I guess most people are starting to hear about these guys: Linkage
Having to wait four months for rescue, stuck in a mine accident.
Kinda makes our trials and tribulations with EVE pale in comparison.
the s*** those guys would talk about after a while...

This is horrible but sort of funny at the same. Months in a dark hole with only a bunch of stinking, increasingly mentally strained miners for company. They should lower a few cameras down there and make a reality show about it. Part of the profits could go to the families of the victims.

If the miners were agreeable to it, that would be a fantastic idea.

It's only one guy masquerading as the whole lot, he's done the math, he knows they'd not build that tunnel for a single guy but make some halfassed attempt and then write him off as dead, so he decided to keep the others alive too to put some emphasis to his 'get me the **** out of here!' note.

I would so watch that show.

Amazing end of series plot twist already figured out.
Miners discover amazing alien artifact, Smart Miner realizes the profits that can be made and kills off everyone else, Smart Miner RPs mental illness, gets pulled out first and collapses the mine behind him.

At least they are alive, unlike those poor guys in West Virgina.
and the sad thing is both mines likely had the same problem, the company took shortcuts when it came to safety.
Though yes even with safety a mine can still fail of course.
But for coal at least i think the image of imploding shafts is why we have that geographical and environmental horror known as mountain top removal, where they basically blow up a mountain to get at the coal center.(Mr, Owl, how many tons of C4 does it take to get to the center of a mountain?)

Two ****ed up things about this, not sure if it was mentioned in your article, cause I didn't bother to read it.
1. They are NOT telling the miners that it can take up to 4 months to get them out. 30 guys down in a room the size of a studio apartment, if they knew it would be that long, anarchy would have consumed them already.
2. They will more than likely not get paid as the company doesn't have the money and will probably go bankrupt due to this. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

Hope all these guys make it out alive and not too mentally scarred. In the meantime, lets all play an insensitive gave of Guess The Movie Name. I'll go first.

BBC 27/Aug "The men have already been told they may not be rescued until Christmas." Apparently they took the news 'quietly'. They are sending them down prozac though, so that will fix it
I also heard that the mining company could get them out quicker, but it's a trade off between speed and cost. At one point they were even considering the cheapest approach, which could take the best part of a year!
The fat old guy had better start doing some sit ups if he wants to be out by Christmas, or he won't fit through the bicycle wheel sized escape tunnel

Edited by: Akita T on 29/08/2010 13:29:52 First off, these guys are not wishy-washy weak-willed entitlement-focused USofA-ian type of people that panic if you tell them they won't get to see the idiot-box for a month or somesuch. They each probably already spent more than their fair share (better said, more than "a normal share") deep inside the mine on a regular basis before the accident, so they are quite familiar and not very perturbed by otherwise claustrophobic situations. They also most likely know eachother very well already and don't really mind being in such close quarters for a long time, and are almost certainly content as long as survival is relatively certain. Will they go bonkers if they leave them in there for 4 months ? Even with no special assistance (other than assurances they will be eventually extracted), probably not. They were already as good as dead if not found, so 4 months is so much better than "never". Sure, they'll probably get bored as hell and be super-cranky by the time they get out, and some of them might have had developed some mild cases of claustrophobia, but other than that, I seriously don't expect too many problems as long as they get them out roughly when promised.

Will they go bonkers if they leave them in there for 4 months ? Even with no special psychological assistance (other than continued assurances they will be eventually extracted), probably not. They were already as good as dead if not found, so 4 months is so much better than "never". Add to this the fact that they were able to ration their water intake so effectively means they're pretty smart, and might already have known that with them being fo far into the mine that there were collapse scenarios which would make a rescue nearly impossible.
And i read somewhere that they have a couple of kilometers of tunnels for them to exercise in, so they're not 33 guys trapped in an area the size of a studio apartment.
That said, i'll be surprised if all 33 guys make it out alive.

Maybe they'll never be rescued. Then maybe they'll build their own civilization and become like those people in The Hills Have Eyes. Then maybe they'll eat a bunch of people. That would make a much better movie.

In another proud Hollywood tradition and in accordance with rule 34, there will also be a **** version made from this event. In that movie the trapped miners survive the months of hard mental struggle by the abundant supply of lube and glow in the dark condoms the rescuers manage to provide them with.
