Originally by: Chribba EVE-Offline reports it as up, but a bit slow.
Is EVE-Offline just running a ping? I can trace/ping 87.237.39.199 but looking at a trace when opening a connection from any of the common tools such as EVEmon it looks loke connections are being reset every time. Looks like the duct tape binding the network to the application is in need of a refresh?
EVE Gate seems ticketyboo but any third party API tools seem to be unworthy of a response when they query the API. I guess EVE Gate does not use the same API?
To CCP: Do we get an update any time soon(tm)?

Doesn't work for me either.
Which sucks cause I stupidly deleted my account in Evemon cause I wanted to switch from limited to full api.

The problem is not that you can not reach it. The problem is that the API is actively refusing the connection.
Did someone applied a IP block maybe? Or miss clicked the option: Grant access ---> to Denied access? "By default, all computers will be Denied access except the following"

No it checks the API for info and depending on that reply (or if it's unable to connect at all).

Its actually selectively refusing service to some connections Moreover its persistent so some IP ranges get blocked and others not. Had same problem yesterday. Forcibly downed my DSL and forced a different local address assignment when I restarted the DSL modem. No more problem On other hand from work still its broken.
so from work I get rejected connection: curl -v http://api.eve-online.com * About to connect() to api.eve-online.com port 80 (#0) * Trying 87.237.39.199... Connection refused * couldn't connect to host * Closing connection #0 curl: (7) couldn't connect to host
From home & buddies shell in continental America: curl -v http://api.eve-online.com * About to connect() to api.eve-online.com port 80 (#0) * Trying 87.237.39.199... connected * Connected to api.eve-online.com (87.237.39.199) port 80 (#0) > GET / HTTP/1.1 > User-Agent: curl/7.16.3 (i386-portbld-freebsd6.0) libcurl/7.16.3 OpenSSL/0.9.8g zlib/1.2.2 > Host: api.eve-online.com > Accept: */* > * Pre readwrite setting chunky header values to default < HTTP/1.1 302 Found < Cache-Control: private < Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8 < Location: http://myeve.eve-online.com/api/doc/default.asp < Server: Microsoft-IIS/7.0 < X-AspNet-Version: 2.0.50727 < X-Powered-By: ASP.NET < Date: Thu, 26 Aug 2010 08:22:28 GMT < Content-Length: 164 < <html><head><title>Object moved</title></head><body> <h2>Object moved to <a href="https://eve-search.com/externalLink.asp?l=http%3A%2F%2Fmyeve%2Eeve%2Donline%2Ecom%2Fapi%2Fdoc%2Fdefault%2Easp">here</a>.</h2> </body></html> * Connection #0 to host api.eve-online.com left intact * Closing connection #0
This is all happening within seconds of each other (both good and failed connections) and its repeatable for me (good stays good.. failed is failed never succeeds if retried)
TL;DR: CCP get your server/network admin to figure out why API is not open to all IP addresses attempting access.

@Taji Kann
Confirming.
I could get to work the API from my workplace, however it's still down from home.
So it look's like they put there some kind of IP blocking on the firewall. I can guess that they tried to block one or more IP, however they mistyped the subnet mask. So instead of a 255.255.255.255 they managed a 255.255.0.0 or similar..

All I did was notify operations that selective connection attempts were being refused. I believe they are still looking into the nooks and crannies.
Well that's not all, I also did my best to amend some processes so the next time this happen we wont be looking at 24 hours of fubar.
As a side note I'd like to thank you for your patience with this. The API is a live production service and should obviously be treated as such by us. I know the perception is that we've treated the API with less priority than our other services and I aim to change that now that Explorer has convinced me to take over ownership of the project and I've got CCP Stillman at my side as QA with 3rd party API experience.

Thanks for the update, Prism X.
Yeah, bad coincidence, methinks. Announcing the API changes over in Tech Lab (blocking "unhealthy" API requests) followed by a technical glitch which could be interpreted as IPs have been blocked already.
In the future, just give as an ahead notification that you're working on the API servers and that they might be unresponsive for <time frame>. -- EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager |
