This is a weird question, but if you're left with nothing, then you can just go to a station and get a rookie ship...
But if literally all you have is a rookie ship and zero isk and no one to help you, and you don't want to buy a GTC, what options do you have for how to make it back into your first ship to start grinding L1s or whatever?
I guess you could mine, but I'm curious if you could do missions at L1 difficulty with a starter rookie ship.
Maybe go to another race and do the tutorial or something? Can you redo the tutorial? I'm just looking for ideas here.
Thanks!

Yeah career agents and level ones are the way to go. They can be done with nothing but a noobship with two civilian guns. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

You should never risk things you can't afford to lose, so you shouldn't ever end up in such situations. At the minimum this means you should have a good source of income, that you can always rely on when everything else is lost. Even that free rookie ship is enough, but a somewhat inefficient way to do it.
I know newbies get a lot of free ships and crap now from the tutorials, but that wasn't always the case and people managed just fine. If you really wanted to, you could make another character, do the tutorials with it and transfer the stuff and ISK to you main character. However, with the experience you and your chracter have gained, it shouldn't take long to get back on your feet even in the worst of cases. How you mentally handle the loss can be a bigger obstacle in getting back on your feet.

Then there is the option of begging for money... I know it is not the 'honorable' way, and that some people are not able to stoop to that level, but it actually can work. If you are creative about it and have good people skills you should be able to get at the very least a free frigate which can run lv1 missions.
Heck, if that is too low for you, you could just go over to the recruitment channel and look for a corp that helps new players out, and in the interview tell them your situation, my bet is that 9 out of 10 times you will get a free ship and some ISK out of it, and who knows, you may even make a friend or 2! Which takes me to my next point..
If you have been playing for any length of time, you should be in a corp by now and if you somehow managed to get totally wiped out, any corp worth its salt should have at least a couple members who are willing to help out a corp member who is down on their luck. --------------------------------------------

Tutorial agents - There's a set of them in all the starter systems. Hit them up for a few missions and you'll get some decent gear to work with.
Belt ratting - In highsec, the rats are pretty easy to kill with even civ guns in a noobship. Loot modules and build up a motley stash.
Mining - Yeah, eventually you'll get a nest egg built back up but... go shoot something
Level 1 agents - Shoot things or haul things. EVE-Survival.org to figure out if taking this mission is such a good idea with your skills/gear. (Mining agents do exist. See above.)
Also, as an extra boost, Rookie Ships cost 0 ISK to repair, no matter how damaged. NOTE: Said Rookie Ship must have the majority pf parts attached or in cargo at the time. _______________________________

Soooo many possibilities! Here are a few:
You can: * Mine in a rookie ship to earn some ISK (good). * Rat in a rookie ship to earn some ISK (better). * Create lots of rookie ships to get Tritanium to sell (worst). * Do any tutorials you haven't completed (best).
Then: * Fit a drone and AB to a rookie ship and do level 1 combat missions (I've done this). * Trade.
Then: * Buy a frigate or industrial, and do level 1-4 courier missions (really good). * Buy a mining frigate. * Buy a combat frigate, and fit it, and do level 1 missions. * Buy a scanning frigate, probe launcher, and some combat probes, and recover abandoned drones and sell them. * Buy a scanning frigate, probe launcher and some combat probes and a salvager, and ninja salvage.
Gets easier from there, with even more possibilities.

Yes, you can do the tutorials, and they are available in every region. In most regions all the tutorial agents are in the same station - or at least the same system.

This happened to me in my first few days of eve many moons ago.
I was playing around in lowsec in an incursus if I remember correctly ratting. Of course a bigger fish came along and popped and podded me.
I then got back in my rookie ship and mined veldspar until I could affor a proper cruiser. I then switched to a courier agent and made a little more and soon I was back on my feet.
If you ever get in the same position when starting out, be glad! Once you've come back from nothing, there isn't anything that can keep you down, the experience of clawing your way back up puts metaphorical hairs on your chest.
If you are in this position just now, by all means tell your story to the eager readers, but decline the isk, you'll thank me in the long run.
I suppose this must be my sig. I'll do something cool with it eventually. |

No. Hi Sec Ratting is one of the worst things you could do.
Mining will make vastly more money.
As I said above - 20k (one or two round trips with a rookie ship mining) will get you a mining frigate and a few trips with that will get you something better than the free civilian miners you get from repackaging and assembling your rookie ship.
The thing is - High Sec Ratting is NEVER going to make you any more money no matter how much you improve your equipment. Mining will improve dramatically as you get better stuff.
Even if you don't want to mine ... much ... running missions is a lot better than High Sec Ratting - you get the mission rewards and the rats too.

Troll hell. Do you actually think that one week doing something is going to give you an accurate picture of what it's about? When I first started playing ... coming from a game without NPC's ... the idea of having some NPC telling me what to do - wasn't something I was happy with - so instead of running missions - other than mining - all I did was rat the belts. Then I finally figured out that I wasn't getting anything compared to what I could be getting by running missions - and more importantly wasn't progressing - and I gave in and put up with the snarky comments you get from Agents when you first start out.
Not sure what you mean by DG Spawns. I'm not familiar with that particular term.
Are you talking about some kind of Exploration or just Belt Ratting?
You said Belt Ratting.
Yes - I have on occasion gotten ... like a BPC for a Small Shadow Control Tower - once. Mostly ... you don't get anything like that. Mostly ... you hardly get anything at all.
So - yes - if they were phenomenally lucky - they might get something but on average - they won't.
I don't know how much belt ratting you've done - but I've done quite a bit - and good drops from Hi Sec belt rats are few and far between. Congratulations on actually getting something good.
And - another thing - you didn't say to use a Destroyer to do this. One of the problems I didn't mention - is that if you're using a Rookie Ship - as you first said - then such as .5 belt rats have a good chance of blowing it up (not that that in and of itself matters) which would mean you weren't blowing them up. Now ... I've put a 150mm Rail on a Rookie ship and ratted some of the lower Hi Sec Security Levels ... but it wasn't easy - or quick. Killing Destroyers or a trio of level 3 frigates with a single weapon takes some time, especially if you have to warp out and repair. AND - that was back when Civilian Afterburners were plentiful and cheap - so you could put an AB on a Rookie ship and kite the rats.
Where ratting is really successful - is down in 0.0 - where you've got nice fat battleship rats that in and of themselves pay a nice bounty. Hi Sec rats - at best destroyers in .5 - don't pay squat.
Think back on that week you spent ratting .5 systems - other than the really good drops - what did you get on average? 'Cause that's what most people get.
And ... OBTW ... your Character's sig is funny ... but the multi colors and the small text make it a little hard to read.
I liked the ones about the "Minmatar Wreck" and the Ammo.

It's good income for a starter and you'll learn a lot things in the process.

Depends on your skills. With a 5xAC, 2xSalvagers, 1xTractor Thrasher, I used to make about 2-3 million per hour ratting in a 0.5 system. Of course, I was also salvaging everyone else's wrecks as well (some people don't like this, lol).

Everything depends on your skills and luck.
How many rats spawn, how many other people are in there killing them, whether or not they are salvaging them ...
*shrug*
The thing is - as I said - you're going to hit an average with High Sec Belt ratting that - no matter how much you improve your equipment - isn't going to go up. Yes - you may hit the odd good haul - but mostly it isn't that good.
I've ratted .5 systems and I sure as hell didn't get any 2-3 million out of it - and yes - that included salvaging all the wrecks the Hulks mining those belts didn't care about, though I left their loot. I've used Catalysts, Cormorants, Thrashers and Coercers. None got me 2-3 mill per hour.
But you always hear that. Someone claiming they got all kinds of money out of something ... when ... what they're claiming ... if it even happened ... was really a one time deal they remember vaguely. They forget about all the times they warped into a belt and found - nothing. The other thing they don't factor in - is the time they spent actually recovering the value of all the loot and salvage they got, so that whatever amount of time they may have spent acquiring that stuff ... actually hauling it to a trade hub and getting paid for it (or whatever it was reprocessed into) took a bit longer.
Another factor in all this - is that there aren't that many .5 systems. So - you've got to find one, travel over there, rat it - and then go back to wherever your base is or where you're selling your loot.
I've gone round and round in systems with 8 to 10 belts, jumped over to another system and gone through it's belts, come back to the system I started in and gone through that again, going back and forth - and I usually really didn't have anything to show for it - compared to what I could have made mining or running missions - but especially mining AND running missions.
I do however remember countless jumps into empty belts where all I could do was jump again to the next one looking for some rats to pop. I spent a lot more time jumping into empty belts than I did popping rats.
One thing about the belts is - there are a hell of a lot more asteroids out there than there are rats - and each one of them is worth more than most of the rats you'll see. Of course ... you can also mine .5 belts and just kill whatever rats come along with your drones. Get into an Osprey or a Vexor - which isn't that hard to do - and you can mine a good bit and kill rats too.
But making loads of money ratting in high sec? No. I've not seen it - and despite testimonials to how great it can be - I do not believe that is what the average player will experience. It sure as hell isn't what I experienced.
If any one doesn't believe me - *shrug* - try it and good luck to you.

I'd get a noobship, leave station in pod and go to another in system for the second ship, fly it back to the first station, fit both miners to the same ship and head to the nearest belt to mine whatever is around (eg veld should fit 2,000 units into a small hold)
After getting a full hold, i should be able to afford something (module/ship) which could then be used for more productive means (alter to player choice).
Continue this chain until you are back on your feet.

Or, you know, repackage and assemble the noobship, getting both two guns (to do level one missions) and two miners (to do something with). Then put which fits your fancy onto the noobship and get on with things.

A few things ...
1) If you want to go steal ore - then fine - go do that. However - you are going to have to find someone with a jet can to do it. By the time you do that - you could easily have mined as much as you can carry in your rookie ship. So you can flip them. So - they can flip you back - what are you going to be doing to them in a rookie ship? By the time you haul your stolen ore back to the station and come back to your can - he will have flipped it back - and if you are lucky - you'll get one more rookie ship full of ore before he shows up in his industrial and just takes it all.
2) Yes - you can repackage and then reassemble your rookie ship as many times as you want - each time you repackage it - it will put the civilian miner and weapon into your items hangar - then when you assemble it again - it will assemble with brand new modules which will be added to the modules you already have in your items hangar if you repackage it again. CCP did this so that there would NEVER be a time when no matter what you did - that you couldn't have a miner and a weapon to start over with. You can sell those civilian miners (though not the weapons) on the market but you won't get much for them. For my own amusement - not because I was going to make any money at it - I have on occasion collected several dozen rookie ships of various types, selected them all, repackaged them all, then assembled them all - repeatedly - until I had several hundred Civilian Miners. I even asked if this was considered an Exploit before I did it and they said no. Essentially no one is going to make enough money doing this to matter. At one time - I was able to sell the rookie weapons on the market but then that changed. You can't sell the weapons or reprocess them or do anything but fit them to a ship or trash them - though you might be able to sell them via contracts ... I just can't imagine who would buy several hundred rookie weapons. Those civilian miners did all eventually sell though - as a lot of people don't know that you can just make them yourself by repackaging and then assembling rookie ships.
3) You can fit two rookie weapons on a rookie ship.
4) You can NOT fit two civilian miners on a rookie ship - it doesn't have the PG/CPU. They just won't fit.
5) As I said before - what you can do - is take the ore you get from one or two mine and return trips and sell it for 20k - then use that to buy a Mining Frigate - and put the two Civilian Miners on that.
6) The REAL weapon of a Rookie ship - is it's drone. If you are brand new - get yourself Drones I and Scout Drones I and you've got a drone in a few minutes of training (once you buy one of course). Here - the Gallente have a real advantage in having two drones. On several occasions, being bored and wanting something silly to do for a few minutes - I've put a single 150mm, a salvager, a Civilian Afterburner (I still have some of those laying around) and an overdrive injector on a Velator - given it two drones and gone ratting in it. It is the drones that do all the killing. I've recently killed destroyers in that ship and ... again ... it was the drones doing most of the damage. I have also run missions in that ship ... but ... it takes frakking forever ... so ... I don't do that very often.
7) Why do I go ratting still when it doesn't make much money? Because sometimes I still want to play for a few more minutes - but don't want to start a mission that might take longer than that - and I'm tired of mining for the moment. That and it is amusing to accomplish anything in a rookie ship. Any longer than a few minutes ... and killing things in a rookie ship becomes work ... thus instantly losing it's amusement value - and I go ahead and quit for the day.

as long as u have a rookie ship u can still make isk
mine veld in 1.0 to get enough isk to buy a frigate or even a destroyer or even a cruiser +fittings then grind l1/l2 until u can afford a bc + fittings
then grind l3's /rat in 0.0 until u can afford a t2 cruiser or a bs + fittings.

Regarding high-sec belt ratting:
I used to do it in Amarr space back in my newbie days before I moved into nullsec. The main profit was from selling the criminal tags the NPCs dropped, and looking at the prices on EVE-Central the prices of them still seem to be healthy. The tags dropped by high-end NPCs are pretty worthless as people farm those NPCs in missions and nullsec by the bucketload, but the ones dropped by the NPCs you see in high-sec belts can be worth several million ISK apiece. The second significant source of income was salvage, the usefulness of which depends very heavily on the rats' faction. Of the factions I'm familiar with, Sansha and Blood drop good salvage, and Guristas salvage is pretty worthless. I don't recall the loot dropped by the rats being of much value, and the bounties are of course tiny.
You won't get rich belt-ratting in hi-sec (barring extreme luck...) but it did provide me the ISK to get into a cruiser and get belt-ratting with corpmates in nullsec. I wouldn't do it in a noobship though... When starting from absolute scratch, better to do the tutorial agents and maybe the Epic Arc, if you haven't done that already, first... You want to ditch your noobship as soon as you can afford anything better.
