The "your neighborhood PC store" brand, or the "I never heard of these guys" brand, or even "we're clearing out inventory" brand types. Varies from location to location and month of the year.
Just watch out for the shoddy or worse refurbished parts in those bargain basement computers. I can't tell you how many of my friends had their no-name desktops/laptops break because of cheap and shoddy power supplies and other substandard quality parts.
Bottom line, build it yourself if you can as its the only way to ensure quality while staying on the cheap. PRAISE THE SCOTTISH FOLD!!

On the off chance that this is not a troll, go for the Alienware, as you appear to be a perfect match for it. PRAISE THE SCOTTISH FOLD!!

Don't you find it is more a question of taste?
I am perfectly happy with my Nvidia purchases I have had in the past with all the regular problems pertaining to graphic cards burning up etc.
I would say go for the performance you are looking for and get it as cheaply ays possible. Forget about brands etc unless you wish to buy it to look cool and you don't care about the price.
A few years it go it might have been taste, but these days pound for pound ATI's offerings are quite better than Nvidia for a lower price. And I say this as former Nvidia fanboy.
Same goes for Intel processors vs. AMD, unless you are aiming for the absolute high end (i7's) then AMD provides far more value in many instances.

All the same, just doesn't cost as much as big names right?
Murphy's Law would state that your card would break after your store's return period is over. And if you bought from a fly by night company, you are probably SOL if their support is flaky. PRAISE THE SCOTTISH FOLD!!
