1) Any PC made in 2007 or later can run EVE pretty well. 2) For $2000 you can get 4 pc's that run EVE flawlessly. 3) Never, ever get Alienware if you're serious about gaming.
You pay 25% extra just for the name. That's not a joke, that's a fact. You can get a better PC for less if you get the seperate pieces. Most stores will even assemble it for you for a small price and you're still cheaper off!

like where?
im also looking at origins, but after comparing like 20 different laptops the prices arent that unreasonable.
i mean yea it will get stuk in the past very soon, as do all computers and most technology...
but really im looking for some guidance into the right direction.
have you seen the eon15 from originpc.com? how does that look?
someone reffered me to cyber power pc but that website hruts my eyes.
i just want a laptop that will be able to run eve and its expansions coming up for a couple years while being able to play some other games also.
i like the m11x for portability and size reasons, and i like the eon15 for the power/price but a similar alienware is around the same ballpark price.
can u show me where i can get cheaper, more pwoer for less? _______________________ Hottest Character Ever. |

Good god just build your own, for 2000$ i can get a quad core a 5770 video car, 2TB hardrive, a great motherboard and a 34-42 inch monitor. and still have enough to buy beer and pizza to have a nice gaming night with you're new toy.

Thankfully, the box the pizza comes in is just the right size to fit all the junk your sticking in that LAPTOP.

spending up to $2000 on a laptop sounds abit crazy to me.
if your spending that much, you should get a laptop and a desktop, and even then both will probably be good enough to run something like crysis 2

I don't know, what were the exact specs and what were the prices for the machines you were looking at ? Without knowing that... how about...

Origin; Pay 300 bucks for the "specialist in building gaming rigs" while an MSI/Acer/HP high end is just as sufficient and probably way cheaper. All other brands can get pixel guarantee aswell but usually through the shop that sells it for an additional small cost. Buy a normal laptop instead of the screamers and buy some extra games/gtc's with the money you have left.
BTW: 5770 is (budget) bang for buck card for desktops and laptops. Good card though especially in Xfire where it usually outperforms a single 5850 in games that support dual cards. Real performance is carried in from 5850 and 5870 though mobility cards will always be inferior to desktop cards due to heat issues.

Edited by: Freyya on 26/08/2010 10:51:04 See my updated post and some questions for yourself to answer on the lap/desktop;
Are you going to go to lanparties? Are you actually going to sit on the couch with the laptop @ hand playing games while your crotch is burning away? (prolongued heat exposure can make you unfruitfull if male) Are you actually going to play games when there's no power outlet nearby? Are you actually going to move the pc/laptop so much portability is really an issue? Do I really want to spend 1500+ bucks on a laptop while the same money will buy me a rig twice as powerfull (laptops are prenerfed for battery and heat issues) with an almost twice the size screen or perhaps 2 20" monitors?
Answer those and you have your answer ___________

well you do have me moving into the direction now of a desktop.
a lot more so in fact.
I don't know if my college allows us to bring laptops in but if so that why I would like a m11x for portability reasons while still being able to play eve.
but after looking at all the stuff i can get from newegg and cyberpowerpc the desktop will be much more powerful.
Do you think the cyberpower pcs would be alright? I'm looking at this one currently it has... Intel Core i7-950 CPU 6GB DDR3/1600MHz Memory NVIDIA GTX465 1GB Video GigaByte X58 USB3 & SATA III MB 1TB SATA III 7200 RPM HD 24X DVD+-R/+-RW Drive Apevia X-Dreamer 3 Case
for 1200 dollars, no monitor and I think no OS so it would be about 1500 dollars all together.
but you see im not really planning on purchasing this for 4 months from now so im thinking this stuff will be even cheaper by then.
but the big concern is that im in South Korea at the moment and I have to run my american pronged **** from a converter and dont know how safe that is for the desktop PSU's, while this laptop and i would assume most convert to it quite well.
also the grounds here are ****. blah blah. i dunno im so confused lol.
tl;dr : thanks for everything

That system is peachy. I personally am more of an ATi fanboy but nVidia works aswell. Since you'll be looking @ this 4 months from now there will most likely be a new ATi card release and depending on their availability and prices that might be interesting. Intel will probably introduce a new processor family by then as might AMD. Anyways, shelf your pc project for 4 months and look at it when you're ready to buy 1. Also, will you be using the PC in Korea or America? Don't know if there are differences in power outlets and volt output but yeah that's something to look at when buying stuff like that. ___________

most likely korea, i plan on getting my degree here atleast and i seem to be moving up at my job.
the prongs here are weird and rounded and its all 220volt instead of 110v like america.
:) i dont know if thats beneficial or not, but the transformer i use to downgrade to 110volt doesnt seem to actually use the korean ground although the converter itself has grounds for its two plugs.

Edited by: Freyya on 26/08/2010 12:46:06 Well Korean prongs sound the same as European then as it's also 220V here. European plug
Korean plugs generally seem to be the same though there are some other types aswell. Also if you're going to be wanting to use a laptop for college you might considder a netbook. Small factor basic laptops...or perhaps used laptops are a nice way to look. Play eve fullscale @ home and install the weak graphics version on the lappy to change skills/talk while @ college. ___________

Jesus Christ. NEVER BUY PREBUILT/BRANDED COMPUTERS
You waste 25% of your money on the name/brand. Buy the parts seperately, put it together yourself. And before you go "But i'm ******ed and don't know how" I'm sure you know someone with at least a little computer knowledge who can do it.
Honestly, you would waste your money on junk you don't need. Also get a desktop, it's upgradeable

Depends on the brand. If "Alienware" or similar, you have a point. However, other brands barely add a little over the component cost, and in some rare cases, you might actually get the whole machine cheaper than the individual components.

Just watch out for the shoddy or worse refurbished parts in those bargain basement computers. I can't tell you how many of my friends had their no-name desktops/laptops break because of cheap and shoddy power supplies and other substandard quality parts.
Bottom line, build it yourself if you can as its the only way to ensure quality while staying on the cheap. PRAISE THE SCOTTISH FOLD!!

Don't you find it is more a question of taste?
I am perfectly happy with my Nvidia purchases I have had in the past with all the regular problems pertaining to graphic cards burning up etc.
I would say go for the performance you are looking for and get it as cheaply ays possible. Forget about brands etc unless you wish to buy it to look cool and you don't care about the price.
I am personally looking towards a laptop around 500Ç at christmas that can run eve on lowered settings (textures max but everything else at min) and it seems to be about right for what I want. Atm it is a toss up between the hd 5470 or g210 or g310, regardless I know it can do what I want and what to expect and that is the main thing.
