They do not play well with EVE, at all.
Flickering cursor. Insane FPS drops. Client freezes.
Confirmed with other players who have updated to them. All other games work perfectly. If you want to play EVE, I suggest sticking with the 10.7's for now. ---

IDD. I was going to mention the fact that at least ATI driver's don't burn the card, but someone would just sprout more ANTI-THIS and ANTI-THAT crap :P. ---

Edited by: Grez on 26/08/2010 21:32:42 Two systems.
Both Win7 x64.
4870 and 5850 have same issue. Another player has the same problem in the Issues & Workaround forum, as do three of my friends (all Win7 x64, varied ATI cards).
Modded my 4870 to use lower 2D clocks when not running a 3D application via ATI Tray Tools. System with the 5870 doesn't have ATT, so it's not ATT causing it. Disabled ATI Overdrive on my 4870, no go there.
The errors only happen when moving the mouse.
Used the ATI update all through 9.11 to 10.8, never had an issue with the update - it's not that.
No other games have issues, just EVE. ---

Edited by: Grez on 26/08/2010 22:01:52 I know what I'm doing ;).
Updating drivers has worked flawlessly for me. I just did a clean remove via registry, and uninstalling them and forcing Windows to ask me what to install before it invokes it's useless Microsoft drivers. Still issues (and I removed the old files, before anyone asks). So it's not an issue with the driver update, move on.
Also, nothing to do with AI. Standard, Enhanced and Off all do nothing. All of the settings do nothing at all, meaning it's most likely to do with the way the driver interacts with EVE itself, rather than an actual setting being at fault. ---

This happened to supcom a while back on an nvidia release. Some players would get freaky lod issues with the strategic zoom and others would get crashes or slow fraps. And since supcom was the only game it effected this way it took till the next driver release to get it fixed. Luckily the rolling back one patch solved it so ranked play continued as normal.
Meh. You should try an ATI card with Mount & Blade. Oh the fun ..
Sometimes a company will pick to go with a certain vendor path. Mount & Blade just happens to be NVIDIA. Back in 2004, VALVe went with ATI when producing Half-Life 2, and royally SUCKED for anyone with an NVIDIA card back then. It's just how the industry works, a lot of the time ATI have to work around a lot of issues due to NVIDIA having the cash to splash out and work with developers and lock out other vendors.
You take any game created specifically for ATI cards and it has the same issues for NVIDIA. Yay industry! ---

Had they don't so they'd have known that no driver is fully uninstalled. But I'm assuming that's too much to ask for those who'd rather blame nVidia or AMD rather than their own stupidity for user made mistakes (I have both brands but prefer AMD's drivers, as they're much better).
OP has given no information on which video card he uses and fails pretty hard at trolling. However, I am going to download the 10.8 drivers and install them myself to test.
Edit: a quick read reveals that OP definitely doesn't have a 58xx card, because that's what the 10.8's are for. Apparently the .ini file hints at the upcoming 6xxx's and could be the first beta driver for them. I recommend everyone with a 4xxx or even 5700 to stick to the 10.5a ones or one that's stable, if you hadn't figured it out for yourself already.
Wow, could you fail much harder? Already stated what cards I use, and the relevant info, including pictures... Funny looking 5850 shaped card with cooler in my case. Guess I must be dreaming? Just... WOW. Stupidity at its finest. ---

My system with a 5850 stopped doing it this morning, not sure why (system wasn't even rebooted since I use it to BOINC). System with 4870 still doing it. ---

It's the multiple monitors that are causing it. Disable the secondary one and it'll work perfectly. ---

FYI, this is the only major issue I've had with ATI drivers in the last year and a half, maybe even two years. Not sure where all this rubbish ATI driver support crap comes from. Especially since NVidia killed their cards not too long ago with a driver update, and then broke PhysX support on a lot of their cards, and then they broke a ton of OpenGL extensions...
Nowadays, both parties have drivers in the same quality margin. ---

10.9's are shown to be wicked. Fixed a few UVD clock issues, and boosted performance in quite a few games. Fixed EVE issues for me. ---

Originally by: Larofeticus I started having similar problems yesterday.
First time I started up the screen was aligned wrong; upper left corner in the middle of the monitor with all the rest cut off and black. Logged out of windows and back and it was ok. Some minutes later the screen got all jumbled up and corrupted; rebooted and it seemed ok.
For the rest of the evening playing eve: Screen freezes yet sound keeps playing. Sometimes screen flickers black and it recovers in a few seconds. Sometimes I ctr+alt+del out and come back and it's recovered. Sometimes it stays frozen and I have to hard reboot. Once I got a full blown blue screen.
I hadn't changed anything the day before, but then i remembered a little windows update popup when I shut it off that morning; so my current theory is that I got the bad drivers that way. I'm gonna try 10.9 when I get home, and if that doesn't work i'll try some of the older version.
What options are there for driver cleaners? I found one that costs $10.
And windows update is dead to me now. Begone.
You don't need a driver cleaner with ATI and Windows 7. NVIDIA and other manufacturers aren't able to make their cards enter limbo temporarily whilst the OS switches drivers - ATI's are. All you need to do is run the "Upgrade" or "Install" option when it appears, the package will tell the card to enter limbo temporarily (your screen will go black), and the new driver will be registered. After that, the older driver is of no use, and isn't referenced again (Windows 7 will make a back-up for you if you want to rollback anyway).
So, all you have to do - download driver, install, leave it. Easy.
Don't believe me? Delete your old driver folder, and Windows 7 won't complain about a thing (cos it's not using them anymore). ---
