Originally by: Aurum Bellator It seems that without a 'natural' way for items to wear out, the economy will eventually become saturated in every item which will inevitably cause permanent deflation.
That would be true if ships didn't get destroyed, ammo used, drones lost, and so on.
Quote: The equilibrium will eventually be reached when every item in the game is worth its recycle price; at that point, manufacturing will be completely unprofitable and obsolete.
This is a logical consequence of a failed premise: if your hypothesis was good, then this would follow logically. Only, it isn't.
Quote: With wear-out, you could implement a specialized skill under industry, "refurbishing" which would bring the item back to its like-new state. The idea would be, once you 'equip' a module or 'use' any item, you would not be able to re-sell it on the market without it being refurbished. The more an item wears with use (100% . . . 1%) the less it will yield when recycled, and the costlier it will be to refurbish. If it hits 0%, it would permanently break and be worth scrap.
This would require far too much micromanagement on the part of people who are not necessarily interested in Sci & Ind, and would make 0.0 and WH life hell. Sure it would increase the economy, but it would be a major pain for combat-oriented types. Also, what would the cost of refurbishing be? On a side note, how many faction/officer/deadspace items would there be, if they risked to break? And what about items on the markets waiting to sell, do those wear out as well?
Quote: Obviously, minerals and other base materials wouldn't wear-out.
Sounds like a pretty biased point of view now, doesn't it? ;)
Quote: Wouldn't something like this be very stimulative of the Eve economy in general? Wouldn't it be a good thing to implement for science & industry?
I think not. Yes, it would stimulate some markets that are pretty much dead-ends, but it would also cause a sink in available iskies that will only end up reducing the propension to PvP, which in turn will make our sales lower. Also, refurbishers would become very rich very fast.
Nice idea in theory but I think it can hardly be applied in EVE without messing it up for good :p
