Paying ransom is just funding the pirates' equipment and ships.
Oh and don't tell ppl to use warp cores...as if enough ppl don't ride with lows full of warp core stabs already
Actually, all that does is discourage us from even bothering to ask for a ransom. Usually I just skip to the "blowing you to pieces" part nowadays.

Too bad for piracy, but pirates have either disappeared, or gone very rare, so you can't trust anyone anymore.
True pirates should clean Eve from vulgar PKs if they want to claim back some roleplaying credit

Pirates most likely don't know the value of your ship, modules, implants, and clone, so they'll probably ask for far more (or less, if you're lucky) than those things are worth. If an offer is made, you might as well consider its one-time financial feasibility, and then compare that to how many times you plan to be passing through their system.
If they aren't willing to make ransoms an equitable venture to spare your life, you might as well allow them to blow you up, and then laugh when you never come around again.
I'd probably pay a reasonable toll each time I pass through a system, if it were a trade route I needed to use regularly, but exorbitant fees will just compel the smart player to find somewhere else to go.

Oh so funny, and yet oh so true......
Good run Morph, very well said indeed. As for Masta Killa, or whatever that wannabe's name is, just because u got gate ganked, dont go whining. I personally think that if someone can take out a battleship at a gate, while tanking them, and the sentries, they must have some skills. Being the n00b I am, I just go for the haulers Vin Diesel claims he has never hailed a taxi. He just runs up to them at stop lights, opens the door, shoves the current passenger over, and tells the cab driver what his new destination is. |

This is one of the biggest fallacies there are about pirating. Ransom refusal won't discourage pirates from pirating. It will only discourage them from asking for ransom, in which case, they take the "*****erjack approach," i.e. popping your ship and looking for the prize. --------------

An addition. More of a general rule:
Don't forget to update your clone/clone location. It sucks to have to make a sudden trip when you weren't expecting to.

MrMorph...very well written Manuel.
Keep in mind though that some pirates dont want/ or need isk. I dont ransom anymore nor have for a long while. Most pirates in EvE. That are well known or whatever. Have other sources of income. We have carebear alts that mine or alts that steal/scam :p
Overall my input would be..try to be nice as possible. I have a few carebears that I let mine in areas that I have ran into but because they where cool and laid back about what was going down I didnt kill them but gave them rights to mine all the good ore that is around. In return ..when new miners come around..they let me know and I go and clean it up.
Good job MrMorph..have to read more topics that you come up with when you bored.

12.) A pirate who fails to kill your bestower in a 0.0 belt calls you a WHINER, because you have 1 more WCS than he/she can scramble.
