Undoubtedly many people know exactly what alliance I will be speaking of. However, I am looking for feedback on what I did wrong, if anything. I know I did, but I want the opinions of others (without the trolling, but I'm not naive enough to believe that's gonna' happen on forums ;P) on what they think. Keep in mind, this is a lot of text and I'm trying to give the Cliff Notes version.
Our alliance is a rather large alliance. It mainly consists of miners and industrialists, and for the most part doesn't focus on the PvP aspect of the game. It's a "care bear" alliance, with a select few living in low sec, making kills off of unsuspecting care bears that stumble into the low sec.
About two weeks ago, we were war decced by a mercenary corporation. I had recently joined the alliance (specifically, a corporation in said alliance that had posted they were looking for PvP pilots), and was excited to be part of the war. Well, I was excited after I was podded by the war targets...I didn't know we were in a war. Meh, whatever. I figured it would be fun to PvP in high sec.
The war didn't do too well. In fact, we were handed our asses time and time again. For the most part, they stuck in a gang and found us while we missioned by using neutral alts. They'd stick to a sensor-boosted stiletto, recon ships and/or battleships. They'd gank, kill, pod. It was embarassing for most of our people.
One of the CEOs (CEO 2) in the alliance was telling everyone to stay docked up an not engage. HE didn't want to "Draw the war out longer then it had to be". My corporation CEO said "Eff that, we fight."
We decided to fight. Then came a letter, informing us that the war target leader had a conversation with one of the CEOs (CEO 1 from now on) in the alliance and passed along to us that he was looking to destroy the alliance. He said that CEO 1 was "unhappy" with the majority of the alliance and wanted it to either disband, or the people he didn't like to leave. I was the first one to defend the CEO 1 in a reply. When others would say that CEO 1 was bad, I'd defend him in alliance chat or wherever. However, not long after CEO 1 got mercs for the alliance, not bothering to consult with the rest of the alliance. One large battle ensued, and we ended up killing two battleships and a pod. It would have been fur battleships, but the war targets (who had talked a lot of crap) decided to dock up when things got nasty.
Come yesterday, we see the war was retracted. The war targets had formed an alliance, so that we would be forced to pay more, because the mercs would be required to pay more to dec the alliance. At that point I said enough was enough and went around looking for mercs of my own. I was going to talk to people in Noir and 0rphanage, but the first person I talked to was the contract officer of a merc corporation. While going over everything, he happened to ask if the CEO from before had finally found someone to dec the alliance.
I sat there, stunned. Here was a friend of mine, confirming in part what had been said in the letter not a week before. At that point I stopped and switched to alliance chat. I posted some of the details and then asked one simple question: "Is this true?"
Instead of a definitive "no", the immediate response was to permaban me from the alliance teamspeak (run by the corporation the "enemy" CEO), as well as instantly putting an intra-alliance bounty on my head. I'm cool with it, I asked a simple question and got that. From experience, when someone becomes overly defensive like that it's a dead giveaway.
So, I pieced together some things. I was looking at it relatively rationally. I came across the following... (continued with next post) First to fight for right and freedom, And to keep our honor clean!

1.) The first letter explained that CEO 1 had been talking with mercenary corporations like Noir and 0rphanage in order to "orchestrate [our] downfall" because he felt that several corporations were not up to scratch. He wanted the alliance to either dissolve or those corporations to leave the alliance. After this letter goes out to the alliance, CEO 1 purchases a group of mercenaries to fight for us. At the time several of us were against this, as we hadn't been involved with the planning or decision on the matter, and we wanted to fight our own war.
2.) The war targets offer us a cease to all hostilities if we pay a ransom. The majority are aginst it. CEO 1 remains mum on the issue. In fact, CEO 1 and the majority of his corporation never get involved with the war.
3.) Talking to my friend, he lets loose with that knowledge. Armed with it, I ask my question in alliance chat and am met with instant hostility, to include a permaban from alliance TeamSpeak and an intra-alliance bounty on my head. CEO 1 pays the ransom that the war targets demanded of us.
The final notation was kind of a giveaway that it was true, at least in the eyes of not just me but two others in my own corporation.
So, I'm interested in wondering if I was wrong in what I did: confronting the CEO publicly. I'm a Marine Corps officer. I watch out for my people, and if someone messes with them, I will make sure they pay. Getting this information was a slap in the face of every decent person in the corporation if it was true, and it seems like it was.
So, how would you all have handled it? First to fight for right and freedom, And to keep our honor clean!

your mistake was joining a carebear alliance, if you want PvP join a PvP corp that is either independent or in a PvP alliance, this kind of political BS is everywhere in eve, but you'll find it less troublesome if the people you fly with aren't schizophrenic.

I figured I was new to PvP, so I would join a group that was looking for people new to PvP. Plus it helped that the people I joined were/are Marines in real life. I felt comfortable talking to them. First to fight for right and freedom, And to keep our honor clean!

rather an interesting tale, actually. not much you can do, except declare a personal one man war and grief the **** out of them. which would be fun to watch, i admit. if you are looking for pvp, join a pvp corp. for some reason carebears flock to drama, most pvpers are p. chill bros, though. ~ |

GOD I'M GLAD I'M IN A NULL SEC ALLIANCE.

I get ya, and I have to say you should follow the advice above and join a decent PvP organisation. Nullsec bods are always recruiting and if you're real hot **** you could always try out to join a highsec merc Alliance, they get alot of action. But you were right to confront the CEO if he was ****ting on your alliance, you can't let people sell you down the river in this game :V

Aiden you will often find most empire corp/alliances are mainly built for the CEO's to get free income off the new memberships and then once they aren't paying out anymore...they will rip them off. You need to find an alliance that you can thrive in and fit in with people like you. From what I got out of your post, you are wanting to learn pvp. I would recommend you join Eve University. They teach pvp and is a good training ground to eventually join a 0.0 alliance. Eve-U is a great group of people that aren't out to screw you over. I personally have never been affiliated with them but know of them and their history, many members in my corp have been in Eve-U and all had a good experience with it. Just a suggestion to possible help you enjoy the game more for what it was designed for. |
