Never venture into 0.0 space. No matter how attractively simple the agent mission may seem, and no matter how harmless a ship you are flying, you will get blown up at a gate.
I experienced my first podding today. It wasn't too much of a setback, as I was piloting an Imicus with mostly scavenged and otherwise inexpensive equipment. I'm certainly thankful that I wasn't carrying any valuable cargo, and I had a more than adequate clone waiting in the Duripant system.
I should congratulate Chode Rizoum on making quick work of my ship and pod. In the future, I'll be mindful to avoid him and any Teddybears I may encounter.
Good hunting to all of you, and thanks again, Chode, for the lesson in better navigational planning.

Although it may seem like a setback, you have taken a big step forward in the game.
You have learned your lesson. You know your place. And you respect the other party involved.
Your attitude is admirable.

You would ransom an imicus. The frigate costs 60k. When the CSPA charge is a significant hit to the net ransom profit, its usually not worth it.
Originally by: Sochin CCP has provided you with the tools you need to avoid crime. You're just too lazy/stupid to use them.

I don't keep my chat window open most of the time, so if he offered a ransom, I wouldn't have seen it.
Of course, I would have let him shoot me anyway. Why would I pay an exorbitant ransom, when my ship, equipment, and clone only come to a grand total of approximately 300-350k ISK? If I don't include the cost of a new clone, that total is greatly diminished.
I lost very little financially, and I gained much in the way of 0.0 insight. I consider it an equitable deal from a business perspective.

ALWAYS - and I mean ALWAYS - keep your local chat open in 0.0.
No wonder you got killed if you aren't even watching who is in local...

Hardin,
I wouldn't have paid him even if he made demands. I will never reward griefing, but I respect that it's a legitimate part of the game. Since I did absolutely nothing to avoid the gate in question, the loss is entirely on my hands.
I'll be more cautious in the future. CCP will eventually nerf pirates out of existence, as all MMOs eventually must do to support people who just want to enjoy the game peacefully. Even UO added a nice safe zone, from which one never has to leave, so people could avoid being harassed.
From now on, I'll be more diligent in my navigational planning, and set more autopilot filters. I had gotten away from the practice when I started operating in relatively deserted sections of space, but now that my laziness has cost me a ship and a clone, I'll get back on top of things.

1. U have ALOT of safe zones.
2. Dont be scared off from 0.0, its alot more exciting than safe space.
0.0 space is for pilots to experience lawlessness, one day u mite be on the other end of the gun. The harmlessness of ur ship means nothing, u mite have had 30k zyd on u, in which case ur imicus would have been worth alot. __
There, i just contributed nothing to your thread

AAAAAAHH. Why must you people make me so mad.
Safe zone = 0.5 and above space. 0.0 = place for player law and freedom.
If you want uber-NPC police holding your hand as you suckle veld stay in safe space.
EVE has bugger all in the way of NPC questing, and it takes a whole month to do every single agent scenario 1000 times. So the only reason to play EVE for more then a month is player created content, which is mainly out in 0.0.
You think people have played this game for over a year just to do agent missions? Its not like they need to get to lvl 60 to do the super awesome dragon raids or the kind of crap you get in other MMO's (FYI I play WoW*). EVE is different from all the other MMO's which are primarily about the PvE content. EVE has about 20 normal agent scenarios (and I am probably being generous). So stop bloody comparing it. If you don't like PvP play bugger off to Everclone number 384.
* And I play on a PvE server. And in EVE I live in empire, for the most part. So don't go calling me a pirate or a griefer. Just realise PvP is far more interesting and compelling then killing computer controlled retards will ever be. --------------------------------------------------

I think everyones gets podded the first time they enter 0.0. Don't let it put you off, Its really not as bad as some of the scare stories put about. The first couple of choke points are the most dangerous, after that its mostly empty.
Next time you go into 0.0 you need to be prepared, get some insta bookmarks, have a trashable alt scout out first. In short you will not survive long in 0.0 without insta-bms.
