I have my first bank on my G-13 dedicated for the top half stuff on your design, the second bank for modules and combat orders, and the third currently for a num pad. I actually use the third bank more often than the second since I do a good amount of trading. I don't use the first bank all that often since I don't usually need to pull up tabs too often. Stuff like lock, set range, orbit, gate, etc. is on my second primary bank. |

Could you also make a special caldari edition of your controller specifically for us, caldari? Because your concept is missing the most important button! |

Been looking around a little, http://www.unifiedremote.com/ seems you can make your own remote(Layout) here..
its seems to be just basic XML coding |

Having actual buttons to press is a more satisfying experience if you ask me. For instance I love a nice mechanical keyboard and don't care much for typing on my ipad.
Maybe I'm just an old-school geek but I love things with lots of buttons, knobs, dials, switches, meters and blinky lights.
My ideal EVE controller would look roughly like this: http://bit.ly/MUm8GD

After a long day at work and doing a lot of thinking on this, the primary goal will be to make something to have in the hands. I too would like something in my hands and on my desk. That being said, stuff like iclone and evetracker can't be the only thing available for EVE players. App devs get on dat ****.
Anyway, I'm continuing to collect resources for everything necessary. Dipstick wanted a mining laser button, whatever the **** that is, and a quit button has been mentioned twice. I'm not entirely convinced that a quit button is needed. It's like requiring a button on your keyboard to close browser windows. We hit that X on the upper right hand corner. At least I do. I play in windowed mode because I stream and full screen produces a flicker on the live video.
So, let's officially throw this up for a simple yay or nay on the Quit button. Are we trying to fit 5 horses in a race stall, or is a quit button very much needed?
Also, if you're very much interested in this project, go ahead and sub to this thread. This race will be a slow and steady one, but updates will continue to come and we'll git er dun. Is your desktop wallpaper ruining your life? -áLet me help you. |

Totally awesome project! I'm behind it 100%
@Sid Hudgens I'm a new school younger geek and I prefer mechanical keyboards too!
I'm more of a hardware kind of guy so if you need any help with anything please hit me up in game Pandora. I'd really love to be a part of this project and will definitl be buying one!
Lastly I too would enjoy a quit button, although preferably somewhere out of the way it with a plastic cap like missile launch buttons (of the 'jump' button on the "drake pilots keyboard"). |

You know we were actually spit balling the idea of a flip-cap launch button for the Self-Destruct Ship command, but there isn't a command for that, and likely for the better because that'd be more of a novelty feature than anything.
Ok, so Cahvus is down for the Quitsies.
Also, I just landed a programmer for the board via local Hackerspace. Thank you again for a great referral to that, whoever you were, too lazy to scroll up and give proper props. Is your desktop wallpaper ruining your life? -áLet me help you. |

I freakin love the flip-cap button idea. It would be worth harassing the devs to adding a self-destruct hot-key to the client just for this. But I have a better idea:
Flip-cap button for UNDOCK!!
Because we all know that's the most dangerous thing you can do in EVE.
I will pay extra for this feature. "....as if 10,058 Goon voices cried out and were suddenly silenced." |

Haha, for the undock? Oh, man. You don't think that's a bit excessive, and more of a novelty than a necessity. The reason why I ask is because there's not really a lot of space to add that....
although, what I can do is make Undock button now, the STOP button, and then shift the stuff up top to make room for an undock lever. But honestly, do you really want to flip a hatch every time you undock? Well, more than likely it's going to remain unflipped/up, let's be honest. Are you really going to open it and then close it back up? This thing is supposed to make EVE easier, not make things harder.
I agree it'd look bad ass, and having something that I envision on your desk will be titastic, but I don't want to throw bells and whistles on this, just for the sake of bells and whistles, because a week later you'll be sick of flipping that damned cap and you'll wish you just had a simple button to hit.
Think on it.
Anyway, as far as lighting goes I was thinking of doing a pulse effect every time you either hit a High Slot, or everytime you Target something. I was thinking just an instant flash to max light, and then a slow gradient to off. Here, I made this .gif to demonstrate what I imagine for the light. It would not be this type of button, but I used this image to demonstrate it for you guys.
And instead of the button lighting, it could actually be backing of the keys themselves. 1 LED light can light up a whole row no problem. So, normally the keys would not be lit, but when activated/triggered the backing of the keys would light in the manner I described above, but it wouldn't be the keys lighting, it would be the backing. Check this image out to see what I mean.
Another idea. Push-to-Talk key? I see that a lot of people use TS or Vent, or w/e... and not a lot of people use the EVE audio. I don't understand why. I think it works beautifully. But anyway, I'm baffled that nobody requested a Talk key. Is your desktop wallpaper ruining your life? -áLet me help you. |

Zboard has this cool system where you can swap in and out other mo set ups. the mmo boards only cost 10$. Maybe you should take your idea t them? try to prove there is a market for it? They made one for city of heros and no one plays that,
I currently have a z board and would love to have an 'eve' insert for mine. would mean i dont need to then buy another usb hub to integrate your product :P |

Heck, crowdsourcing isn't even legal in some countries (example: Canada). The U.S. only passed trade laws making it possible last April I think. |

I'm actually surprised CCP hasn't put out an mmo keyboard after soo many years.
And we know the game allready has support for alienware keyboards in laptops to glow and pluse as you take damage. So adding some kind of shield armor hull lights in the top left would be awesome.
CCP really needs to look at this awesome keyboard and give the go-ahead for some kind of mass production. city of heros has one, and it has way less players than eve does. 240,000 less players.
Come on ccp, i want that side board so bad.

No way I'd never get tired of it. In fact maybe the overheat buttons should be little knobs that turn to 11! :P http://dl.eve-files.com/media/1206/scimi.jpg |

Mock up
instead of a button for everything on the neocom, 5 programmable buttons on the right side. A single overheat button *like shift* and switches for overheating the whole rack. See steel battalion.
Then use the rest of the space above to include important combat controls like drones, orbit, and so on. Focus the eve box into a small shape by focusing it on combat controls. Lock target, orbit, keep range, break lock, and so on. I'll leave the rest up to you, I could do a full mock up including better sizes and such but I just wanted to throw something together in case it was a direction you might want to go in. http://dl.eve-files.com/media/1206/scimi.jpg |

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you in here. I have started a reply 3 times and keep getting interrupted and then thinking I actually had replied. Don't know why I felt the need to say all that... moving on...
I still really love the idea of a flip-cap button (or two!) I'm wondering if your software guy could just make the button somehow programmable. I'm thinking something like the "quick macro" functionality on the logitech keyboards that can be programmed without using the driver config tools.
From you descriptions thus far this thing will just be sending the usual hot-key keyboard press combinations so having a couple of programmable buttons on there could be real handy. For instance the "push-to-talk" button you were thinking of could be programmable so that you could set it to whatever hot key you are using for ventrillo or teamspeak as well as using it for eve voice if desired. And then you could let the user decide if the flip cap button would be cool for something they do frequently like undock or infrequently like self-destruct.
Flip-cap button for self destruct may be a good idea either way ... that's not something you want to press on accident. (Or have your cat step on while you are afk.) "....as if 10,058 Goon voices cried out and were suddenly silenced." |
