Edited by: Dray on 04/09/2010 11:01:02 To be fair to Collins it's not like it was a secret, everyone and his dog pretty much knew it was him unlike Perry McCarthy, the original Stig, who did out himself in his biography purely for financial gain.
Collins has probably looked at the situation and thought "why not", lets be honest he's earning less than the three presenters on the show but is just as important to it, and if whoring yourself for cash is a crime then Jeremy Clarkeson and Richard Hammond, both of whom wouldn't open a book for less than 5k they're that greedy when it comes to public appearances, are as guilty as anyone. The secret was out a long time ago, what's really the problem.
The BBC are just as culpable as well, paying obscene amounts to a chosen few and shafting regular staff for every penny, you will notice just how much the BBC talks about the Stig brand and how much it's worth, do you think Collins gets any of the cash from that? If you do then you're naive beyond belief.

That's my sentiment as well, I love TG and enjoy Jezza's antics but some people get ridiculous amounts of moolah while others, being as important, simply don't. JC raking in the cash is somewhat defendable (depending on if you like him or not). May needs to make more cash and frankly, make more programs because he's easily better and more interesting than the others. Hammond is just... crap, boring and a complete nitwit.
Collins being paid 2 cents and a loaf of bread, in contrast with the others, I can easily understand him doing it.

They should just make him drive off an aircraft carrier like the last Stig who revealed himself.
Here's to Stig #3 being able to keep his mouth shut.

Right - so you guys/erm gals too would be happy to receive ú7k an appearance, whilst the other 2 lesser columnists take ú250k a year plus benefits of free contracts, and the 'star' receives a ú650k wage free roaming contract and all the edits he ever needs to complete his latest DVD's which will sell by the bucket load, again.
Twits.
Personally i think hes entertained me enough that i wish him a career out of this, and a bank roll from the book too. He'll get neither probably due to this/your rather weird view.

Life isn't fair and our perspective is mostly as viewers of the show. He has every right to make a grab for the cash, but he is reducing my fun and ruining the intended design of the character he playes for personal gain. Just like him, I have every right to be a selfish prick and only think about how the issue affects me. Fair is fair.

Actually, I'd rather like ú36k a year just to drive about 50 cars for a day.
Stig doesn't actually 'present', and lets face it anyone could do it (well, any decent driver anyway).
It's the fact he's broken his contract that I don't like. Leave and then say you were the Stig; when you're not the current stig and therefore your book won't spoil the character.

A skillful argument well presented. I retract 'twits' i was a bit ott there anyway.

Happens all the time. Once someone realises they are in a adverse 'handcuff' situation they usually go to court and fight out the situation - pointing things out like vastly skewed earnings due to poor legal/agent advice. Stuff like this didnt happen then Take That would be working burger bars - i didnt say that it was fair to normal folk !!!

Not anyone could do the Stig's job. I can't agree with you on that. You have to be a fantastic driver to be fully capable of not just handling, but setting track records in the kind of cars he tests. He's been racing for the past 15 years, from F3, LeMans, GT racing, and the like. No average decent driver could do that.
Everything else I agree with though. It's not like Top Gear will last forever. Just wait until the program goes under for whatever reason, have a blast doing it, then publish your book and rake in the extra cash. ~ CURRENT INTERNETS = + 930616 |

It's a valid point but his identity is no longer a secret and hasn't been so for some time this is more to do with the company who's publishing his book than it is him admitting he's the Stig, that's the real issue for the BBC, fairs fair, let him milk it they've certainly done it to him.
He may not present the show but TG without the Stig would be like a blue movie without sex, a load of hairy bobbing man @ss.
