Well, seeing the fail sale is now on at the eve store, I thought I would go take a browse.
I don't fancy spending silly money on one of the models, so I browsed around the other items.
The inner roleplayer succumbed to the lure of the Gallente shot glass, at $8.99, so I click add to cart, and start going through the 'entering personal details' stuff
I click next, and an error pops up about needing to agree to the additional charges. This turns out to be shipping. Shipping to the tune of $33.54 (yes i'm in the UK, that small, little known land, obviously in a war-zone or somthing, and lacking good infrastructure)
I mean really, your having a laugh.
Apologies if i have posted this in the wrong place. If so, please move to Crime and Punishment

That shot glass is woth the $42 dollars!
It is made out of only the finest Trit, reprosessed at a Pirate Faction large tower.
The Veldspar that was Repo'd to make the Trit is the freshest and highest quality in New Eden, straight from the belts of Ammar.
It was mined from these belts by the most famous minning ship in history, The Veldnaught. Flown by Super Star Cribba!, so it is worth it and you should order it!
And to insure speedy delivery, the package will be handeled by Red Frog.

But apparently the US is...
The eve store stuff used to be sent from iceland which meant cheap shipping for uk/europe.

Very true, but generally I have stuff shipped from the US to my home in the Netherlands for a whole lot less with UPS. CCPs store (located in Atlanta) uses FedEx exclusively, which is probably the most expensive shipping company on the planet if you need something moved out of the US.

I guess in fairness they don't have enough business to justify getting regional distribution partners. Although there have been many such threads about the perceived extortionate/pointless nature of the eve store's shipping costs. Wasn't it justified by being 'super special' UPS or something?

Problem is older than most Eve bugs or features. Any other company can ship stuff for (close to) squat from the other end of the world....CCP is still "looking into better shipping deals". Laughable at best.

Unfortunately I had to agree. Until they don't get some better shipping options, I avoid the store. I only buy things at the fanfest. If I'm already there, then there is no extra shipping fees, and extra taxes. I just bring it home.

I lol'd. As long as the next expansion trailer doesn't feature Jason Donovan singing a duet with some lag-hag from the Jurassic I might even sleep easy.

Not sure exactly what's required in "looking into other shippers". Presumably phoning a few companies, or maybe even going to their website , and asking for pricing. I can totally understand how this would take months. Really.
If they had any sense at all, they'd redistribute things in Europe from their new Newcastle office. Chances of that happening? Yeah right.
