Hi all, I've been thinking about switching my Combat Drones with Webifier/Utility/ECM Drones. The setups I have in mind are:
[Setup A - Web & TP] 2x Berserker SW-900 Heavy Webifier Drone 2x Berserker TP-900 Heavy Target Painter Drone
[Setup B - Web & ECM] 2x Berserker SW-900 Heavy Webifier Drone 3x Vespa EC-600 Medium ECM Drone
[Setup C - Web & Dampen] 2x Berserker SW-900 Heavy Webifier Drone 2x Ogre SD-900 Heavy Sensor Dampener Drone
[Setup D - Web & Disrupt] 2x Berserker SW-900 Heavy Webifier Drone 2x Praetor TD-900 Heavy Tracking Disruptor Drone
I believe the Webifier Drones are usefull in every setup and mandatory, because I'll remove the Stasis Webifier Module to free up a Medium slot. That slot will be used by a Drone Navigation Computer I (to speed up MWD speed of the Heavy Drones by 25%).
Do you guys/gals think that any of the above setups is viable? If not, can you please post an alternative?
Do any of you have any experience with ONLY Webifier/Utility/ECM Drones in the Drone Bay? I fly a Maelstrom (solo), do you think the ship will be fine without Combat Drones?
From what I understand, only the Webifier Drone will be superior against a Medium Slot configuration. I can send the Webifier Drones as far as 30 km, while the Stasis Webifier Module cannot lock a target past 10 km (without overheating it). I know the Dampen/Disrupt/ECM effect is more powerful with Modules and their Optimal is the same as the Control Range of my Drones, but I like the fact that if I use the Drones I can free one (or two) of the ship's Medium Slots.
The question is this: Can a Maelstrom survive by utilizing any of the above setups, without using any Combat Drones?
Thanks for reading...

I run 2 berserker sw-900's and 3 valk tp-600's on my mach in PvE. I timed my bounties and I kill faster with these drones than any combination of combat drones.
Even on the cynabal the kill times are less with 1 tp and one sw and 3 hobgoblins than with 5 hammerheads.
I have no idea about using them in PvP.
When you say "fanboi" try to picture a fat man doing burlesque with 2 big ass fans that say CCP on one and HTFU on the other. Because that dude is me. |

I'll try Web & TP Drones in a couple of missions to see if I can get myself into trouble ... Thanks for the PVE input, Cipher.

I doubt that you can get rid of a warp scrambling frigate without a flight of small drones. So if anything, reserve 25m¦ for a flight of them and experiment with the remaining space. That is for PvE speaking. I dont think that they will give you much benefit over 3 sentries though. Try it out and let us know the results. @ McRoll: PVE wise you have a point. Although using 25m¦ for small Drones doesn't leave much space left for Heavy Drones (Medium ones just don't give me the required effect).
Anyone else having thoughts for the use of the above setups in PVP?

Generally for pvp these are the useful drones:
- tech II Minmatar combat drones - tech II Gallente Medium and Heavy drones - tech II Sentries (generally bar Wardens)
- ECM light & medium - Logistics drones
Web drones just plain suck and you need about a full flight to replace a single webber (20% webbing per drone, so 5 drones on target = about 65% webbing), same kinda holds for all other EW drones.
In pvp it is always better to just bring extra warrior IIs and/or ec-300s
All the above is prolly crap
