It doesn't show up under offices, so its not like a free office, whats the point of a HQ for a corp?

You can pretend you operate in a certain area when you really are stationed elsewhere. It is functionally useless, unless it affects where CEO's can surrender wardecs.

The same point of the ability to set what station each corp member is 'based out of'. It makes corporations appear at least slightly businesslike.

If you lose an outpost and your members have their killclone in that outpost they get it moved to your HQ. |

It does add another layer of granularity in how hanger access can be granted/restricted.

Not quite. First, there are the HQ-only access roles, and second, it's where corp members' clones get relocated if you lose an outpost and the new occupier terminates all the clone contracts there.
