I hear that the Throax is a better ship than the Brutix. Is this so? My corp is building a Brutix for me, but is this a waste of time?

Depends on the situation/pilots, but yea most brutix's would win. ------------------------------------------

Other than the drone space, the Brutix is much better than a Thorax in most aspects.

Well, not necessarily, counter-web and Brutix will have problems getting to blaster range from any cruiser with MWD; it's bloody slow. Not that Thorax is a speed demon, either...
There is also one other stat (in addition to drone bay size) where Thorax is significantly better - it has less than half the signature of the Brutix (140 vs 300).
I'll still take Brutix over Thorax for ratting and especially for deadspace any day. :)

I think both of them as her own advantages. Brutix as more raw power, but thorax is faster, can hold more drones and suffer less cap issue (well, with adequat skills), and is more balanced regarding CPU for available slots.
I must confess i love both of them

A Brutix just screams 'please fit blasters on me', but if you try you won't have the cpu to do so. Sure, you can fit a load of (semi)expensive named items and blast away. The Brutix is yet another of those impossible-to-fit-properly-ships of which there are so much in the Gallente line-up. Great slot layout, but not enough grid and cpu.
It has also a poor cap which gets even worse if you fit an MWD (not much choice when going blasters). Actually, its recharge rate with MWD is a lot worse than a Thorax' recharge rate with the same MWD (assuming cruiser skill 3, while most have 4). A Thorax with 1600mm plates and 8 heavy drones can actually outlast a Brutix if you're good at keeping transversal. I'll have to agree that those medium blasters hurt - a lot. I took my rax vs some guy's Brutix (he had lvl 2 BC's) and his cap died when I was at 30% armor. I'm using a 14km optimal setup though, so he had to kill half his cap to get within webber range.
You can make it a rail-setup, but due to its slow speed and large weight it will get eaten by any close-range ship, which is basically any PvP ship.
For missions, stick to the Thorax. Cheaper, easier to fit, way more drone bay and its faster too. And it can handle every lvl 3 mission as well if you fit it right. ------------------------------------------------------- "Do you really think that's air you're breathing?" |

Edited by: Theron Gyrow on 28/12/2004 12:11:00 I did some comparisons before moving to Brutix and finally found the results.
This is with both ship skill levels at 4.
Advantages, Brutix: +25 base CPU (+8.3% compared to Thorax's) +300 base grid (+42.9%) +2 high slots which are turrets +1 med slot +1300 base struct (+108%) +1200 armor (+114.3%) +1025 shields (+105.1%) +400 base cap (+36.4%) (if MWDs fitted to both, this drops to 135 (+13.6%) (and according to skill description, _should_ be 80 (7.7%), but isn't) +1 target +1 sensor rating +20% to armor repair effectiveness
Advantages, Thorax: +1000 drone bay (+100%) +20 base speed -1250000 weight (-9.4%) +12.0% more cap/sec back when MWDs fitted (should be +18.2%, but isn't) +25 scan (+12.5%) -160 signature (-53.3%)
The big things are: Brutix has two extra turret slots, one extra midslot, about twice the shields, armor and hull but about _double_ signature and half the drone bay and is a tad slower/heavier.

Exactly my conclusion.
Now all we need is the grid/cpu to actually fill those extra slots and a slightly better cap, and we're looking at a good ship.
For now, it's worthless compared to its Amarr and Caldari brothers. ------------------------------------------------------- "Do you really think that's air you're breathing?" |

The same could be said for the Dominix. Nice slot layout, useful drone bonuses... but the smallest grid in the game, making it a nightmare to fit. With simply a little more grid, it would be on par with the rest of the tier1 battleships.
I suspect the massively reduced grid on the Brutix (as compared to the original) was in response to the multi-OAB-fitted monsters that that produced. Now that the AB/MWD situation is fixed, how about boosting the Brutix grid up a small bit (and doing the same for Dominix)? Pretty please, devs?
Actually, the BC situations mirrors all too many racial ship configs in the game at the moment. Caldari and Amarr the best, Gallente and Minmatar noticably behind. It's annoying. But fixable without resorting to massive changes.
