Originally by: Janya Rykayn I would just like to say that I think you did an excellent job here. Most real world stock analysis reports aren't nearly this thorough.
Thank you for the comment. This document is actually less than half the original material, however I felt that some of the techniques could not be automated and retain a sufficient degree of accuracy so I omitted them.
I list but a few of omitted items in the document, I also have done quite extensive technical analysis that involves comparing a commmodity to its particular "market".
I have created an analysis summary page for this document, well not precisely this document. It is an analysis summary page for this commodity however, it's a summary of an analysis that uses data from up until yesterday. I will be posting it here to receive comments on it.

Looks very good.
The overarching recommendation is clear. However, I'd like a little bit more prose and better formating (maybe put it in table form) in page 3. Namely, make it clear where to buy and to sell again. I'm sure it's buried in there somewhere, but it looks like a 1980s computer printout when it should look slick and be very easy to read.
This has a lot of potential! Were you saying that after you pull the raw data that the report almost writes itself? Is it that automated yet? _________ Eve - for when I'm not playing minecraft ;) |

Again, I'd be interested in whatever, but there would need to be a proven track record for the predictions. The track record would have to exceed the amount that I make in my own trading in order to be worthwhile.

What would you be satisfied with?
What if I were to input old data, say from one month ago and do this with multiple commodities then do a statisical analysis on the success rate on the predictions?
If this is not pleasing then you will have to wait to see if Ferrogel goes the way the analysis says, however even this would not constitute proof, it would be anecdotal.

Yes, as I've mentioned, I currently have multiple saved pieces of analysis, and I am creating past analyses using past price data. I will produce a document to show accuracy of analyses.
I am interested in also producing non-commercial pieces of technical analysis so if anyone has any particular requests for tools/methods to use, I will oblige.

Oh my this is taking off rather quickly!
As for the layout, I'm really busy at work. I might (read probably will forget about it) get one out to you tonight if it'd be helpful.
In the mean time, I know you mentioned using historical data, but I'd like some analysis of how well your recommendations would have fared. Maybe look at the data up to 90 days old, give a recommendation, and see how it plays out. This might help first time investors worry less about the quality and accuracy of the reports.
Unfortunately, my operation isn't into investing in commodities, mostly exploiting item spreads at the moment. If I had it in my mind to invest, then the cost would most certainly be worth it.
Have you made contack with Block Uks? (spelling?) Seems like there might be a place on his site for your reports, maybe a joint venture? I'm just throwing that out there, I don't know how it'd work _________ Eve - for when I'm not playing minecraft ;) |

Yes a layout would be very helpful, and you can have a discount on a future purchase.
I will be putting together a proper analysis or just how accurate its been.
Remember there is always custom or premier analysis options if you need a particular kind of service that is relevant to your trading.
I was intending to contact Block, however not about a joint venture but about data collection from his site.
I am trying to strike the right balance between commercial and non-commercial. I intend to start public data collection for an IPO/Bond risk analysis project soon.

I have created an alternate summary page following your design nearly exactly; font changed.
Here This also uses newest proper data. Where it says historical data, which data am I meant to take according to your layout?
This version will be included as standard in reports, changes maybe maybe to colouring to match general scheme or vice versa.
I am currently creating a custom point and figure chart modified for Eve commodities.
Suggestions are welcome, especially suggestions for new services that could be added and improvements.

It's looking better and better.
2 things:
1.) [completely asthetic] it looks a bit dirty. I think there are ways to create PDF's from Excel printouts that wouldn't look stretched (blurry and pixelated). Also, in those printouts, there wouldn't be the grey gridlines in the background, which don't look great. Again, purely asthetic. See this: Linkage
2.) [for clarification] the *'s I put in indicate the things you can explain. I don't think the explanation should be on this sheet, but on a separate page.
For instance, is the Indicator Force Total = Sub-Indicator Total * Indicator Total? What does the number 21 tell us? This will help people who really don't know how TA works to better understand where the numbers are coming from, what they mean, and what actions are appropriate to take regarding them.
Also, maybe put in a column for strength of the buy, or indicate whether or not the investment is a strong buy (if your models allow such information).
Also, for the historical prices, you could just look at the average prices 7 days ago, 30 days ago, 90 days ago. Nothing fancy, but that's what I wanted to convey. This gives the investor a snapshot on the same screen as the analysis.
Anyway, it's really coming together nicely! _________ Eve - for when I'm not playing minecraft ;) |

Well, the indicators are pre-weighted in relation to their actual accuracy so it's just a matter of counting them up, There is no real technical analysis, and my multiplying indicators by sub indicators is a rather crude way of creating a single value by which analysis strength can be judged; there's a bit more to it when it comes to deciding the values around which indicator strength is relevant, at above 40 etc. Yes my model actually would allow for a box where the probability of the analysis being correct can be shown.
I will implement other fixes.

I'm not too knowledgeable about markets and their dynamics but as far as I know, when you have more and more people capitalizing on a "trend", the predicted outcome might be different than the real one or even be opposite. Otherwise put, the more people get to know about a good deal, the less "good"/profitable it will turn out to be. That being said, what happens if 10 people will ask you for a report on the same product? Will there be a limit on that?
Also, this will have a much more obvious effect on the Market Alert Service. If 50 people get identical reports on 15 items and start trading on them, it's not of much use anyway. Who chooses which are those 15 items? Are they huge volume commodities (like minerals) which would require BIG capital/stocks to change a trend?
Of course if I started from a wrong premise, these worries are not really based on solid ground. Yet it would be nice if someone could shed some light

Markets are driven by trends. The primary trend is almost unsurpassable (almost = scarce super-niche items can be manipulated). IE Christmas vacations tend to create huge demand for certain commodities and this just shapes the markets upwards. Changes to game fundamentals achieve the same effect as well.
Then there are the so called "market makers". These are wholesale institutions, in EvE they are the large alliances acting thru the traders acting on their behalf. They can make a market spike for days, they perform their own analysis, they drive the market in the direction they want. Then, akin to RL hedge funds, there are smaller market makers who perform large scale speculation and manipulation. They can temporarily change a market but not in a permanent way. They also perform their own analysis.
Finally, there are the retail traders, they can play dips, can join into a manipulation and even perform small scale and short term manipulations. These, along with end buyers are the possible candidates for this kind of reports. They will rarely be determinant at changing a trend expecially since they don't form cartels to impact with a leveraged equity.

Subscribers to Market Alert Plus receive 15 Standard Technical Analysis reports each week for the price of 200million per month; 3.3 million per report.
This new service differs from the Market Alert regular which contains the summary pages, not the charts aswell.

If 10 people ask for a report on the same product or are subscribed to market alert service, they are made fully aware of the number of others who have access to that same report.
If it comes to 50 subscribers I may expand the number of reports that are distributed each week; without increasing the price. Any commodity can be moved by relatively few players in the short term; my most pressing concern is that all users of JTRI services have all the information and are aware of risks of investing.
I choose the 15 items; based on input from the subscribers. The first round of market alerts has gone out and because of the subscriber composition; the report was entirely Moon Minerals.
New format of standard technical analysis reports; This is Ferrogel, updated with most recent data. 09/09/2010 STA Report

I'm just learning about technical analysis thanks to the recent wealth of threads. It was my (from a quick web search) understanding that a fibonacci retracement draws lines between a low trough and a high peak, but your retracements seem to drop well below historical lows. Is this a misunderstanding on my part or yours?

You're quite correct as to how Fibonacci retracements work and your point has already been pointed in this. It's a very pleasing criticism because it means you read it.
Here is what I said last time
Originally by: 49473
Originally by: Mini Tee I think you didn't apply the fib retracements correctly. You're supposed to measure the last swing and add the retracements there. Lets say the swing from 11k and 9k, then .382 of that swing which would be 9764.
Other than that it's a nice report, but I don't see any use in it, (no offense) because I don't see the point in fancy indicators.
Here is my take on Ferrogel, pointing out a possible bottom and to where it might retrace, though it would be a countertrend trade, and I would not take it.
I understand how traditional fib retracements are done, however for my purposes and because of previous testing I've found what you see actually more useful for eve commodities; as strange as it is. In the next future reports, they will be done ôrightö as well as ôwrongö
I donÆt take offence, I find technical analysis enjoyable, and I think it provides a way for me to keep my trading interesting. I could adopt more traditional and less fancy trading methods, but I donÆt particularly want to because I find this works better for me and enjoy it.
They will included (as they have already been modelled) when I add more indicators to next sunday.
