me and a friend had this discussion this weekend about hardcore gameplay meaning , you create a character you train it and there are no clones so when you get podded you die forever, meaning you need to start all over from zero again What would be the effect on EVE This certainly isn't a proposal or anything, we were just wondering what would happen hypothetical
so what do you think what would happen

You need to be a pretty bad dude to be able to play Eve on HARDCORE mode. With those limitations, I doubt many people would want to play Eve on HARDCORE mode. --------- "The." -Oceano da Cruz |

The problem with that mode is that as soon as that 3 year pilot die and gets reset to 8k SP, he or she most likely would not continue to play, and as such the business model wouldn't sustain a paying playerbase.
That's why, even now without an upgraded close you don't get "that big" setback when being podded. But the idea is indeed pretty interesting, and from the killer/griefers' perspective I am sure a lot of pilots would want it - as long as it's not themselves ending up with 8k SP.

Assuming every other aspect of EVE remains the same the game would grind to a sticky halt. Empire and low sec would feal the hit but the biggest change would be in 0.0.
Capitals would become extremely rare. Blobs would ensure that players are kept in a constant state of "youth" Ships would be fit specifically for the purpose of crippling enemy pilots. This would be known as the rise of the Disco ships.
Key industrialists would NEVER leave station. From the confines of stations they would have the week old alts do all the work.

It would only affect how those "hardcore" players play the game. The affect on the actual game would be non-existent, since 99% of subscribers would ignore the option as idiotic and couldn't care less about the exploits of the few who would use it. Dying is pretty common in many multiplayer areas of the game, so the "hardcore" players wouldn't live long enough to affect things in any noticeable way. As a default no one cares about what people do in the singleplayer parts, so the carebear "hardcore" wouldn't affect things either.
Basicly you would have a small group of people who are even more cautious than the current subscribers. Any bonuses you offered to the "hardcore" characters would be used mostly to make carebearing/farming alts. EVE would gain nothing good from them and anyone who wants to be really "hardcore" can biomass their character after the first podding already.

Either no one would get over a few SP, or alliances would be centralised around god like players who managed to get to 10mil SP.
Ibis fleets instead of BS fleets.
And everything falling apart when POS managers get killed.

Well it would make EVE like the RL world is now because that's what it basically comes to. And a lot more peaceful; PvP just for fun will cease to be an option.
People would only PvP when the odds are very much in their favour or, more probable, with low SP alts. Mercenaries and assassins will have the time of their lives.

Like stated above, decrease the time it takes for that character to train skills considerably (like allow him/her to train 10 times as fast) and you have a valid option...
Characters like these would most likely be used as: Traders (don't leave the station, so no risk in getting killed) Titan-alts (they train fast, but live dangerously while doing so, an organized corp could provide the necessary protection though)
I myself might be interested in such a character, although I would live a bit more dangerously than the options above...

It would be an interesting concept, in addition to the current system.

if you could choose to make a new char and get the option to turn "hardcore" on and get like 4x training speed, but if u die.. you die, id make an alt for that.
i know there would be quite a few ppl who would do it as well. you wouldnt get over a few mil sp (4x training speed, you gain sp REALLY fast.. so afew mills is like a week or so) but you could get into a frig/ceptor/cruiser in that time and pwn away... or get killed and reset :D
then youd have epeen contests whos got the highest SP, most kills etc.
OFC there would have to be other limitations. if for example u make a industry char that has the 4x traning speed... you dont need to undock. so it would be fair.
it wouldnt be easy to implement and theres alot of things to concider so the system wouldnt be abused. ---------------------------------- Fighting for something

The problem with that is people would always just wack "hardcore" mode on when they are idle.
I guess there would have to be a cool down of something like a week or maybe even a month in between each shift.

A big problem with the 'hardcore' character would be suicide ganking.
Train a 'hardcore' alt up. When their sec status gets to low just pod kill them.
Right now you can get in trouble for deleting a ganking toon like that. With this eh...

Indeed. The comments are pretty funny and shows that even at the beginning in 2003 we had the same types of poasters.

Exactly. So they don't fight, unless they're 100% sure they're going to come out alive. Both sides do that, they never fight. No fighting makes for a ****ty pvp game. Makes this a terrible idea.

Not possible. Not if you want to have fun. Though anything to halt the production of capitals I'm down for. Or anything really to get rid of the massive amount there are. Now everyone has a cap fleet. Which is fine i guess. But when you can just fail warp a Nyx to a pos and get popped and be like "Damnit, I don't feel like fitting another one" theres to many.
