Edited by: grendels arm on 28/12/2004 18:13:50 Edited by: grendels arm on 28/12/2004 18:13:03 yes I finally have a cruiser and am planning to mine and kill anything that gets in my way. So if I plan on mining alone is the best strategy
1. Find a good system to mine in. 2. Dock my Badger 2 at a station in the system 3. Mine like crazy with my Osprey leaving cans everywhere in the belt I'm in. 4. Go back when I'm done, get my Badger 2 and take what's in the can's back to station to refine. Might not refine since my skills in mining aren't too high.
Is this the general idea. Any ideas on how to shorten the time other than mining skills, etc. Would it be faster to just team up with some and camp at the asteroid field in my Badger 2 with some protection while a few people mine? Then we share the loot? I sorta am greedy so I think mining by myself maybe better. Also I guess getting the better miners would help too.

When I used to mine in a Thorax (long ago) I used to use four Hammerheads (all I had skill to use) and they would handle spawns in 0.6 and up no problem and also sometimes 0.5. Four Hammerheads is also coincidentally what the Osprey will hold. If you're staying in 1.0 or 0.9 you can use mining drones which is a plus. The other thing about the Osprey is you can toss a Heavy Launcher in the fourth slot and this will help with NPCs as well.
If you're going lower than .5 I'd recommend ninja mining. Ninja mining can entail many things but essentially the main tactic is to leave the belt when NPCs spawn.

Off the top of my head I forget what the Osprey can hold. But I think it has launchers. If so I would think in pretty secure space I can hold off Guristas by myself.
But the question is am I correct in the strategy for mining with the BAdger 2 picking everything up?

until u get Caldari cruiser lvl4, Osprey suck nuts... simple like that. Thorax is much better miner, mission runner, scout, pvper... And only at cruiser skill lvl4 Osprey _starts_ gettin little better at mining
Fighting in Osprey? - hell, I think every1 already havin a good laugh ____ When flying by Concord Customs Commander's Dominix I distinctly heard him saying "... world domination..." |

Edited by: invaderzim on 28/12/2004 21:48:26 Not a good idea to jetcan mine in secure space. Use a hauler to drop a huge secure can near to where you will be mining. If you do it right, you can mine right into the can. Make sure you set the password .
I've used this setup and it usually works for me: Hi:(3)Miner2, (1)Heavy launcher Med:(1)mwd, (1) Shield booster Low: (1)Balistic control, (1)co-processor, Drones: (4)hammerheads
If you plan on mining in low sec space, change the low slots to wcs's and ditch the drones as 4 hammerheads would only get left behind or blown up with your ship. As has already been stated in other threads: make sure you're aligned for warp and your path is free from obsticales such as cans and roids.
On a related note, make an insta for your can. When you return with your hauler, warp way out from the belt to make sure you've got no surprises then use your insta to warp right to your spot.
As for fighting in an osprey, the caracal is much more effective. I would try to train/save up for that.

I'm mining in an Osprey at this very moment myself. ::Alt-tabs to dump minerals into his jet can::
Seriously though, great mining ship. I fit it out with 3 Miner IIs and 1 Heavy Launcher in high, a Medium Shield Booster, 10mn AB, Survey Scanner, and Cap Recharger I in mid, and 2 Expanded Cargoholds and a Co-Proc in low. I usually carry 4 light drones and 4 mining drones, and mine in 0.5 with my corp. The mining drones aren't super useful, but every little bit counts. Between the light drones, the heavy launcher, and the medium shield booster on autorepeat, I don't have any trouble with Guristas frigate spawns. I like the extra space of the expanded cargoholds, especially considering that my 3 Miner IIs bring in a total of 427.68 ore units per minute not bad for a cruiser. Without those cargo holds I often find my lasers deactivating due to my cargo being full.
Love the osprey, wouldn't mine in any other cruiser.

wow, killing in an Osprey, thats just funny in itself. Vin Diesel claims he has never hailed a taxi. He just runs up to them at stop lights, opens the door, shoves the current passenger over, and tells the cab driver what his new destination is. |

forget about combat unless fighting <.6 rats....osprey isnt made for combat....if your planning to mine in .5 and under, you should ask a friend or corp mate to protect you....and like joe said, train caldari cruiser to lvl 4 because a osprey mines only 216 at lvl 1.....
if you want to solo mine i suggest getting a Thorax....its drones bay can carry 8 heavy drones that should easily take care of .3 rats and can use 5 miner 2's

Single most important time saving advice: make good bookmarks. To the belt and instadocking. While mining keep the nose of your mining ship pointing to the station. A full jetcan takes 2-4 trips to haul, depending on indy and skills.
Get rich.

Edited by: grendels arm on 29/12/2004 16:08:14 It seems no matter what I do in the game you have to get your skills super high to be worth a crap. I think "wow I can get a cruiser". Then when I get the cruiser I find out I need to spend tons of time on skills or it's crap. I can't dedicate my weekends to this game or my nights anymore. I mean whoopy my shield capacity is now 5% higher because shield management went up another level. Big deal. Just can't dedicate the time you guys can to this game. FPS games are great for me because of this. Glad I only is month to month. Cancel coming after this month unless things get more exciting.

It will only take you a few weeks to get Caldari cruiser 4, mining 4, drones 4, science 4 and astrology 4, that's all you need to be a good miner an an Osprey.
You know that skills train when you are offline, right?

Grendel; this is a MMORPG after all, if you want to play solo, Freelancer or some FPS game might indeed be the way to go.
OTOH there is no such RPG where you start and yield the uber sword, carry the uberarmour or blast away your enemies with a megafireblast right after you create your char.
One of the main advantages of EVE over some other MMORPG is the fact that you don't need to kill tons of enemies until you climb up the next level (i.e. leveling treadmill). Another thing to mention is that there are no character classes, everyone can be anything he likes to be.
To offset that, it needs "real" time to learn skills. However, if you specialize in one or two fields, you actually don't need *that* long to learn the respective skills. Unless, of course, you did set your goals too high.
If you're still in your NPC-Starter corp, I'd recommend to join a player run corp. Much more fun and there might even be some goals to work for.
If you got any questions, don't hesitate to contact me ingame (our outgame, for that respect).

Well since skills train while you are offline, you dont need to dedicate every weekend e.t.c to get the skills uber high. Thats whats gr8 with EVE. -----------------------------------

Edited by: grendels arm on 29/12/2004 21:41:46 I'll try to explain better.
Do I have to be online when mining? Yes I do unless I go AFK which ain't too smart.
Do I have to come back to Eve when one skill is done so that I can start another? Yes I do unless I give someone else my id. Not too smart.
Can I run agent missions, kill things or anything else while not logged onto Eve? No I cannot.
Building skills up is not exciting as I mentioned. Am I going to pay $13 or whatever a month to train skills? No I am not. I know what will happen. I will get all the skills for mining and then someone will say "you need to get that skill to level 4" or "level 5". Well that skill will take 8 days to do. Not too exciting.
An say I do become a Mining tycoon and make millions per day. This means in about a month I can get a battleship. Which I'm gonna bet I need tons of skills to be able to operate, which will take me another few months (since they are level 5 most likely) to be able to train.
A neverending cycle they put in the game intentionally to keep your subscription going. And it's obviously a success for CCP. I'm not trying to bash Eve. It's just every time I begin to get a little excited about something "wow I got a cruiser to mine with", I get bummed out when I realize I need to train more and more.
