I've only flown Caldari ships, so shield and missiles are all that I know. I am looking to move into a different race's ships and dont know which way to go. I am mostly a PVE player, getting into the PVP side of the game. Any advice would be appriceated!

Minmatar. You can fly shield/nano ruppies, canes and tempests for pvp after training projectiles while you then train armour skills. You also get the Vargur for additional PVE funtimes.
You COULD go Amarr for the Khanid ships and their missiles but most of 'em are armour tanks and you'll get less joy from their t1 lineup without considerable armour and laser skills.
You could play the odds and go Gallente, since they're due some love and with a little luck your training plan will coincide with some tasty buffs.
If it was me doing it all again though, Minmatar every time. I say this as someone who went Caldari -> Gallente -> Amarr -> Minmatar. Just finished my minmatar training plan and my GOD I wish I'd done it a lot sooner. Putting the 'irate' into 'Pirate' |

Minni as said before is basically Caldari`s True Pirate Faction ships, Just Train for ACS and you get Cane that feels like a big powerful cruiser, and Vaga feels like a big powerful longrange Frig in there speed.
They are great as a race and perfect For Shield tanking with excellent guns.
If you flew PVE raven all boosters are same except guns so you have that. Buffer for cane vaga etc was trained with Drake. If you had good gunnery skills you get the best Snipers in the game now, with ships that can Insta Kill Badgers frigs and more. -------------------------------------------------- "If Eve Was P*rn, It would be a Snuff film, First you get screwed then you get killed" -Me

I started Caldari specced, and I went Minmatar. Reason being because Caldari ships are all about a size too large, where Minmatar ships are all about a size too small.
So you get both ends of the scale well represented, and you can leverage synergies (sorry!) with missiles and shields.
You'll find you get some good PvP ships, especially in the sub-BS range.
your other options are: Gallente - because hybrids are good for both races, and armour tanking doesn't take long to train. You may have missed on some of the Caldari hybrid boats, and ... they're not bad, if used right.
Amarr isn't much of an option, because no common weapon system and no common tank, and ... actually I find fairly comparable capabilities - the ships are heavy tanks with midrange firepower, which is also what Caldari does quite well at. Of course, being armour tanked does help anyway, in PvP.

Thanks for the advice! I Was leaning towards Gallente only for the fact that there are skills used with that and my current plans. However, it seems as though Minmatar is the choice for most PVP'ers. I don't want to "go with the flow", but don't know if Gallente is the right choice for PVP.

As a second point of reference, I did Gallente|Caldari (Hybrids) -> Amarr -> Minmatar -> Caldari (Missiles) and Amarr is where it's at. I think it's really important to remember what kind of play style you like. My personal preferences: - Capitals: Amarr - Battleship: Amarr (Geddon) - Battlecruiser: Caldari (Drake FTMFW) - T3: Caldari (Tengu) - Cruiser: Amarr (Curse) - Frigate: Amarr (Crusader)
Obviously, those aren't the only ships I like but... they're my favorites.

Ed: Minmatar over Gallente, at least for the moment. I don't expect any rebalances (Gallente/Hybrid love) until at least next summer. -- Eve Forum ***** Extraordinaire On Twitter Blog
