I was scouting through lowsec today and realized that half the time we could not pronounce the names of things correctly. English pronunciation seems to apply to many words, but it'd be nice to have a button to pronounce a system through the neocom.

It is confirmed then. I've been mispronouncing Amamake for almost a year now. _______________________

I doubt CCP has the will (read: resources, *effort*) to create such feature so I would instead ask that the system description contain a reference to the origin of the name in question. For instance, Amamake looks/feels to me to be of Inuit or Old Norse origin which is a determining factor in how it is to be pronounced.

Edited by: Torothanax on 09/09/2010 11:54:47 People can't even pronouce the ships names correctly. I'm sooo tired of hearing about a "har-bean-ger" (Harbinger) on such and such gate. Some of the names aren't even real words that I can tell. WTF is a "Prorator". Quite a few systems names clearly are not english based, which isn't a bad thing, but it causes some confusion.
I don't seen it happening, but it wouldn't be a bad feature. Educate the masses PLEASE.

Yeah, I wouldn't go off that pronuciation software for names. Pretty sure Amamake is ah-mah-mah-kay...

I would have pronounced it basically how google did, either Ama-make or Ama-Mar-Key

It's a fictional name, so unless the originator comes out and tells us how he intended it to be pronouced, no one can really say for sure. I was using japanese pronuciation rules, as it looks like a japanese based name. They basically have one sound per vowel.
Amamake doesn't even have an "r" in it, so I'm not sure where you're getting "mar-key" from.

I'd add that I can't tell if the letter is an I or L when system names are capitalized.

+1. This would help reinforce the depth of EVE. It's been lacking in the past few years. ________ RolePlayGateway || EVE UserVoice: A Supplement to the CSM |
