Ever since CCP started doing the V3 shader update a lot of the ships in our EVE have been wrapped up in camo. I personally do not like the camo patterns I think it's silly to put camo on a space ship. I'm really glad CCP is doing the graphical updates, the game really needed it and I know it's not easy work.
I just feel like the art department took the easy way out with the camo stuff. Instead of coming up with awesome color scheme and trim patterns like the Noctis has, they wrapped everything in Realtree and gave us the Navy Mega.... It makes me sad.
I know a lot of people agree with me and there are be some who don't. Does the general player base at large like or dislike the camouflage?
TL;DR

Technically, if you want good optical camo in space you should have some kind of black/white matte paint with white/blue/orange spots here and there.
Would look weird in Eve.
But I agree, forest camo is ******** in space. Inappropriate signature, CCP Phantom. |

No, not necessarily. The ORE ships are all colored red brown and gold in using creative trim patterns. Tech II ships painted in the colors of the company that makes them is cool too. They managed to make the Alliance tournament ships look really cool without using a camo pattern.
I just think when it came time to do the navy ships they phoned it in. |

first off most navy/army ship have some kind of camo paint.
in wwi and wwii there were navy battleships and carrier's that were camo painted.
thats what sets them about from other thing is the camo you can look and go ok that navy/army ship.
after radar was made navy gave up useing camo paint on there ships because radar would see them anyway. The camo paint is one way of just saying this is a navy ship not a normal ship.
if you fail to understand that then you need to read more. It not there trying to hide the ships in space its something my looking at and not useing the overview you know that ship has camo its not a meta 1 is a faction or t2 ship.
yes i rember when the navy mega was jet black looked nice but i understand why there camo now.
But ccp is talkig about custom paitn youll have to wait untill its ingame to change your paint. Rember when the Ford model T was first made you could have any color you wanted as long as its was black. |

Considering our ships have sensors that can detect any other object within thousands of kilometres and the lifespan of capsuleer ships it doesn't make any sense to paint the ship any colour at all. Would you prefer every ship was bare metal? No. Instead CCP went with visually interesting camo schemes which call to mind actual military equipment. Rather suitable.

I absolutely agree with the OP. I was going to fire up a new thread, but now I'll just post my piece here:
Quote:You guys do amazing work. The game has come SUCH a long way graphically through your never ending updates.
However, respectfully, the idea of "camo in space" has never really sat well with me. It makes no sense and I really don't like it. When it was just a few ships, I shrugged and figured it was no big deal, but now it's everywhere. My precious Vindicator is now all blotchy, where previously it was sleek and black with wicked green lights. The Navy ships all have this same issue, and now the Angel ships are suffering the same fate.
It's TOTALLY fine if you want to appeal to a broad audience, but please do it by increasing the variability of ship skins, rather than slapping camo on all of them. I far preferred the beat up and "used" look of the original skins (allowances made for the dated graphics of course) to what I'm seeing these days.
There are so many other options when skinning these ships, and if I am remembering from previous blog posts on the new shading technology, there is NO reason players should not be able to toggle shader layers thus displaying or removing their camouflage layer.
Thanks for the great game CCP!
Please consider giving us a few options when it comes to camo.
Thanks! Ta Nix <3

Clearly the problem isn't that ships have camo, but rather that we don't have terrain to take advantage of it.

The thing about the argument against camo not meaning **** in a world dominated by targeting computers goes both ways. ... Why not paint them in camo?
Lore tells us most of our ships have observation decks, though. Using camo for purely aesthetic reasons to designate a military vessel doesn't seem out of the question. Again - it isn't a big deal either way because there's probably an electronic distinction with civilian craft.
Now, I'm not saying I like the "Put camo on EVERYTHING" mentality that's sprung up as of late, but some of the arguments about it are rather petty. Dirty heretical mud-child, reporting in. |

Ground camo on spaceships is a terrible mistake, and yes, I hope they get replaced with proper paint jobs. The navies should have distinctive war colours that increase the desirability of these fine ships.

My personal opinion on the matter is that camo is fine on the criminal pirate factions (Angel, Serpentis and Guristas) since it's about as sensible as shooting your gun sideways whilst your pants are around your knees. Which would work since the grunts of these factions are unlikely to be any more complicated than your average real life 'gangstah'.
On the navies however I do agree it makes no sense at all. A navy should be designing ships that are cost-efficient, effective and sensible. Space camo is none of these things. The grunts of these factions would be trained military personnel. |

I like my camo ships. Thank you very much.
Besides that any color of any kind on any ship in space would be silly. Ships traveling faster than light with sensors recognizing you from millions upon millions kilometers away don't care for your ship painting, no matter whether it's deep black or bright glowing pink.
I don't know whether that was CCP's intend and I don't know whether it even fits into the EVE lore, but I once read that the camo color patterns originate from the prevalent vegetation of the home worlds of their corresponding races. With Gallente having wide spread jungle flora or Caldari lots of ice and cities.
Therefore the camo patterns would be based on a cultural heritage the different races carried with them out into space. And that's a thought I like very much.
At the very least it makes more sense than a military vessel with police style paintings in civil ownership (though I admit that was cool and fun, if only because it was so ridiculous). |

My biggest gripe is that the ships looked just fine pre-V3ing. If they had just updated their current skins to higher resolution instead of just totally scrapping their original look for this camouflage nonsense...
Also: They raped the Vagabond. Space. It seems to go on and on forever. But then you get to the end and a gorilla starts throwing barrels at you. |
