i've been mining for the past 3 weeks or so and finally just purchased a decent ship, so i'm wanting to fit it with missile launchers. is there a 'best' missile launcher out there? can you give me info on missiles too? what skills help with missile launcher performance?

Missile launchers at this time are very generic.
The Rocket Launcher barely holds 3 rockets, but can launch all three in 3 seconds (1 second per rocket).
The A3 Assault launcher can hold 3 light missiles, or 30 rockets, and can fire one every 6 seconds.
The M-12 standard launcher can hold 1 cruise missile, 2 heavy missiles, 12 light missiles, or 40 rockets, and fires once every 12 seconds.
The above 3 launchers take up about 12 cpu and 1-3 powergrid, so they can easily fit on any frigate that has a missile bay available.
There is also an H-50 available for cruisers that launches a missile every 18 seconds. I just don't recall off-hand what the capacity is, but it takes 50 CPU and 60 powergrid to activate, so it is strictly a cruiser and battleship weapon.
All of these have pirate equivelants that are slightly easier on the requirements and slightly faster to fire. But really, most of the technology is in the missile itself instead of the launcher.
Rockets have about a 7k effective range, and do 30 points of damage each. Light missiles do 50 points of damage (or 40 for a FOF) and seems to be able to travel about 25k. Heavy missiles do 150 damage each (80 for FOF) and seem to be able to travel 32k. Cruise missiles do 200 damage (160 for FOF), and seem to be able to travel 36k. Torpedoes do 400 damage and can travel up to 36k, but are slow and unguided which makes them almost useless except against the slowest of targets.
Does this help at all?

Theres also upgraded missile launchers. Limos Missile Launcher is a faster launcher then its original m12-launcher design. I hope to find more upgraded launchers from pir8 drops soon.

Since you've been saving for so long, I guess your "decent ship" is a cruiser. In that case, the XR-3200 Missile Bay is the best choice (pirate-dropped H-50). Capacity 50, ROF 15 sec, 45 tf/60MW. |

There's a slightly better version of those dropped by the guristas (not certain about the 50 capacity one, not gotten one so far anyways), can't remember the name but it shaves another second off firing times and slightly less cpu requirements.
