... so the Westboro Baptist Church decides to do it instead.
Warning: the following video contains profanity. I won't link the URL for this reason - if you wanna watch it, it's your call.

For those of you not in the know, the WBC is the church that protests US soldiers' funerals.
(Mods, I know this topic is iffy, religious/political etc... but please, leave it up.)

Edited by: Stick Cult on 11/09/2010 22:37:14 Until I watch the video (watching now), I'm gonna assume this is true, since it really wouldn't be surprising.
There just isn't anything quite like a good old fashioned book burning.
edit: I ****ing love the WBC, and yet they are everything wrong with America.
Quote: ôWBC burned the Koran once û and if you sissy brats of Doomed America bully Terry Jones and the Dove World Outreach Center until they change their plans to burn that blasphemous tripe called the Koran, then WBC will burn it again, to clearly show you some things.ö

One as good or as bad as the other. Just dead things.
But it is hilarious so see the different reactions to more or less the same action. One is approved or even encouraged, the other is condemned.
Some alien being would get a pretty bad impression from us humans, and that rightfully! |

Edited by: Miriam Letisse on 11/09/2010 23:10:05 The one thing I don't get about this type of thing is the "God hates..." malarkey. I always thought god would have wanted to remain neutral in earthly affairs.
This coming from someone who doesn't even believe in god. I do however think that burning religious texts and national symbols is a little out of the realm of free speech.

If it's still a serviceable building then leave it alone, might want to slip that guy some pills and ship him off to a nut house though.

Since we are on the subject, the idea of burning a book is pathetic, although, its full of hate, Woman abuse and the total idea of ruleing the Planet, in so many evil ways!
I sincerely disagree, with the notion it would cause more American Deaths, its pathetic to think these Muslim radicals could get anymore Mad/upset at Americans, they will kill regardeless!

The church belongs to someone, so setting it alight is arson. The korans I assume were bought by christians in order to be burnt, so they are just destroying their own property. They are just being provocative hateful asshats, which is legal.

Good question, I know that's the case for a German flag, if you burn it in Germany you can get up to 3 years in prison (º 90a I No. 2 StGB (German criminal code)), so probably there will be something similar in the US.
Also lol at that guy, he seems the be very angry. The song is hilarious as well "God hates the world ..".
Let's see what happens.

There might be a few local ordinances, but I am pretty sure that there are no laws against it on the Federal or State level. Any such law should be clearly unconstitutional, and I believe the Supreme Court has ruled this way.
I don't think anybody Christian or not, thinks that the Westboro nuts are working according to God's will. Protesting military funerals doesn't make you very popular with anyone in the US.

I'm not religious but all the news on the subject made me want to read the Qu'ran, so i went to the local book store and it was priced at ú50, i thought screw that so went home and downloaded it off the internet.
Basicly if any of you want to read it also, i'll happily burn a few extra copies

Free speech means free speech. Nothing can "fall outside" of free speech, unless you actually have free speech*.
However, religious texts often fall right square in the middle of stupid.
