Immaturity in a person under the age of 18 is a result of them being under 18 and *shocker* not mature. Immaturity in a person over 18 is a mental deficiency as a direct result of a lack of education and proper parental guidance.
I'll make it even more interesting for you. Age discrimination is immature.
You may now proceed to poke non-existent holes in my argument in an effort to convince yourself that you aren't an uneducated dumbass with daddy issues.

I've played with three players under 18. One of them was behaving like a 13 year-old, mainly because he was one at the time.
The other two was actually acting like adults, despite their young age.

Ok
1. I dont care for the age of other people ingame (mostly). Alot of people under 18 just behave like the kind of people they are: Children. There are some positive exceptions (they tend to learn faster and better, so if sopmeone started to FC at 15 they should be pretty amazing at 17+)
2. I am 23 now, started at 17 big deal? ^^
3. As Eve is a rather complex game I'd say everyone under 18 (or say even 21) still playing eve after y few years is to be considered mature for their age to put up with such a game. And even of those alot are asshats. So...even if all <18 in this thread are exceptions they are still quite rare in their agegroup. Their concentration is just a little higher.

I started playing eve at the age of 13 :) At the time i were basicly playing with my rl friend, when he then quitted, I joined a 0.0 alliance "G Thanks Alliance" not sure if it ever got enough reputation to be remembered by anyone, but it was very fun and i enjoyed it. :) I then quit the game for 2 years and about 1 year ago i returned and started a new corporation wich i today run and have alot of loyal friends and members :)
But yeah i would not say eve is only for 18+ as i also played world of warcraft, but it was never the same as eve online.
Sure it was tough at such a young age but i remember i enjoyed it very much :)

I wish I started playing when I was about 18, or at least when EVE first started.
Now at the age of 31 I'm starting to wonder how much time I have left in this game before I deem myself to be too old to play. Then I remind myself that there are a core of players whom are older them me and so I don't feel so bad.
So, to start at 18 or under, think how these will players will be in five years time when they are more mature, think what they will be like when they reach my age, providing EVE is still going by then.
In my eyes, this gives them the advantage over players who start like I did at 28.
In a way, I'm a little jealous!

During my MMO days I've seen many "older" players, around 30 or so, act like total morons, and several younger (~16) guys who act and appear very mature. Of course, sometimes it's the other way around, but generally age seems to have very little to do with being an ******* or not. Good example would be from the early days of WoW when a 29 year old guy made a 17 year old girl cry on vent during a raid in an argument over "class politics". Man, that was awkward.

^This but mostly I've found less 'annoying' behavior in EVE then the other MMO's I've been in, not that I've played them all, part of it I think is the lack of avatars and usefulness of 'global' chat that other MMO's have. We can only wait to see what hell Incarna will release in the form of annoying avatars dancing, burping, standing in the path of doors, etc. -------------------------------------------------------------- Fanboys would make great cult members. |

I'm 17 now, started playing when I was 13. I ragequitted after a few hours then came crawling back a few months later... I suppose I can be annoying from time to time, but truth is, there is a bunch of you older people around who ain't very mature either. And by the way, they should really separate sigs from the main post.

I'm 19 now and started playing at 16 I believe. I've almost been into leadership position of an alliance but it fell apart (I was not yet in leadership so nothing to do with me :P) then another alliance wanted to recruit me because I was considerd one of the best pilots in the old alliance(that makes me proud ^^)
I've lead a few small fleets and everytime everyone was happy with me being FC and aparently I was a good FC also
So for me being young in eve isn't that bad and I've yet to meet a person who I can not get along with

The only thing age has to do with maturity is statistical chance. It just so happens to be that the average youth acts immature and selfish - which really gives a bad rap to the ones which know how to not be idiots. ----------

Yes, adults learn to hide those aspects of themselves.
I don't mind younger players as long as they have a firm grasp of the English language. Not knowing the difference between "your" and "you're", and trying to bypass that by using "ur", means we're going to have problems. Other than that, talk about your pokemans or whatever all you want.

Heard someone in the Minnie militia who sounded about 12 on Eve voice comms the other day...I felt their mum might come on any minute and tell me off for swearing.
I nearly ****ed myself though, until I remembered voice fonts and I suspect it was one of those maybe not, but maybe... hehe
I also remember someone very young FC'ing LFA fleets back in the day...to be fair these kids mentioned have been a lot better on comms than Adamus Maximus from our corp who apparently is 18 but has a mental age of about an 8 year old child. <3 Adamus you freak.

From what I heard before I started playing, I knew that younger people we're usually considered immature and stuff, and hence a burdain to corps/people/wtv. I must admit that I'm still proud about people not knowing my age, even though I'm really active in my corp/alliance and even FC'ed a few times. :P

Edited by: Annie Anomie on 12/09/2010 16:52:30 There's always some honourable exceptions to the rule but generally kids in MMOs are an irritation.
I think by having a fixed age cap you miss out on the 3% of non-annoying <25s but I can well understand those policies.
Anyone reading this being excluded by policies like this, I don't know how to break it you, but you're probably really annoying to listen to.
It's not your fault. Maybe your parents did a bad job. You'll probably learn as you get older. We still don't want you on vent though

I'm 17 now, and I've played since I was 14.
I've been active in numerous corps over the years, and none of them would even guess that I'm under 18. Although I haven't revealed my age because I feel I might be age discriminated .
But so far I've had a blast playing eve , and probably will for a long time.

Because the majority of younger MMO players can be irritating at best to older players. Though there's always the rare exception.
