Edited by: Jan VanRijkdom on 13/09/2010 08:00:36 Ii just want to give a big thanks to the people behind the forums here, (mods), specifically as to how its moderated, as here people are actually allowed to have conversations that aren't edited/flagged etc whenever you might want to disagree with someone.
The TOR, (The Old Republic), forums are absurd, as unless you candycoat everything, whatever you say contrary is construed as 'rude and uninviting' 'trolling' etc. Its just stupid.
I got an infraction for jokingly asking if someone was an alt of someone else, and warnings for merely saying 'get out' and calling someone 'a little imp'.
Thank you CCP for generally allowing people to say what they mean within reason, and not overzealously modding the forums.
I don't want to go on tirades/curse people out, but its nice knowing you can have a debate and throw in a friendly jab and not get all your posts deleted.
I never knew how good I had it here....

The best infraction I ever got was 'branding all Scottish people with negative racial characteristics'. I'm bloody proud of that! 12 months tho. Ouch.
Yeah these forums are a bit more open than most but there is also a gulf of quality content here thanks to the lack of active 'minor' moderation - the stuff that falls short of thought police but is one up from the shift system CCP practises. I'm a big dan of self moderated communities anyway. There should be more ISD or volunteer people moderating here in conjunction with the in-house staff.
All that said tho, hysterical corporate boards like those you describe and, in my experience, Bethesda and pretty much all of Sega (yuck!), just produce sterile dull and uninviting places populated by sycophants and brown nosing kids.
Give me anarchy any day please!

Quote: warnings for merely saying 'get out' and calling someone 'a little imp'.
Do you talk this way in real life? You're in a discussion with someone and you tell him/her he/she's a little imp, or turn your head and tell him to get out? Of course you don't, because you would get slapped and nobody would want to talk to you, and you know this.
So why is it that when you act like a douche on a forum you are suddenly shocked and appalled when you get to told to sod off?

I tell people to get out all the time, or go home. I don't think I have ever called someone an imp though, if there was a person that fit the name well, I would use it.
Of course this is just being abrasive, or a douche as you put it, but people have come to expect it of me, and don't hate me for it, its just who I am.
So to be so narrow minded and assume everyone shares the same manners, and respect for each other as you do is a bit flawed, now get out. Hosting websites, pay in isk, cheap prices, fast service. check us out |

Get out you little imp, I bet you are the alt of someone.
Actually I'm not sure saying any of the above is really necessary, and wouldn't have minded one jot if posts were deleted because they contained the aforementioned comments.

I don't rate these forums as much as the OP does. The easy touch moderation has resulted in most threads just being a troll followed by lots of boring memes.

I agree with you about rating the forums but there is more freedom in allowing things to go 'off track' than where things get 'locked' down with rules that make people hold back on what they intend to say. It goes both ways for insults and actual critique of game play/issues etc, I'd rather have a board where people troll here and there over one where you can't speak your actual honest opinion for fear of getting banned.
Any topic worthy of being discussed can be if people are simply willing to do so instead of joining the troll train or ignoring it, that they don't is their own 'weakness' in not reclaiming the topic if it is worth being discussed. -------------------------------------------------------------- Fanboys would make great cult members. |

You mean there's a more mature forum out there where constructive and informative discussion is possible? One that isn't 90% either flames or trolls, like this one? One where the douche culture hasn't taken over? And its subject is games of some sort or other (some star wars thing?)??
I'm surprised to hear this. Especially as even places like Paradoxplaza have deteriorated over the years, I'd have guessed there wasn't any refuge of online civilization left, at least not related to games. That the snot nosed brats (of whatever age) would have taken over everything already.

Rubbish, you little imp. Get out!
Naw, srsly, there's such a thing as being drowned out, and with enough numbers making noise it always works.

I personally find the forum moderation here at eve-o fairly decent. A bit pro-USA-biased but generally fairly decent.

Why don't you head over there then if find censorship and enforced happy-happy-lala talk so great..?
To annoy you? See, I've already succumbed to the prevalent culture here. I'm not sure there is a way back. Also, it sounds Star Wars related, and I'm not playing any such game at this time.

They will probably chill out on the moderation a year or so after the game is actually released, the mods are probably n00bs at moderating. Most of the time they chill after they get used to it.

r u 4 real???!!!
Seriously though, saying 'get out' is a common forum term for non-agreement, slightly smartalec, and I've never known anyone that would be actually offended by being called 'a little imp'.
And no, I wasnt told to 'sod off', my post got deleted bc I was 'rude and univiting'. As if everyone ahd skin the thickness of paper.

Is that an attempt at being 'cute'?
Why would a thread comparing forums and me saying I like how CCP rolls be locked?
I'm not talking about anything very specific, just in general that I like our forums/forumers, especially compared to some others?
