I love Eve and I personally think Exodus is a good expansion but i can't help but notice from the stats on eve-i.com that the numbers don't look encouraging.
There was a big upward trend after Castor which gave us some momentum into Shiva / Exodus but apart from the release week 12k plus 'spike' the decline has continued back into the sub 10k per night and falling.
I'm a little worried. we're a very long way from Kali and Shiva doesn't seem to have hit the mark. Yeah, i know we are a lot healthier than 12 months ago but i would hate to see the numbers fall back toward that level. Why hasn't Shiva caught the imagination of the player base? Or is this maybe just a seasonal thing?

3/4 of my corp is gone on vacation last week or so and wont be back till after new year.
Yah thats just 1 corp but I know the holidays take a hugh toll on games. Yes alot of people are off work and can play more but even more are out of town or have other engagements.
Just a thought.

It's christmas, many people are on vacation! It's not a good time comparing how many peeps we got on the server now, to what we usually have.

Not only is it the holidays but two big name MMO's where released in the last month. I expect after people get bored with WoW* we will see the numbers rise again.
* I play it to, and it has a great quest system. But the PvP frankly sucks, and the chance for players to influence the game world is about zero. Not to mention Blizzard are worse at balancing then CCP (*cough* warriors *cough*). --------------------------------------------------

I think alot of it has to do with the Holidays, but there is also alot of bugs and lag that seems to be seriously bugging folks too.
Give it 2-3 weeks, if numbers are not going up a little by then, perhaps it would be worth looking into again at that time.
Dont take your gaming too serious ! |

While it's easy t blame the hoildays, think the word imcomplete springs to mind.
When shiva first hit you and me included first though WOW completely new game. Options on the agent side 'bonus' new ships 'bonus' POS 'bonus' woooo im loving it.
Reality digs in.... Agent missions bugged to buggery, Ships, whats the point, slight variation, majority are just pointless, what wins-wins simple as.... and POS.... well myself included how now witnessed what complete tripe they realy are, not that the 1001 forums threads didn't explain that earlier to me..... I Wanted to belive
It's a disapointment for what we were expecting for sure,,, there's massive room to expand on these ideas we all thought were going to hit us wam bam in the face from day one...
But then there's allways the next great thing....
Hold on tight. ------------------------

Maybe they realised that Exodus only added more work and little gaming?
or maybe they just had to go visit their family like me

I've always believed Eve has a standard base of 30k players. So to get 10k on at a time is okay, especially that most of us are GMT. Anything more, tbh, is just beyond the game. Unless they start offering FPS dockings on planets...

I believe that the release of newer or better mmorph's has caused many ppl to look at Shiva, turn their backs, then walk away. Even though it is the holiday season, during the holiday time is a very common traditional time frame when most ppl have extra time to play online as their classes are out of session and they are on vacation.
I know for a fact that Shiva didn't provide a substantial amount of game content that most ppl thought, but only more eye candy. For the game player who wants to go out and explore, there is vitrually nothing to explore. You can explore the dungeons, but at a frame rate of 15 FPS due to the game lag. My last day in Eve will be the 2nd week of January 2005 and I can tell you that World of Warcraft has more game content in it's new release than Eve has in all of it's expansions combined. I'm not bashing Eve-Online or CCP, just stating the plain facts. I played WoW for a week and it's content is staggering compared to Eve-Online currently.
Do a comparison by mmorphs and you see that if you play Eve for an hour and then play another mmorph like WoW for an hour... you'll find out that there is about 3000% more to do and see in other mmorphs in the same amount of time. In Eve, most of your time is wasted while jumping gates. Yeah, Shiva looks great, but it still lacks gaming content.
WoW may not provide all the eye candy that Eve does, but in game content, it conquers Eve in every aspect of the gaming experience.
I was defensive when I heard ppl talk about it cause I been playing Eve for some time and loved Eve, but after I actually played WoW for myself, I too became a believer of this fact and my gut reaction was that I wanted to pay real money for real game content and not eye candy and fluff.

I know thats the reason for many of our corp being missing.
Does present me with 1 question though, whats server lag and stability going to be like when all these people come back?

My subscription was running out on 26 Dec and I had to seriously ask myself whether, with the changes made to the game with Exodus, it was worth me re-subscribing.
Mission running was nerfed to hell, and although its improved I still hope it will be fixed to the standard it was with Castor.
Also a couple of petitions which were very costly didnt go my way.
I can see why people quit Eve. As for me, Im sticking around to see if CCP can make POS work.
