For anyone interested, whilst its far from perfect and haven't tested extensively yet, I'm finding good performance running EVE under the recently released parallels desktop for mac version 6... not sure yet but in some ways it seems better than the "native" mac EVE client, on my mbook pro (2010).

I gave Parallels 6 a try last night. And yes it does work now. Eve used to crash on Parallels 5 on load.
I'm running a bare bones winxp system for nothing but eve. if I use coherence and macview, it looks pretty nice.
You do use much more ram though, since you're also running winxp. You might run into issues if you don't have enough ram and/or you're dual boxing on a single computer.
But I encourage every eve-mac user to at least give the week trial a go and see if it works better for you. I personally will using this new parallels from now on.

FWIW this used to be a problem for me as well (instant OS kernel panic if either Parallels or the Eve Mac client was running and you started the other). Somewhere between 10.6.4 and the most recent Parallels 5 update this got fixed. I've been able to run Parallels 5 and the Mac Eve client without problems for a couple months now.

I thought about doing this, but then I realized it defeats the whole purpose of owning a Mac if i'm going to install Microsoft products on it.
The Mac client is getting better, believe it or not. I'm actually content with it besides the crashing when jumping through gates. CCP and Transgaming has recently been fixing a lot of the major issues with it. Besides, the Windows version is not any better. Believe me, i've tried it on a Windows laptop and it locked up or crashed all the time (which is why I got rid of it and primarily use a Mac).

I thought the point of using the windows client wasn't just stability, but also the over heating issues? It's neigh on impossible to run EVE on a 13" macbook due to heat, although the actual performance is more than satisfactory.

Exactly. I'm curious though whether some folks are running Linux Eve using Parallels 6 ?!

Agree with the whole "why buy a Mac" thing to a point. That's why I don't use Bootcamp. Who wants to reboot just to play a game, and then reboot to use your general stuff.
But then again, who cares? You buy a Mac because it's the best, not because you hate Microsoft (or is that just me?) I still use Windows on other machines and while it's funny not being able to use multi-touch gestures or have to update your anti-virus every week, Windows is still the most capable platform out there in terms of versatility.
Anyway.
I'm interested to use Parallels because I'm tired of the poor performance of native Mac games. That said, the increase load might compensate for the better coding and then not notice any difference anyway.. Who knows but we'll soon see. I'm on an i5 MBP btw and will post my findings. I'm still on 4GB ram though soon to upgrade to 8 but I fear this might be a bottleneck when running a virtual machine.

I don't play EVE using the Windows client mostly because I want CCP to see as many Mac usage statistics as possible. And, really, the Mac client is now usually pretty nice.
