I posted this on the General Disscussion forum in response to a thread there. Posting it here for completeness.
An extremely high speed tracking/RoF anti-missile gattling turret. This would give say a 5k km defence umberella but the balancing factor being it can only track 1 missile at a time and take 5 seconds to track next missile. So you either mount several to ensure missile protection but this would be at the expence of offencive fire power.
NB These turrets would be ineffective against ships.

if they work automaticly how will the multiple turrets know which turret is trying to blow up which missile
they would probably all try to shoot the first missile that comes within the 5km range and you'de have say 3 Gattling turrets out of action for 5 seconds with the next missile comming right in behind the first one
what kind of ammo do they use and does it matter which type with the missiles they shoot down
Torpedoes higher hitpoints, harder to kill with one turret?

I don't think it's in the realms of impossibility to make it that if one is locked on a particualr missile then subsequent turrets would not lock the same missile.

I'd suggest a single ammo type that could be fitted, small projectile lead. Far too many ammo type about atm we don't want to start adding anymore.

Speed of the missile would be the ideal factor on how hard it is to hit but I think they all travel the same speed(?). Failing that than yes, hitpoints would be good one.

Can't you just use defender missiles in an assault launcher? __________________________________

Edited by: Calsak on 10/01/2005 15:26:59 You could but Gallente for example don't have a great number of ships with missile launchers and so are missing a large area of defence.
Turrets are always on a ship and so you aren't handicapped simply because you have a ship without a launcher. Obviously you have to sacrifice a possible offensive weapon in place of great defence which I see as balanced approach.

I never sacrifice offensive power for defensive power.
There's no point. If I can kill the offender quick enough, any of the unguided types of missiles are just going to go away anyhow.
3 Large missile racks, 3 Medium Guns and a target Sensor Booster on my Rupture seem to be enough to prevent most rat attacks. __________________________________
