Perhaps it's a combination of the requirements of being a capauler and that we really aren't alone in our ships. Ok, for frigs you may be, but list everything else, it's a group with the capsuler as the lead/pilot. The corp is there as a tax haven and required so we can provide living wages for our crew. Or it could just be a mechanic of the game, deal with it and move on. |

Of course one can avoid corp taxes and other bull**** by forming its own corp. However, why should ve have a corp tag? Is there any explanation for this? we do not have to be in an alliance, so why do we have to be in a corp?
btw, playing solo has nothing do to with joining a corporation. You can play solo while youre in a corp and you can play with other people while youre not in a corp.
To expand on what I said earlier.
I would say the reason you can't be outside of a corp is because of the war-dec system as you war-dec corps and not individuals. But there's no real difference to being in a solo corp and being an individual. Other than the 11% NPC corp tax there's not much difference between being an individual and a member of an NPC corp either as you don't have to look at corp chat.
Only real difference between them, solo corp (can be war-dec'd) and the NPC corp (11% taxes). So it's just a matter of choose which one you prefer. |

Essentially it's down to how they built the game and the database around corporations. It's just like not being able to have more than1 pod pilot per ship, the database says no. Unified Church of the Unobligated - madness in the method Mamma didn't raise no victims. |

lolrp reason: the megacorporations (i.e. NPC corps) are the only entities rich enough within the empires to actually fund the procedures. Due to this, your "agreement" with the corporation that funded the procedures is that you will work for them until such time that you set out on your own (i.e. with a player corp). If you leave a player corp, you act as a freelancer for one of the NPC mega corporations (who handle the crew hiring/training/whatever for your ships).
gameplay reason:

What happened was that CCP listened to the whiny forum warriors a while back and jacked the NPC corp tax rate up to satisfy the cry of "make the NPC players join a corp!!" The idea was to make them leave the protection of NPC corps so they could be war decced. Thankfully CCP has resisted the cries of "move lvl 4's to low sec" among other similar requests. CCP needs to implement some sort of voting system available to ALL players. Something that they need to do, or they can see when they log in. These forums do not represent the entire Eve community, yet they seem to base their decisions on the raucous cries of a few individuals. And saying that the CSM represents the players is incorrect. The CSM represents the people in this forum. That's it. General discussion seems to drive the direction of the game. It has seemed this way since day one.
TL;DR - If you make enough noise in GD and go get drunk with the devs at Fanfest, you can affect the feel of the sand in the sandbox. Yes, I am an alt.

Just full of horrible.
CCP should not add a vote button; CCP should build the game in their vision, if they want player feedback they can use the tools they have available, like surveys, the forums and petitions. Too many people vote with out understanding what they are voting for and the greater impact of their vote. This is CCPs game, and it is swell of them to take our feedback into consideration, but ultimately, they need to make the decisions themselves.
Secondly, in my experience, excluding the trolls, the forum warriors are the ones that care the most about understanding the game. They are the ones that pour through pages and pages of text to better understand the mechanics of the game and intent of developers; so yes, forum warriors are not representative of the whole eve community, but they are the ones who seem to want to know how the game works and why the game works the way it does; which does give these players some valid ideas/opinions from time to time. Being in a corp is most likely so hard wired into the game that to make it any other way would be a large amount of work. Also, currently you are either war deccable (in a player corp) or paying a 11% tax. If you could somehow not be in any corp, you would be both un-deccable and not paying a tax, which would be unbalanced relative to the other players. If you could not be in a corp and be war deccable as a single player, well, thats the same as saying "make you own one man corp".
Now if your goal was to not have a "corp" chat and never see green tags of other corp members, CCP could create a non-corp corp which would have the following properties:
Anyone could "join" it, just by dropping corp and selecting "No corp" as an option Its name would be "No corp" and its tag just a dash (-) Its still an NPC corp that cannot be deced, so 11% tax it would not have a corp chat Other members would not show as green, but default as neutral
But I doubt that would do this. Their goal is to have people play together, and adding an option for them to play apart goes against that goal.
Now, there are large numbers of corps out there full of players that play mostly solo, and have no tax. Hardly any group ops, and none that are mandatory. Joining such a corp would also be an option. You can just ignore the others, have no tax, and play your way. But you might find yourself in a war from time to time. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

Why be in a corp? Because EveO is designed to either a) take your ISK, one way or another, or b) force you to bow to the inane ravings of idiot FCs and CEOs. |

When I was a new player, I too found it odd that one had to be associated with a corporation. It still doesn't make 100% sense from an RP point of view.
However it is crucial from a gameplay standpoint.
If you really want to be solo, your two options are remaining in an NPC corp or forming your own solo corp.
The benefit to the solo corp is you can set a 0% tax rate and keep everything you make. The benefit to an NPC corp is access to the NPC corp chat (actual usefulness can be debated) and immunity from war decs.

You can easily arrange for not reading the npc corp blabber and 11% tax rate really isnt that terrible. I would not advise you to create a one man corp, its basically an invitation for all the bored 0.0 alts to hunt you down.
Also, I dont see anything wrong with "soloing" MMOs. Ive been playing various MMOs for over 12 years since Ultima Online and I "soloed" most of the time. I play the games because I enjoy the game itself, the opportunity to relax from the stress and the imbeciles of the real world.
MMO people, or most of them, are awful people to spend time with. Its even more true for EVE, the griefers game. I absolutely love smashing gnomes, shooting robots and flying asymetric spaceships in deep space. What I hate is dejected nerds lurking behind every corner with their pubescent jokes, lols, general immaturity and utmost desire to hurt other people - I find it neither fun nor manly. I dont mind playing along these people (eg. market interaction or shooting them in solo PvP) as long as I dont have to chat with them or listen to their squeaky voices on comms.
Despite that, Im a very social person in real life - I spend more time drinking beer, doing sports and travelling with great people than most people I know. But thats the real people who have accomplished something meaningful and stand up to their words, not hiding behind keyboard while spitting insults. Im actually way too social, so when I come to play an MMO, its when I need some space for myself.
So, for me personally, the desire to solo MMOs is a sign of being too mature to group up with the spoiled wannabe-tough guy cyberheroes. |

Funny thread. Not one person answered the OP's question. Well, one person tried with some role-playing nonsense.
Also, NPC corp tax is an ISK sink. That was likely the reason to increase it. Tears will be shed and pants will need to be changed all round. |

NPC corps exist and tax you just as a government would in our respective nations. You don't honestly think they are going to let someone run amuck in empire space without paying a tax?
your tax goes to all the shiny lights that you see on planets throughout EVE, as well as bases you use to dock and store and sell things.
As has already been said, you can either make your own corp, and break away; or simply join another player made corp, essentially rebelling against the NPC corps that offer choices of various fields.
Medical, Media, State. Corps are necessary for folks who wish to fly around in space. The CONCORD will not allow unlicensed pilots to fly at all, but they have to allow rogue corps. They don't like it one bit, and so no solo pilots to convolute things even more.
Seriously though, in RL you said you like to try and "Solo", but look at the things we do. You are required to pay all kinds of taxes, and if you own a car, registration, etc. No matter where you live you are bound to that nationality in some way. This game reflects societies that humanity has formed for thousands of years, and takes it into the future thousands of years.
There is no free lunch, but there never has been.

Zanar Noud wrote: Why must i be in a Corp? I dont get it. Why do i have to pay tax to a corp that i dont benefit from. I dont understand why players can just be rogue and not tied to any corp if they dont want to be doesnt make sense. ok, let's try an answer:
"Why must i be in a Corp?" Maybe because EVE was designed that way from the beginning. All depencies and calculations maybe require a valid value for "corp id". Changing it could have a great impact on the code base.
"Why do i have to pay tax to a corp that i dont benefit from." You are benefiting from it: You are not being hassled with war declarations.
"I dont understand why players can just be rogue [...]" hm .. did you intended to wrote "can't" there? Otherwise the question is irritating ...
So maybe you want to be without a corporation? Just want to be alone with yourself?
Well, the best approach for it is - as described several times - to found your own Corp with only you as member. Then you are pretty isolated, on your own, without CCP needing to change the Code of EVE in many areas.
But be aware: Then you are a possible target for war declarations. That's the risk for gaining "zero taxes".
You can't satisfy everyone. That's impossible. Obviously most of us (well, i have not seen any complain about the current topic since i began reading this forum) are pretty fine with the current corp tie-ing constraint. So being *really* corp-less is an exception. - And exceptions to rules are a curse for programmers. They should be avoided. And why to mess around with base code for just a tiny fraction (again: i assume, it's a fraction) of people, if the most are satisfied with one-man/woman corps? |
