Originally by: coolzero well that was a bit over the top.
i feel very bad what has happened over there but then again i wont donate for the simple reson that even if you donate most of the time the money never ever gets where it should be at.
to many of it are spend to pay directors and managers snd logistics so in the end there is just less then a penny left to help the people.
if you look in the case of the tsunami.... that money has still not been given to the people who need it(ive seen a lot of docu's on dutch tv just about this.)
its a shame but in the world today it seems everyone is taking a piece of the money pie and leave the people in need with still nothing.
but then again if people want to donate i still solute you for doing so.
...how exactly do you think aid works? it's not "too bad about your house mate, bad luck. Here's a hundred quid as our way of showing support". If you hand people in crisis a wad of cash and tell them to put it to good use, most civilians wouldn't know what "good use" is - they'd budget part of it away on cigarettes and alcohol. That's true everywhere in the world, not just in developing nation disaster zones. Just handing them money is useless if there's no way for them to buy what they need.
so what you instead do is spend that same money on a few shipping containers full of these, and on logistics costs to get clothing, food, medicine, shelter and volunteers out to the area. Those things do more good, more cost-effectively.
You say that the money's being spent on logistics as if it's a bad thing, when 95% or more of humanitarian aid is logistics.
oh, and in case you think I'm being stingy with the hundred pounds example - bear in mind that we are talking about millions of households here, and even the most successful charity drives aren't going to pull together hundreds of millions of pounds. the actual budget per-person in a disaster area is much, MUCH lower than that. -

Edited by: Stitcher on 15/09/2010 21:51:40 I am honestly amazed, shocked and revolted at the attitudes on display in this thread. I mean come on - " Its their fault they decided to settle in geographically crappy place fully of natural disasters."? There have been people living in Pakistan (or at least the region that is nowadays known as Pakistan) since long before the UK came to be, let alone American continent nations like the USA or Canada. "It's all a pr stunt so CCP can get tax deductions" - IT'S STILL AID! It's still money going to help people. It doesn't matter whether the motive is genuine compassion or cynical profiteering, it's still money going to help people who need it!
Nobody is undeserving of being helped when they need it. These people are civilians, struck by misfortune, and some people here are actively advocating leaving them to hang because of the actions of a government they have little control over, and a terrorist organisation they are actively at war with?
my god, I WISH I could accurately convey just how repulsive I find that attitude. The English language lacks appropriately forceful terms. -

I think that if you're not, then it demonstrates that your sense of empathy and compassion is defective. -

sheesh, good job I spotted your "/sarcasm" tag there. Considering the kinds of opinions being expressed here, it's sadly not all that far-fetched. -

where do you stop.
You do realise they give to charity on a regular basis, don't you? There's the silent auctions and poker tournaments at Fanfest for Child's Play, and this isn't the first disaster relief plex drive they've run.
And just what the hell kind of a nonsensical statement is "They have no right to [give to charity]"? How about you just draw a mustache on your butt-cheeks and balance a hat on your kidneys, if you're going to talk out of your arse? -

Edited by: Stitcher on 16/09/2010 03:12:27 Although I can't personally afford to buy any Plex IRL, I do have a nicely expensive ship which I have decided to auction off as a fundraiser.
I just wish it was a bigger, rarer and more expensive ship.

Originally by: Captain Carius Doc, what you are missing are the several posts that CCP removed because they felt it was too "trollish"... this wasn't about CCP.. it was about Stiches response to me being "harsh" because I disagreed with isk donations to Pakistan, primarily because I don't pass his "collectivist" sniff check.
Sheesh, you express the opinion that people should demonstrate some freaking decency and compassion for their fellow human being, and you get branded a collectivist?
I'm no collectivist, I just believe in not being a colossal jerk.
