Never really done pvp except what IVe done in red vs blue... I have the ability to fly a curse at almost full potential... but I am looking aht the ishtar as well.. nice drone range bonuses, looks like a nice ship with a lot of versitility...
would take me about 40 days to fly the ishtar... (already have heavy assault cruiser at level 5, just need the gallente cruiser 5 skill)
are they similiar enough that it wouldnt matter and I should invest in something else skillwise like a vaga? or is the ishtar and curse that different?
Thank you!

They are very different, IMO. They don't do the same things, and I wouldn't want to say which one's "better".

Both of them are great. The curse is hands down one of the best 1on1 ships there is, if not the best. However being that good means everyone is aware it is and stays the hell away. It's not unbeatable by any means, it's just such a pain in so many ships that you need the cursepilot to make a decent mistake to win(or of land on top of him). If he gets to dictate range you're screwed.
The ishtar is a bit more stable of a ship. It can be flown in a bit more ways and is a tad more versatile. The drone bonus is of course useless for solo and mostly even for gangs, but hey... I find myself flying ishtar alot more than curse simply because you get alot more fights in it and flying it is about more than just kiting the opponent til he dies and watching out for reinforcements. Well ok, not really, that still pretty much all there is to it.
They are different, not as much in solo as in gangs. Mainly you'll die much sooner in a curse than in an ishtar, you'll also end up higher on the killmails in an ishtar with it's really high damage potential. I wouldn't train gallente cruiser 5 solely for the ishtar, if it's your first crosstrain I'd probably consider some other race, minmatar not being a bad pick. Not as much for the vaga(even if it's a nice niche you havn't really covered with amarr) but due to the scimitar, rapier, cane and loki. Parrots, commence!

How do the amarr heavy assault cruisers hold up?

Zealot is best at what it does, hands down. And it does quite a few things. Works with both pulses and beams, both armor and shield - ish.
Sacrilege is tons of fun but very niche, the drake and legion pretty much renders it useless for anything but subjective reasons. Parrots, commence!

The Curse brings a lot more to a gang than the Ishtar if the gang already has some DPS ships. ___________________

If you are seriously looking at a Curse you should check out it's little noticed brother(It is like he is invisable most of the time ).
In the Pilgram if you are flying solo and find a lone target or a couple of targets that you can beat you can uncloak and take them down.
It can host a serious 40000EHP tank and still be fit at Recon IV and has the advantage of being able to pick and choose targets as well as slip through gate camps.
Here is my future Recon IV fit while I wait the month to train V
Pilgrim
Lows 1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I Damage Control II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Adaptive Nano Plating II
Mids Y-S8 Hydrocarbon I Afterburners Stasis Webifier II Warp Scrambler II Medium Capacitor Booster I 800 Chargess Tracking Disruptor II
Highs Covert Ops Cloaking Device II 2x Medium Unstable Power Fluctuator I Small Energy Neutralizer II
Rigs Medium Trimark Armor Pump I Medium Egress Port Maximizer I
Drones 5x Hammerhead II 5x Warrior II 5x Hornet EC-300 Spare 50m2 to taste
Since you will opitmally dictate when and the range the engagement starts, you will be able to put full tackle on the target making the need for an MWD non essential and the extra speed of the afterburner will help you avoid Dmg.
It nuets 842.4 cap every 12 seconds 41000EHP and moves around 400 m/s. It has the same DPS as a Curse.

thats actually a good idea. I have recon 5. I never thought of the pilgrim. seems like a good idea... maybe Ill just stick with what I got... use sac or zealot for group work, and pilgrim for solo work.
Thank you

That looks like a really fun ship to fly. I just got the skills and isk to fly an Arbitrator in the same style as the above Pilgrim but I immediately lost it to a gate camp in my first 0.0 run.

Arbitrator is a good gang/fleet ship. What I like to do with it is burn away from the fight like a sissy while I put tracking disruptors on the enemy dps ships and have my drones either help killing primaries or send them after enemy tacklers. In this role, for it's price, it's only competition are blackbirds...and those usually live a very short life. Arbitrator can get away with what it does, most of the time, because it's effect isn't always immediate.
Solo, it's a flying coffin...unless you can find a small group of frigates dumb enough to engage it.

Cynabal burns right up to Curse and probably kills it before the curse can zero its cap, in fact.

In EFT. Ever flown a 1600mm plated Pilgrim and seen how long it takes to accelerate to 380 m/s while flying in a straight line? It reminded me of my 100MN MWD cane and how happy I was when I had managed to turn it around and dock again...
