Came across what looked like an abandoned POS in a WH last night. Wanted to take the anchored modules/defenses from around the control tower but they wouldn't unanchor. Think the Tower was offline.
Would blowing up the Control Tower have let me unanchor the modules?

Yes. Blow up the tower, and take the modules.

Thanks. With the EHP these things have that might take a while, lol, but good to know.

Take an abaddon with as many damage mods you can but keep it cap stable... Start shooting, leave for coffee or go to work for a few hours, go on a date or something.

Depending on the size of the tower, about half a dozen BS would be able to take it down in a few hours. Just be sure you have a good stock of ammo nearby, and you don't get tempted to try and AFK it.
Last tower I took out was a Caldari medium, and it took us about 3-4 hours to kill with just a Nightmare, two Ravens, and a Drake. Might have had another BS/BC but I can't recall what it was, if any.

Food for thought - very doable though. Either I've been damned lucky with my WHs so far or there are some very disorganised Corps setting up circus show POSs in WHs...

A fleet a stealth bombers would work as well.
However, one must question, how ever it's done, whether the effort, cost and risk involved is worth a few POS modules.
Just to give you a heads up, anchored modules with an offline tower requires the tower to be destroyed before the mods can be taken.
Incapacitated modules with an offline tower requires the tower to be destroyed AND the modules to have their structure/armor remote repped before they can be taken.
I can think of dozen other ways I'd rather spend my days and nights making isk.

Always check the base resists of the tower. If it is offline, no hardeners will work and the base resists will be what you are shooting. Each tower has 25% resists to one damage type, 50% to another, and 0% to the other two. I think it's obvious what you want to shoot it with.

Heh, well, there is the risk to it that you'll get poded in that time, sure... But with insurance it's not much of a loss and not really any other option to take a pos down single handedly...

Took down a small with a Cane, Drake and a Domi once. Took quite a while......

I've found them in WH space too. I did the math on what it would cost to buy all the mods or seal club the offline and take them.
It wasnt worth it. |
