Just a thought, flame if you want but I kinda like the idea.
IMHO Destroyers are a bit of a conundrum; their roles overlap (and exceed) those of AFs and I was thinking, what's a way to give Destroyers more of a niche role in frigate-sized combat? Make them snipers!
By this I mean apply their role bonuses only to long-range weapon systems (ie Artillery, Railguns and Beam Lasers) while removing the bonuses to "short-range" weapons (ACs, Blasers and Pulse Lasers). Give them longer locking ranges to help.
And presto, you've got a unique niche for them to fill; supplying medium to long-range fire support in frigate gangs, while not overshadowing AFs or being automatic win buttons against t1 frigs.
What do you think?

I think it's dumb, because you are taking away something and giving nothing in return to a ship class that is already almost useless out side of FW.
Much less is Thrashers & Coercers are likely the only cheap solo deterrents to the over powered Dramiel.

You can already snipe/alpha really nicely in any dessie aside from the catalyst so i don't see the point in the change.
And as for overlap with the role of AFs, making dessies into sniper platforms would tread on the toes of the Harpy just a bit.

How does nerfing them by removing a perfectly viable fit and adding some lock range help fix them? 
They already perform expertly as snipers with 50km being easily obtainable, which is quite a lot a for frigate guns in case you didn't know.
Damage is low'ish as it is for all snipers and can't be helped unless you want to break the game even more than it is.

Oh not anymore, with the Noctis coming out in the next expansion,it will displace many destroyers, battlecruisers, T3's, Orcas, and Maruaders in salvaging.

You mean something like a big role bonus to optimal range, and a penalty to rate of fire? I think that sounds like a great idea.

They are taking away that role with that crappy new ship they putting out next go around =(
But on the + side I think with this new salvage ship the argument to give destroyers some much needed love is stronger than ever.
