Edited by: Amy Reiko on 24/09/2010 04:53:57 What are the best pirate ships for caldari? especially for gate camps.. and occasional roams... mainly gate camps though. We target helpless missioners, explorers, and small "bounty hunter gangs" and whatnot..
i'm usually in a gang comprised of 2 BC, a HAC, and a HIC. (so a small medium ship sized gang of 4-7 pilots
Any advice is appreciated! And no, i dont want to fly minmatar/amarr

The frig-slaughtering Caracal isn't a Drake.
Other than that, a viable solution to nearly all your EVE-related problems is MOAR ECM, so you could go with a Blackbird as well.

that gate camp needs some dps, get a torp raven!
since you said the words pirate and gate camp I assumed you meant you are in lowsec and will be getting shot at by gate guns.
a falcon/rook would probably be the next best choice.

Onyx is nice with good tank and infinte point.
Rokh can be fitted with neuts or RR and tank/bait for awhile.
Scorp can do some good things, but... well... insure it

Both the Drake and Ferox can be used for camps. For larger ships, Raven with torps or Rokh with blasters will also work well.
For roaming: Merlin is a good frigate. Buffer, web scram, mwd or ab. Harpy is nice, use the standard buffer or TD Kite fits. Moa is underrated, it is a decent T1 cruiser. Caracal is a frigate murderer. Also good for taking out a target's drones. Of course, any ECM ship will also be welcomed in your gangs. Drake and Ferox, again, are both decent boats.
I have done piracy with Caldari boats almost exclusively for over a year. They work fine in gangs. Solo is a little more limited but I've been successful there, too. Fix Rockets in '08 '09 2010 2011 2012?! |

Caracal for anti-frig (make sure you run from anything else...oh wait, your only 2 lowslots are for damage mods or damage controls, not agility....oh well). Also, ummm, stay off gates with this.
Drake for killer dps inside 10km with HAMs....just hope you don't run into anything smart enough to stay at range....or so-so dps with HMLs, in which case hope things don't come close to use their higher dps on you...
Rook for jamming, warp disrupting, applying dps, etc. Just keep your eyes open as you can be killed quite easily if you don't pay attention and something warps in on top of you.

HAM or HML Drakes are great for low sec, just make sure you bring javelin ammo for the ham drake and some precision if you go for the hml drake. If you decide to take a hml drake out have fun laughing at all the vagabond pilots having to run from you as they realise they cant kite you.

How did you manage to fit a dual prop WITH web and scram? You leave your launchers in station?
And in any case, we are talking roflkets here -- unless the target is dual webbed, triple painted, and AFK they are gonna giggle like a schoolgirl thinking you are tickling them.

Assuming the OP lives as a pirate, and thus a meager income of infrequent ransoms and loot from wrecks. Nothing but a drake will suffice for general use. Replace it for a caracal when you think there might be a greedy dram pilot around. Other ships reccomended provide nothing like these two for their isk.
Rooks are fun, but you can't afford to pirate in on very long. Other caldari ships are a joke.

I bolded the part that proves you know nothing about how rockets actually work, and are just guessing off of all the bad rep rockets get on the forums. Target painters do nearly NOTHING for rockets. they have an explosion radius of 20m...... doesn't matter how much you blow up the sig radius of the ship it's not going to help unless the ship is UNDER 20m sig radius. Now the webs are true, you NEED dual webs on anything you plan to shoot with a rocket but the fact that you put the painters in there nullifies any knowledge you thought you had.

if a rocket has an explosion radius of 20m and your sig radius is 60m you won't increase damage by making your sig 100m. the factor that effects the rockets is the explosion velocity. put a 1000m sig radius on a ship doing 2.5km/s and you'll still barely hit them. but bring that sig radius down to 35m, while slowing the ship down to 70m/s and you'll do full damage - resists.
It's not rocket science, oh wait.....maybe it.... rocket.....science.....ya it is.

If you're going to go the ROFLkets route, I've had this fit laying around in case they ever fix rocket explosion velocity. I call it an Armor Plated Kestrel. It has 3369 EHP and theoretically 105 DPS with a Scrambler and a web. I used all the mids for propulsion and tackle so Armor was the only way to tank it.

Swap the MWD for an AB and this fit would have a LOT of suprise factor with the web and armor tanked. I would say AB especialy seeing the faction rockets, your range limits to HAVE to be in scram range, and a scram'd MWD is as good as an empty mid. with a low sig radius and an AB you would take minimal damage and with the web could still control range quite well. I like it, put it on BC and I'll come +1 it, haha

1 volley a kessie with nearly 4k EHP's, a non bloated signiture radius, and orbiting you on a 500m orbit at over 900m/s ? in what? a Cynabal maybe, but who ever said a T1 frig would stand a chance against a pirate cruiser? It's a throw away ship for your small operations, build 10 of them and add some respectable dps and also be extra tackle for your small gang.
As long as he is smart about transversal and doesn't fly this thing straight at you, you won't be alpha striking it in one volley, or get caught sitting still for that matter. also the web will be a nice touch for his small gang for range control and to help keep people from burning towards any snipers you may have in the gang.
I mean it's not a Drake, but honestly it could be a pretty fun ship to fly, and the losses on it wouldn't be that devestating if that is a factor in his decision.
