People have different birthdates/starter-non-player-corps/player-corps/alliances.. You already got some unique stats:
Guilliman R Gallente, Jin-Mei First registered with: Federal Navy Academy Registration Date: 22/04/2007 09:49 Current registered with: Northstar Cabal
Maybe we can get some kind of address? How does the address of the HQ of your current corp sound?

Just a matter of getting this data used in a way so we don't get mad/freak out. Especially roleplayers should like this.
That's all fine and dandy for Roleplayers. But lets say those of us with a running eve business that sent dozens of mails a day, and private transactions. It would make it an unneeded hassle to type more then just the name every single time. And if CCP would ever implement 'remember this person his details' option, I wouldn't trust their code to do so.
I wouldn't trust their code to sent the evemail/isk to the right person regardless. ------

So, none of you is in fear of the doppelganger as up until now the most cons brought up had been about how much workload (assumption: if implemented badly) and grief it would cause?

IÆm surprised by how hostile people are being to this idea. ItÆs come up in the past and people never rejected it so vehemently before.
Personally I have always hated people who are prepared to resort to any abuse of the alphabet to obtain what ever name they are set upon, and my wife is one of them.
ItÆs not like we donÆt already run the risk of eve-mailing Darth Vadar instead of Darth Vader, or Derth Veder oh what ever other variation of what ever name we are trying to contact anyway.
I for one am all for an MMO experience with shared names and individual ID numbers. Not because I cant get the name I want, I always get the name I want in games, its not something any one else ever picks. I want this because If I have to share a server with people in need of an imagination transplant I would rather their names were at least spelled right.
To error is human but to totaly fail to exterminate the enemy takes a drone. |

There's about a billion other things I'd rather see them do with their time than this nonsense.

Yeah, because CCP use character names as primary keys.

Is He not the God of Veld ? The Unholy Wrath that strikes fear into mortal miners that dare to cross his (mining) lasers ? The Keeper of the Veldnaught ? (Probably just a coincidence that he apparently resides in god-fearing Amarr space).
Meanwhile, it doesn't appear that there would be any upside to allowing name repetition. If CCP ever did allow it for some strange reason, I'd bet it wouldn't last a day. They'd be so flooded with petitions and angry player feedback that they'd have to roll it back as fast as they could.

Edited by: Steve Thomas on 26/09/2010 17:41:28 Edited by: Steve Thomas on 26/09/2010 17:40:44 some games allow you to have a "first" and "last" name now, and so long as the "full name" does not match its legal
however one game I know of had an issue with "Font Exploits" because of the I L characters and O0 character due to Il| looking the same. they switched to a new font that had 0

Example:
Let us say that I am an ultra badass killer cyborg from the future, come back in time to murder some poor innocent cute girl....
Sarah Conner???
How many Sarah Conners are in a large city???
Think of the chaos!!
Before allowing identical names, take a moment and think about the badass killer cyborgs from the future. Have a Heart!
Play nice while you butcher each other.
