Jump Bridges, the women of negotiable affection for any alliance in 0.0. Rapid transit from point A to point B. Excellent for shifting crap around.
But they're also really quite limited. You can only fit 2 per system for example, they have rather small bays for fuel, it's impossible to toll booth or bill the corp for the usage.
Allowing for more than 2 per system (linked to system upgrades) up to a max of 7 or so (2 base + lvl 5 upgrade) means you can build "Grand Central Station" in a specific system to allow rapid transit... with all the downsides attached (concentration of goodies in one system).
Fuel, I've flown up to a JB with Liquid Ozone for the transit in my cargo hold, entered the password and jumped. I was under the impression the game would take the needed amount from my sash (which if you think about it IS logical behaviour). I've also flown up to a JB that has just been topped off to 100% capacity. How do I add the LO I'm about to burn when the things already full? Changing them so that if you have the LO in the hold it'll deplete that first before using the stuff inside of it makes sense.
Tolls. Whilst 'self fuelling' JB's are nice it's often the case that people forget or are in a hurry. It should be possible to set a toll on the things so if you want to jump it'll cost x (set value of LO * LO to be consumed = toll) either drawn from the players wallets or billed to the corp that's used it.
Logs. It's always a mystery who filled the thing up... who just emptied it and proving that someone who's adamant they aren't using it and shouldn't have to be told off are in fact telling the truth. Yet the JB doesn't know itself. It should be possible to fly up to the thing and with the correct roles/password get the last 50 - 100 actions the JB performed (i.e. <player> added LO, <player> activated gate, etc). I'm sure the EVE server itself keeps track of these things internally.

Funny. I actually think jump bridges should be nerfed.

A log and corp tax sounds like a good idea.

Actually I think its one of the cooler aspects of nullsec. Player built infrastructure is win for a sandbox game imo. I'd rather focus on removing static content and expand on the player built, dynamic content.

but it sucks i can move like 45 jumps worth of distance in like 8-9 jumps due to jump bridges.
that makes moving around way too fast and risk free.

Agreed.
On the topic of having more than two, I am not sure. Having a ton of bridges everywhere would eliminate the need for gates completely. Maybe give the upgrade three levels, with one additional bridge allowed per level (so up to three in system). Of course maintenance fees would scale up as the upgrade goes up in level.
Another thing that would be sort of cool would be to have Jump Bridge Charters, which the sov owning alliance can trade to another alliance so that the other can build bridges in the first alliance's space. This would of course reduce the number of bridges allowed for the first alliance, always to three (or the level of the upgrade) per system total. This would allow friendly alliances to link their networks together. ___________ EVE is dying! Now for real! |

Except jumpbridges are easy as **** to camp and can provide a good source of ganks for a skilled gang, especially if they have the password. They also form strategic targets to disable during an invasion.
I think there should be a relatively expensive Sov 5 upgrade that allows a third bridge to be onlined in a system, so alliances can have a central 'transport hub' in their capital system. They should also fix the whole shield password thing. Having to manually enter the password every jump (even when in the same alliance) is just horrible design, and that's before the fact it encourages people to publish the shield password everywhere. Bridges should be standings-based with a log and an optional toll for use.

Disagree. Bridges are far harder to actually camp than gates, and we really don't even need any more passive defense.
I for one think bridges should be nerfed down to one per system, rather than boosted to three. They are supposed to be a strategically placed shortcut, not a 99% safe alternative to gates.

You dont know how happily i would trade in some ganks on jump bridges for making living in deep 0.0 meaning something again.
also tactical moving should mean something again. not that you tricked your enemy into believing that you attack lets say in geminate but you actually attack pure blind. atm it doesnt mean anything as 10minutes later at most ... everyone jumpbridged over to PB.
if you want a traffic hub ... then take 3 systems next to each other with 1 jb in each. (to follow up on grarr's idea.
even with lowered ranges JB are still a tactical tool as you can use them to avoid gate camps. so that part doesnt change.
