Hello there fellow pod pilots. I've decided to crosstrain from Gallente to Minmatar (thank you all who helped me out on my decision).
While i'm training the skills i'd like to hear any kind of tips you are willing to share, since flying these two races in quite different and in fact I got two specific questions (but feel free to share anything you want):
1) What kind of ammo should i use? (I'm going to fly mainly HACs and BCs) I usually use Federation/Caldari Navy Antimatter for close range and Null for a bit more range and tracking; what about minmatar? I see Hail, Barrage and Federation Navy EMP are very popular.
2) Should i stay in optimal or is it better to stay at falloff range? The falloff is quite big so it sounds resonable to use it, even though i'll miss 50% of the times i shoot. But if i stay in falloff then i will make no use of those nasty neutralizers i'm going to put on my (future) Hurricane, so again, it's a bit confusing.
Thanks in advance.

Null doesn't give more tracking, it gives worse tracking.
Hail is trash, never use it unless you are shooting armor-tanked caps or something.
On an AC boat, the ammo you should bring is: Barrage M Republic Fleet EMP M Republic Fleet Fusion M Republic Fleet Phased Plasma M
In terms of range you should stay at that depends entirely on the target you are fighting. There are so many factors to take into consideration that anyone who gives you a blanket "always fight here" rule is a complete idiot. I've posted on this so many times. :/ ___________________

Oh why so many? And why is Hail that bad? I can only see a -50% to range as negative attribute, but maybe i'm missing something (checking with EveHQ).
Oh and 0.75% on null does mean you'll track 0.75% worse?? Not better??
Anyway, thank you so much and, i'll go and check your posts :)

You can always double check using EFT.

0.75 is less than 1

Anything below 1.0 modifier is bad. It means it's multiplied by .75.
To reference: Say your tracking is .08. If you factor in the tracking multiplier of .75, your tracking goes down to .06, or 75% of your base value.

Ah right right, my bad, i stupidly tought it simply was intended to be 0.75 better. Fail.

Against Blaster boats, stay in falloff to reduce their damage as much as possible. Against smaller laser boats it's viable to sit in falloff too. Against Laser boats of a similar size, drone boats or Heavy/Cruise missile boats, get as close as you can to maximise your damage advantage. Against Torp or HAM boats keep your range at a point which allows you to track while moving as fast as possible. --

It has 1/2 tracking of Fusion, while giving miniscule damage increase. It used to be very good against armour tanks before projectile ammo buff(not because it was good itself, but due to the fact of everything else being crap for that specific task.)
As for 4 ammo types, you can drop PP and (on some ships) Barrage, but it's suboptimal payload with just Fusion/EMP in cargo.

I for one am not too keen on T2 Projectile ammo, arty or AC's.
Faction ammo is better.

Barrage is especially good at range if you fit a t.enh in your lows. Both the Vagabond and Cynabal can hit well in falloff (20-25km) whilst using Barrage whilst staying well out of web / med neut range and even other AC boats with low skills or no t.enh.
Obviously if you are fighting a slow target then you can get in closer and use some of the higher damage faction ammo. Take a look at the DPS curves in EFT though - Barrage tends to out-perform at 20km+ if you are using t.enh'ers.
