Lots of PVP online games have a dual option,,
If two people wanna fight in empire, could CCP put in a 'dual' feature? Doesnt seem like it should be too difficult.
Also stats for duels could be implemented,, ie wins losses etc shown somewhere in the bio.
Both parties have to consent to the duel, and if one of the parties wants to bail cos he is being jammed etc he can surrender which counts as a loss.
Had a few beers so i may be talking crap,, but it would make those boring empire visits more fun when u see someone annoying in local spouting about how great they are and then they hide for cover when u ask em to prove it ;)

I wouldn't mind a "duel" option but a top duellists league table would be way too easy to falsify through usage of a 2nd account.

Either of two options sucks imo.
We're not playing a middle-age fairytale dwarftossing elftoebathing dragonpoo-potionoflividfearmaking EQ clone game here.
Duels are easy to arrange. You only need to go somewhere where the cops don't show.
I'd rather keep the backstory fiction clean then implement stuff like ladders, comepetitions and duelling leagues.
Next thimg you know someone gets out the damn pokemons _______________________________________________

I don't think the eve-population would look kindly on genuine efforts to organize matches for gambling purposes. As usual, it only takes a handful to screw it up.
You need some kind of institution to put the germ of the idea in people's heads. Plus you can't have everyone and their mother owning an arena as there wouldn't be enough speculators and fighters to keep them busy during peak hours. You wouldn't want more than one arena per region or faction or so. I suppose simply making them destructible after people get used to them might do the trick. Player justice could theoretically solve the rest.. but I have little confidence of the wherewithal of human beings generally, especially children online, so I doubt it would ever get off the ground.
I think we need some large radius Concord-B-Gone Beacons with some general limitations as to where they can be deployed.
I'd like to see gambling in low sec space, but I'd like to see some kind of institution established in empire as well till people get used to the idea.

Any betting event with spectators would just be scrwed over by lag.
But the idea is nice. _______________________________________________

Not only do I like to see a peraon and fleet dueling option but I like to see an arena, like the Solaris system in Battletech.
I like to have a place where people can actually sit and enjoy watching combatants do PvP at each other. Call it entertainment. For the noobs, you can also call it educational entertainment.

I'd love it, as long as it's on another node as BKG you go ahead and get yourself an arena.
I would imagine it should be possible to set up barriers in a system (warp disruptorsand sec cans), couple it with some kinf of live fraps-feed over eve-radio (call it Eve-tv gladiators for all I care), and setup a betting office for the whole lot as well.
Cause you knwo as well as me that any attempt to do this with actual onlookers in-system would end up with a server reboot. _______________________________________________

Well, there is only one problem with the "0.0=pvp and duelling zone"...its so damn far away if you are sitting in cozy 1.0 empire, and don¦t wannan travell 20+ jumps in and later out again, just to blow away your friends frigate without intervention of the cops and standing loss.
considering that crossing a system takes about one minute (in a fast ship) and the fact that especially older players like myself are kinda lazy when it comes to boring travelling time a "duell" option would be nice. Hell, toss in an option where you can put an item or money into the duell, and you can have small nifty tournaments everywhere around.
Just make it so that if someone accepts a duell, neither of both can warp away and join a gang/can be convoed or something.
Patience wins. |
