To be able to play a starter level ship able to cloak would let new players get into the stealth / covert play from the beginning. current stealth ships / skill requirements and cost too high for a starter player to get into the playstyle.

What exactly do you want to do in a cloaked ship as a new player?

Edit: Misread. No, there really isn't a need for these. Cloakies should be a relatively minor part of the game. _________________________________

The most dangerous cloaking/stealth tactic there is very simple and qutie newbie friendly.
Find an 0.0 system packed with reds/neutrals, safespot, cloak and go AFK. *** Currently Playing: Trolls from Outer Space Current Equipment: VISAcard chain mail, +2 Amulet of Epic Whine, Self Banstick +2 WTB: +666 E-peen killboard stats |

From character creation, without maxed learning or even using implants it takes less than 23 hours and 3.6m isk in skill books to be able to fly a cloaking ship.
Lets add in at least an mwd to allow the cloak warp trick to provide safety in hostile space and also some low level exploration skills and the basic core competency skills and you now have about 5 days skilling at a cost of 6m isk in total to have a probing, cloaking ship that you can take anywhere in eve.
If you think noobs should be able to get into covert-ops ships from the start then that's just stupid.

Yeah, I think CCP reduced the requirements when Dominion came in. It doesn't take as much to get into a cloaky as it used to (skill-wise at least). Cost isn't that bad either.
Unless this is another "I don't want to train the skills but still want to use the goodies" thread.

Pilgrim says hi, assuming you're VERY patient. It's a very deadly ship in 1v1 engagements. Drone-ships and passive tanks being the exceptions.
Does that mean it's a solo pwnmobile? No. Hardly. But if you're patient and pick targets carefully, you can do a lot of ganking with it. Especially on ratters. :) ------ "Tell a man there are 300 billion stars in the universe and he'll believe you. Tell him a bench has wet paint on it and he'll have to touch to be sure." |

Yea, just encourage him to be a prick
I hate this - either show yourself or get the hell out of my system / log off. I want to semi afk rat in peace. Cloaky ships are good-for-nothing but transporting valuable stuff. Yea yea, ive heard those "im a ganky stealth bomber" stuff. Please oh please someone finally attack my 80k ehp warrior drone drake so that I see that uber-frigate-pwnmobile. My sig is 500m so no need to pack a TP either...
Stealth ships have their use - that is - scouting and hauling + maybe suprise small gang attacks. Apart from that they suck badly because they have like half tank and gank due to limited everything else but cloak. All they can do solo in roams is to annoy when left AFK.

Oh dear... where to start with this...
1. Cloaky ships are far from useless and have their purpose... that purpose not including direct combat the way your Drake was made for.
2. If you're not scared of them why not just ignore them, undock, and go about your business as usual?
3. It's not YOUR system... it's the alliance's. And if the alliance can't secure its borders then that just means you have to "pick up the slack" and be more vigilant.
4. Why should YOU be able to AFK (semi or completely) and THEY can't do the same?
Getting back on topic... OP, I suggest you play around with normal T1 ships before you gun for cloaky ships... they are "specialist" ships and require healthy amounts of support skills, player skill, and an understanding of game mechanics. _______________________

afraid of an AFK cloaker? heck, why the hell do you have alliance mates? to look pretty?
Well - not actually afraid, but i sure do hate them while theres a good movie on telly - because I actually have to pay attention. Nothing special but my selfindulgance and hedonism Im a different kind of prick you know.
And teaching newbs to annoy by sitting AFK in cloaked rookie ship isnt really commendable. There should be some method to expose cloaked ships. Let it have 10 minutes scan duration or something, just to stop cloaked AFKing.

Stealth Bombers are serioulsy nice ships... They do have a lot of impact when you know they're around. Going afk on purpose just to harass people is a cheesy tactic. Using them for combat however is awesome fun and they shouldn't be too hard to get started with if you have a clue. -

yeah, and to be able to play a starter level ship able to use a jump drive and fighter bombers would let new players experience a mothership from the beginning. Doesnt mean its a good idea though.
Its not actually that difficult to get into a stealth bomber/cov ops frigate. You cant have everything right away, just keep training.

Hmm, I guess I'm just a nice guy. I'm interested in stealthy ships but not to get an advantage over others and gank. I see them as pathfinders, scouts, and gateways for invading fleets. I love being the cavalry scout out front, encounters begin with you!

Would you rather teach them to hold hands and station hug until you have enough numbers to undock? I mean, I don't see much difference in fear here.
