I just got my third storyline mission. The first two were for a corp I was not trying to raise faction with. Other players have made the same complaint.
As I did this mission, I was just doing it to clear it, and wondered which corp would suddenly appear in my faction list now.
Imagine my surprise when I docked to report mission completed and saw I was in a station belonging to the corp I was working for. I looked at my faction list and had received a nice faction boost for my preferred corp. Very nice CCP. I am now looking forward to my next storyline mission and hope getting faction for my desired corp was not just a fluke.
By the way, even though the only response I got from the agent was "Go away, I am busy" he still paid me, plus the cash time bonus, and gave the faction boost. I do not mind being called a CareBear :) |

Storyline missions give boosts to faction standing - ie standing with Caldari, Gallente etc. as appropriate. Each mission you do improves your standing with the agent and the agent's corp.

Heh, I understand that concept, but as I and others have discovered, they did not realy affect standing with the corp we were working for.
As an example, I just wanted better faction with Amarr Construction, so they would take less minerals when I refine at one of their stations. The storyline mission gave me a little faction with the Amarr race, and a lot of faction with 'Ministry of Assessment' but NO faction with Amarr Construction (even though they are of the Amarr race), so they still took the same amount of minerals. But this last storyline mission I did was much better. It was actualy for a 'special' agent of Amarr Construction, giving me a nice boost in faction with Amarr Construction, which is the only reason I am doing missions, not to build faction with Ministry of Assessment or Garoun Investment Bank.
Hope that makes sense to you. I do not mind being called a CareBear :) |

You wanted better standing not faction, faction refers to one of the races or npc organizations. Amarr Construction is a Corporation within the Amarr race or faction, you wanted better standing with the corp.
If you look in the Standings portion of your character's info in game, under Liked By and Disliked By you will see a section labeled Faction, which lists your standings with various factions including Amarr in this case, and a section labeled Corporations which lists your standings with various corps including Amarr Construction and Ministry of Assessment.
It was mixed up words that prompted the reply by Allon and myself, but it is good to hear that storyline missions may have been improved. Hopefully this will continue and won't just be a fluke where you got lucky.

They do raise (or lower) standing with the storyline agents corp!

Doh! Thanks for pointing that out to me, Kuggington. You are correct, I am after standing, not too concerned at this moment about faction. Now that I am aware of the difference perhaps any future post I make on the subject will be more clear.
Now I guess I need to kill my sig so it does not look like a comment. I do not mind being called a CareBear :) |

Storyline missions haven't "gotten better", you've just "gotten lucky".
I've never had a storyline mission from the corporation that I'm working for since this was implimented, and I've done at least a dozen in the past 2-3 weeks. Nothing has been changed as far as I can see, though a few things are sorely in need of change... ---------------

I;m with Feyd on this one, I did my last storyline mission two days ago and it was yet again for a random corp i didn't care fore. However, the faction boost it gave me was larger than the boosts from previous storyline missions. Perhaps because this one was tougher as well, in stead of having to kill 3 frigates and 1 elite mercenary dude i got 3 of the elite frigs, one merc commander and a wingman that scrambles you. Was quite tough for my char & ship. Perhaps they upped difficulty by somehow "detecting" that I had been recently doing well on many lvl 3 regular missions ?

Edited by: Kayinan Malrean on 02/01/2005 22:47:55 Nope. Still bad. Beyond bad.
Last "story" mission I had was just a regular mission, just 8 jumps away and with a whoppin' bonus reward of Data Sheets. No sign of any "stories", no sign of any gratification.

Edited by: Larno on 03/01/2005 10:37:02 Okay, I decided to write up all the info on my important missions... I was doing missions for Transtellar Shipping only. Here are my important missions:
# - Corporation @ (Date/Time) / Faction Standing Increase / Corp Standing Increase
1st - Roden Shipyards @ (2003.12.30 01:31) / 2.5586% / 10.2346% 2nd - Quafe Company @ (2004.12.30 22:07) / 2.5288% / 6.322% 3rd - The Scope @ (2004.12.31 21:24) / 2.5154% / 12.5771% 4th - Transtellar Shipping @ (2005.01.01 22:04) / 2.4888% / 6.2221% 5th - Quafe Company @ (2005.01.02 16:39) / 2.4436% / 6.109% 6th - Transtellar Shipping @ (2005.01.02 21:49) / 2.4436% / 6.109%
All of these were the mission 'Mercanary Assasination'.

IMO They have gotten much worse: They take much longer than previously, and usually entail far to much travel and all for the same rewards as before and in a lot of cases they are bugged at the moment. I think on average an important mission now will take with travel and mission time an hour plus for what used to take 10-25 minutes tops. Quite a large income drop. And I have not heard of implants being offered as rewards for important missions anymore, I may be wrong here and if so let me know . On that note, all combat missions have taken a huge pay cut as there are so many deadspace missions now that again offer the same rewards as before for 2-4 times as much work.

Edited by: Diederick on 03/01/2005 11:52:34 I did over 250 (!!!) missions for this particular lvl-3 agent, but did not get a single storyline mission! Is this a bug, or is it an intended part of the game? (Like: some agents never give storylinemissions). Since Shiva I did -loads- of missions here and there, but never got storlinemissions and thus my faction-standings are frozen since then.

Yup. Yet another "story"line mission which is a basic kill mission with a whopping 90k isk reward and a bonus of one Station Vault. For a company I've never worked for.
Actually, I don't mind it being a different company so much. Opens some doors to new companies to run missions for without clearing a few lvl1-2 missions first. I just wish there's be some actual rewards or, the "story".
