This is a simple yes or no question. Here is the situation. You are the CEO of a big wormhole corp living in a c6. There are only a few other WH corps that can rival your corp. Your corp is extremely wealthy and has made an unbelievable amount of isk in the last 8 months compared to the other WH corps your size.
Heres the question if you knew there was going to be a point were no one in your corp could be online for 1-3 weeks to defend your WH home system would you hire mercs to attack all your rivals to put them into a defensive position so they couldnt attack your home while your corp is unable to log in? Again isk isnt a problem at all.

I would have a well trusted Merc Corp defend the POS. One that has a reputation for being honest!
Talk to Noir they seem to be the gold standard though I do hear Hydra is back!

learn to frikken type...
to the OP: yeah.. if money is not a problem... you can pay mercs to keep the enemy busy (be sure to do a background check on the mercs before you give em the job). there are merc crops/alliances who do their job very well.

Thanks for alerting us to the fact that you'll be vulnerable for some time, AHARM.
This will be dealt with.

Mercs are notoriously lazy and unreliable. So, I'd either move the expensive stuff excluding scanning alt(s) out of the hole leaving the POS on it's own or take down the POS completely. I mean, if you're that concerned with it that's what I'd do. I would in no way rely on Mercs. Still use the mercs for option #1 if you want but realize their resolve is not your own. Therefore they are unreliable. And if they know you're going to be offline then, well, as a merc, why not sit back and take a vacation while you do as well?

It would be a safer bet to liquidate your assets and rebuild from scratch than to trust defense to a third party for isk. IMHO.

He who burns his buttocks shall sit on them?
And I wouldn't trust mercs just like that. If you have had contact before, maybe. So out of the blue, don't think so.

It isn't really a yes or no question because you've not really detailed the relations between your rivals and your own corporation. If you want to live relatively peacefully in the wormhole in future, attacking all your rivals is probably not the way to go, as it will only lead to counterattacks from those of them that you don't completely destroy in future. If anything, hire mercs to defend your own POS rather than attack others.

A large, unusually successful wormhole corporation going missing en masse shortly after the discovery of an exploit they're widely suspected to have abused?
The answer is "no." Mercenaries aren't going to accept ISK that might vanish from their wallets at any moment due to the fact that said ISK was gained through exploits.
Of course, even if they do accept the ISK, and even if your W-space "home" is still intact when you return, you will in all likelihood be destroyed by pilots who are angry that you weren't rightfully banned for cheating.

Edited by: Aerilis on 28/09/2010 12:44:14 I don't quite agree with the many "I don't trust mercs" sentiments here. If you hire a random corp to protect you then yeah, they probably aren't very reliable, but many merc outfits are very reputable and very good at what they do. I'm sure you can arrange some kind of contract like "Here's the intel, do whatever you need to do to keep our WH intact, if you succeed in protecting our WH until this date, you will receive (massive sum of isk)".

A reputation that will be tarnished if the general public discovers that said mercenaries are defending a bunch of cheaters, mind you.

If I had to do it I think I would just hire Mercs to guard my WH or at least my pos rather than go on the offense.

Asked an aharm guy I know about this, he responded with this
Originally by: Aharm Contact Lol, I thought it was pretty obvious that AppleBanana was an R&K alt. I guess they think it will increase ops participation if people think we are temp banned?
The isk thing was a tactic used to incite nerd rage in the unwashed masses. Dreads are the main source of dps in wormholes regardless of bonus or "exploits" or whatever. If there was any real issue, it was using it in pvp but its not very bannable when ccp told us twice that it was fine and the opposing side was using another tactic that had been declared an exploit at one time as well.
I doubt you'll see much aharm response on the boards tho as they were told to stop posting as the trolling was pretty ridiculous.

Edited by: seany1212 on 28/09/2010 19:33:20 Agreed that this isnt an AHARM alt, if anyone cared to check aharm have been working recently with Noir. on the CCRES removal so why are they then going to ask whether they should hire mercs to look after their system? clearly OP failed to notice this
edit: fail grammar You guys make squeeky noises when you pop, and that's enough motivation as far as I'm concerned. |

it could possibly be another group of wh exploiters, people who were doing it, just were lucky enough to not get named on the forums for it.
Or, his corp mightve just wanted to go to their annual alliance bbq?
