Oke folks here is my idea for a new ORE ship t3.
Calling it a Strategic Mining Vessel or SMV
The idea is pretty simple,
A kind of exhumer that has the same princible as the strategic cruisers. only it's sub systems affect mining yields / range / number of stripminers that can be used / defense / cargo space
This way you could make it so it has a 20% bonus to yield on 3 stripminers or be able to use 4 stripminers where the first option might include better defense and the second more cargo space. then include a setup where you can have 5 mining drones and 5 combat drones out at the same time.
it's just a idea i wanna throw out there. and if you like it please respond with what you would think would be good things for the subsystems that would leave it a bit better then the hulk but still balanced to the game
if this idea was put forward by someone else already then i here by apologise it is not my intention to steal an idea just to get this idea across with ccp

I like the idea about it, but i think it should only give like 15% more, because 20 is very much! , I think CCP should make it.

Or they could just put in NPC buy orders for minerals and fix the completely broken mining profession. When you say "fanboi" try to picture a fat man doing burlesque with 2 big ass fans that say CCP on one and HTFU on the other. Because that dude is me. |

Minerals are already oversupplied, if we get a ship that can mine faster than a hulk the only effect will be to depress the value of minerals further.
What might be interesting is for CCP to reduce the volume of ore available in normal asteroid belts and buff grav sites a bit. This would decrease mineral supply, thus raising the value of minerals and increasing the potential isk/hr. It could also be done in a way that makes macro mining more difficult due to the exploration involved.
Should CCP do this a T3 ore ship could be a combined exploration and mining vessel, subsystems that altered the sensor strength could make you harder to probe down and the interdiction nullifier could be used in 0.0.
It would be nice to see more people mining outside of the usual carebear havens in high and null sec, wormholes are a good example of how mining can be a mix of industry, pvp and pve. If CCP were to move towards the WH method of mining there would be a place for a T3 ore ship. _______

This would cause ore/minerals to enter the market faster, making the decrease in prices quicker.
So... Sure! Cheaper stuff for me.
Also, the t3 ship design was based on a modular ship (ie, subsystems) that can be used for a variety of purposes. tbh, we don't need another t3 ship.

how about a module to add to the t3's we already have that allows it to fit strip miners but removes almost all of its tank? I feel that the cost of using such a ship should be that it is some what easy to kill/gank.

I believe there is a great value to advancing the ore/ice trade. CCP saw it fit to increase mission drop retention with the new Primae based salvage ship. More meta3 and under modules getting reprocessed means less ore value.
So what are we really looking at--making macro mining not worthwhile. How do you do that? Well one posts said make the belts less populated and increase what you need to scan down. To do that by design stops macro miners, but then what about us who like to mine a build stuff--lvl 4 missions currently are more profitable.
An answer is a t3 ship able to be set up for mining ore or ice, with the ability to incorporate ore compression possibly for deep deployment, and the ability to scan down mining sites with the onboard scanner depending on the setup. Such a ship would be the miner's choice and being interactive to get to the "belts" would not be the macro miner's choice.
The other side of the ore values--with how many ships we blow up in the belts and missions and how many modules they drop are we to believe these faction corps never buy off the market? To add some spice we should see the serpentis, angel, guristas etc out there mining a belt and be able to gank them. Heck we should be able to sell the a hulk. Add in that aspect to the game--a realistic supply and demand and the ore values will come right back.
So there we go I can see it already--belt rat in a retriever mining my veldspar--launch drones, wow he dropped t2 strip miners! Put 'em on the market and whoa serpentis corp bought strip miners 2's off me.
A t3 mining vessel would be a great addition to the fleet--ore value is the fault of ccp not creating a realiztic market--just ask yourself the next time you do an Extravaganza--how much ore would I need to build all of those ships and fit them--there the market hole, not the mining vessel.

Edited by: Edge Horseman on 30/09/2010 19:06:11 Agree that the Hulk is enough i am new here but i can already see that more minerals on the market are a bad idea...
Perhaps your idea would work if the hulk was deleted and this new ship only had bonuses in 0.0

i was thinking something along the same lines actually
it'd be nice to have a mining vessel that can fit 5 strip miners, have decent cargo, and have a bit of a tank. who cares how fast it is lol

I'm all for a T3 mining subsystem, as long as it gives a bonus to Modulated Deep Core Miner IIs (the Miner IIs that can use crystals), and NOT strip miners. Also, only if it mines less than a Hulk.

love the idea, although I would add a subsystem that deals with low end ores, mid end ores, high end ores, Mex, ice and gas etc so u can mine certain grades much faster then u play with number strips vs cargo space etc.
However: 1) CCP show no love for miners. So I doubt T3 industrials will preceede other T3 combat ships.
2) The biggest problem with T3 and extra modified cargo space or mining rate is that it will be exploited by macro miners. And that is why it probably won't work.
I'm sorry, coz I like your idea and I really think CCP needs to devote a lot more time to mining to make it a worthwhile profession. Let's be fair as things go mining is a boring profession and as things stand they pay worse than anything that requires that sort of time.

Agree with the statement: Mine less than a Hulk.
Hulk is the top miner - t3 shouldnt be better, it should be more versatile - t3 combat ship doesn't have the best tank or the best DPS, that goes for the BSs.
So t3 mining ship = best cruiser class miner (bested by mack and hulk), and frankly this could be concieved by adding a single sub or two to existing t3s. Mining bonus, 6? miners with bonus to yield and cargo capacity. Won't mine better than dedicated miners, but will be able to do exploration mining, wh mining (while mounting a massive tank and a few drones perhaps). That way it should be balanced, sacrifice some mining yield for more mobility/survivability.

Give the orca the ability to fit strip miners, unbonused it will mine less than a hulk, but it will be a different experience.

It shouldn't mine more then a Hulk - Hulk has to stay king of the hill m¦ wise.
But more agility, warpspeed, overall speed and some defenseability would help with this. How about a 5th Subsystem for T3 Cruisers: Weaponsub with 3 strippoints, miningyieldbonus and rangebonus (5% per level) - abilitiy to fit ice and stripminer. +6000m3 -50% agility -25% speed (will need some tweaking).
Finaly the +CPU subsystem makes sense for proteus!

I don't get the point here sorry, like I understand your idea. But I don't get the why it is necessary.
Why would you want to mine if it's not better than the Exhumer line for their intended purposes? And the Skiff is a great ninja miner of (at the moment) one of the best ores to ninja mine IF that's the whole purpose for this new ship. But ninja mining is stupid and slow regardless.
But my point being, unless you have a station, POS, Rorqual and/or Orca, what the hell is the point of even mining? The T3 ship could in no logical way serve a USEFUL and DISTINCT purpose from the Exhumer line without people going "lulwut?".
At least I know I'll stick with my much higher yield Hulk and zap away at monobistot while permatanking 0.0 belt spawns, if the T3 can't do that as well then I'm not interested and why they would add something to outclass an already great T2 ship design, I don't know.
Also this idea has been suggested many many times.
The only new industrial ships we need is: - Exhumer class ship for Gas harvesting (SERIOUSLY WTF MY MOA IS GETTING TIRED). Hopefully something effective with some defensive attributes for W-space?

As an idea it's been suggested a lot. But I don't think a t3 industrial should be about bigger mining yields as much as it should be about more versatility such as being able to scan out grav sites and mine or being able to be configured full on exploration rather than mining, or even to be able to sacrifice some mining ability or cargohold for an interdiction nullifier. In fact for general high sec belt mining I don't think it should really provide any advantage over the hulk.
This thread has some good ideas: Tech 3 Industrial Cruiser thread

I hear a lot of concern over ore value and the downward pressure that increased yields have on it, which in turn equates to isk yield per hour, which is a key to being successful in EVE.
Simple breakdown: More ore = lower value do to law of supply and demand.
So lets look at supply and demand.
Missioners get a lot of supply--meta 3 and under modules that are turned into minerals, but where does this supply come from? Note: an endless supply that the missions generate.
So supply is unlimited, but no change in demand. So have we broken the equation is supply and demand with mining or missioning. Seems to me to be missioning.
Some may argue that the croporations you mission against are self sufficient. If that is true then where are the missions that are designed to stop their supplies? Where are their belts where we can kill their retrievers, hulks etc. Further why dont we see belt rats salvaging ships as well. These inconsistencies are what cause the market imbalances, not mining.
The supply and demand equation is broken. Instead of argueing agaisnt mining yield increases we should focus on market balances that fit game mechanics. If you run missions and destroy a lot of ships, there should be a % draw or demand imposed on the market.
These truths have been shown over and again in war time. Even the Beijing Olympics caused a bump in building material prices. The point--if you blow something up it didn't just show up, it must have been sourced--i.e. base materials--in this case eve's base materials are ore and PI materials.
So let focus on what ships ships would be a good addition to EVE and get CCP to integrate more accurate market dynamics!
