Edited by: BLUEVER on 04/10/2010 04:42:43 Once upon a time, I found myself bored in Arnon. I am not sure if in New Eden there exists a place where the noob juice boils over so consistently. It is often one of the brightest spots on the "ships destroyed in the last 24 hours" filter in the in-game map. As I query it now, 260 ships have been destroyed in the last day. At first glance one might think it to be a high-sec Amamake or Tama. Or perhaps, without knowing it was highsec, some epic clash of nullsec powerblocks had recently occurred. Unfortunately, or hilariously, most of these loses are dual tanked catalysts with a random assortment of guns, that somehow got overrun by some rogue drones in a mission.
Being a typical eve douche bag I am endless entertained by the fits noobs come up with. So I decided to fit up a respectable T1 frigate with the intent of making Arnon a little brighter on the in-game map. I dropped a can or two outside the main station, hoping a shiny meta-3 module would entice one of the many poor noobs. After spending a few minutes outside station, the heroes of Arnon started spamming local chat not to take from any cans outside station. Bummer. So I proceed from belt to belt looking for jetcan miners to can flip. On this particular night, only a few mining destroyers and a token hulk where out. And of course the hulk was hauling his ore to station after each run. However I do notice a couple other frigates warping from belt to belt. Some are rating the high-bounty frigate npcs that frequent the Arnon belts, while it appears others are doing the same thing I am.
So, time for a new plan. I conveniently find a retriever for sale in system, along with the necessary modules to make it pass as an 'armor tanked, pvp' ship. And, of course, one strip miner to complete the bait. I warp to the top belt and start jet-can mining. After about 15 minutes and just before I clawed my own eyes out, a daredevil appeared in belt. Now, this isn't exactly the ship I had in mind fighting with my pvp retriever. While the daredevil approaches my can, I ponder my chances. I knew my warrior II's hadn't eaten in about a day. But I also knew daredevil's can approach 400dps. In the end I knew the likelihood of getting a chance like this again was fairly low and prepared for battle.
The daredevil pilot promptly flipped my can and went red. I launched my warrior drones and ordered them to attack. The pirate faction ship started taking huge chunks out of my shield, while my warriors went to work. The urge to point him was immense, but I resisted in order to confirm to the daredevil pilot that I was a silly mining character possessive of my ore. As we both approached half armor, I'm guessing the other pilot began having second thoughts. I know he did when he hit low armor before I did. I image panic set in when I pointed him. He quickly activated his propulsion module, and ran from this retriever as quickly as his ships navigation systems would allow. My warrior's had him in half structure when he was about 15km away.
I assumed he was going to get away as there was no tech two warp disruptor for sale in Arnon at the time I was fitting this ship. However, he failed to align to a celestial and instead just burned straight out, which sealed his fate. As he was out of my warp disruption range his ship began to turn in the direction he ordered it to warp to. My hungry drones, seeing blood, moved in for one last shot. That shot overwhelmed his ships structural integrity and his pod was launched into space. I'm not sure where his pod warped off too as I slow-boated to his wreck, but I'm guessing it wasn't to fetch another daredevil.
