Fortunately, Ridley Scott is now directing an adaptation of it
He'd better make a bloody good job of it, but I'm inclined to think he will. It's probably one of the only films I've been excited to get released and to watch in a cinema.
The TV adaptations of a couple of Pratchetts books have been really well done.
Alot of the stuff I'd like to see has already been mentioned. Nights Dawn would make an amazing TV series if done right, and only ran for the length of the books.
The Dosadi Experiment by Frank Herbert and Asimovs Foundation Arc would make good watching I think. Costume designers would have a fit over Asimovs descriptions though.
I'd like to see a good remake of Dune (and the whole Arc written by Frank), cell shaded animation a la Samurai Jack would be perfect, but I'll be in a grave before it happens.
Considering he gave us Blade Runner and Alien, and that he's wanted to produce The Forever War since before he picked up the Alien script, I'm also inclined to believe that it will be awesome
Night's Dawn would be a great serial, as would Foundation. The Void saga, also by Hamilton, might be good. I'd love to see all of Dune properly adapted, too but that's probably not going to happen since a lot of it doesn't make sense until you've read the books a few times. -----

Id like to see them do 'Hitchhikers Guide - The Restaurant at the End of the Universe; book next but i want to see them all done eventually.
Necromancer i believe it was, i think it was part of a series of books under the Wamphyri heading - Brian Lumley apparently.
Id like to see a lot more of Arthur C Clarks ideas get put to film - before they all come true lmao.

It's only been done about 5 times, what makes you think they'll get it right the 6th?
Sixth time's the charm? I'll never give up hope.
The one with Vincent Price was pretty good, though. Not too shabby and fairly close to the original. It just needs an update now.

Damn you all - No matter how much I read the 'books worth reading' list only ever gets longer and you're not helping!
If this was the future with proper virtual reality filming I'd say The Algebraist by Ian M Banks. One of the most epic books I've ever read, unfortunately it would take a week long uber 3d immersive film to do it any justice.
With today's tech I'd go for A Big Boy Did It And Ran Away by Christopher Brookmire - A hilarious yet so horribly true to life novel about an FPS computer gamer who ends up in a terrorist shoot out in a hydro electric power station. All those ladders and tunnels, this time the frags are for real _______

If PJ has to do it again, its going to be all out, But i hope he dosnt, If some one could write him a small cheap bloody c grade slasher comedy like "brain dead" or meet the feebles, that would be awesome.
I liked the interpretation of colour of magic, but it doesn't quite get all the way into it. Ventari didn't quite meet up with my interpretation.
SO maybe Gaurds Guards Guards, Sam's one of my fav chars, but who ever played nobby could be type cast for life...
IIRC, Peter Jackson is currently working on the hobbit ----------

Awesome books.
I came across a copy of 'The Rats' on VHS when I was perusing a charity shop for some fancy dress items. Regretting not picking it up.

Antares Trilogy (Antares Dawn, Passage and Victory).
Quaint by todays standards but it has a timeless appeal similar to the Foundation series. Supernova, isolation, adventure/discovery, war with alien ... its all there.
I read the first book a long long long time ago and sort of lost track of it till now.
/me go hunting for Passage & Victory pdfs

Not a movie and not just one book but...Sci Fi channel needs to make a Battletech series in the same vain as Battlestar Galatica but maybe slightly darker.
First 2.5 seasons are pre-clan invasion...establishing the politics...following certain merc groups Next 2.5 seasons are clan invasion.
It would actually be better if HBO or Showtime did it now that i think about it, but i don't either would be interested. pity that.

I see it more as several 2 hours episodes for TV same concept as what they did with the horatio hornblower or the sharpes sharpshooters books
preferably done in this format http://www.ultramarinesthemovie.com/
That would've been goddamn awesome.
Personally I'd like to see the short-story 'The Fall Of Malvolion' by Dan Abnett made into a film. That would've been awesome. http://www.nautilus-solar.net/SandyGunfox/books/zz.Warhammer/Abnett,%20Dan%20-%20Warhammer%20-%20The%20Fall%20of%20Malvolion.pdf can be read here.

The Tommyknockers by Stephen King. The made for TV version was utterly horrendous.
Plus if I may, I'd like to suggest a game. Half-Life from start to finish. That is when they get up off their proverbial asses and make Episode 3 and Half-Life 3.
Many Kind regards and wishes for the future.

Valve themselves have stated a few times in recent months that they'd like to make a Half Life movie. Might have even ditched plans for an Episode 3 and started work on it.

Really? A typewriter being taken over by an alien entity who use it to type out their own given by others but not own name over and over, that's not spooky to you? Surely you jest.
The Halflife movie won't happen, scripts sucked hard, I'd give it a Bolls chance in hell of happening.

Transmetropolitan - Vertigo/Warren Ellis, given the same treatment as Watchmen was.
The Dark Tower - Steven King: which I gather is currently being done as a trilogy linked up with some smaller episodes. I have no idea if it will work in this format but I'm willing to give it a go.

I love most of the books posted here, but Night's Dawn trilogy/Reality Dysfunction I really disliked. Probably because I loved the universe he created but hated the story itself. Protagonist fail upon fail upon fail finally ending with a Deus ex machina.

It's been done twice.
And the BBC did it in 1954 as well (starring Peter Cushing as Winston!)
I was about to suggest that it was time for a new film version of Brave New World, but then I noticed that it's already being worked on, and is due out next year.
