I'm looking for stories of scams that never should have worked. Scams that were either so badly put together that you a blind man could have seen though or so outragious that no person could possibly be that stupid to fall for it, but somehow they worked. As is traditional, I'll start with one right here. I once scammed a guy in to hitting a lowsec tower for me. I'm not sure what actually started the conversation with this guy, but he had been recently scammed by someone else and I advised him that I could help him and well, relieved him of some more isk. He was furious and sent in all the usual threats about taking me down and the like. Being in a flippant mood I told him I was the alt of the CEO of some lowsec pirate corp in the area and he shouldn't threaten me like that or I would send my corp after him. This is where it got interesting. He sent me a mail back telling me his main was an FC for a 0.0 alliance and I had made a huge mistake by telling him who my main was and that he was now going to lead his alliance in to crushing me and my corp. I sent some random smack back at him and told him he wasn't FC of anything and I didn't believe a word he said, I even told him the location of a 'few of our towers' (I happened to know the pirate corp I claimed to be the CEO of). Next morning the first of the towers on the list was in re-enforced.. Apparently he had been telling the truth. I told him AFTER they popped the tower that I had scammed him again. I just wish that I had actually had a target for him to go after and not just some random corps tower. Support giving carebears new toys

I convo the guy and tell him, that if he buys plex i will buy them off him and "help him" get back into the positive. So he comes back the next day and convos me telling me he bought some plexes. I talk him into jetting the plexes in space, so i can loot it, and sell it, and transfer him the isk. We do one at a time, for 4 of them, than he says he trusts me and jets out 5 plexes, which i take and never pay him for :) CE "Please post in English to ensure effective moderation." -CCP Mitnal

I was about to block the guy when I noticed he was also in the scammer channel. I switched to the scammer channel and told the guy to stfu in local because he wasn't going to accomplish anything except **** people off. To my surprise he responded right away, and asked me if I could show him a better scam. I'm always willing to help a noob ~~give me all their isk~~, so I half jokingly told him to dock at my station and I'd show him a trade window scam. From there I convo'd him, told him the best way to teach him was to walk him through it, and I had a t2 frigate I could lend him for demonstration purposes. He actually agreed and flew to my station. At this point I was expecting him to realize it was a joke and we'd exchange some smack and lol about it, but so far he hadn't so I pressed on. He popped open a trade window right away so I decided to take a slightly more aggressive stance. I told him I was glad to help him, and I wouldn't even notice the loss of an Ishkur with all my billions, but with both of us being scammers and such it'd be just plain stupid of me to lend the thing to him with no collateral. By now everyone reading this probably knows where this is going, however the guy who wanted a scam lesson still hadn't figured it out. He threw in 15m. I threw in a renamed Incursus. We both clicked accept. It took him about 5 minutes to realize what had just happened. The guy got a pretty good firsthand lesson in scamming imho, which is exactly what he was asking for. I don't know if it still counts as a scam with that in mind, but it was still pretty funny and left me with an I-don't-belive-this-just-happened kind of feeling. - - - Dian'h Might - C&Ps resident "internet kleptomaniac"

(or am I thinking of someone else) It was a different person than the one in that story, but yeah, I once got a guy 3-4 times in a row with the trade window scam (one ship at a time). I used to keep detailed notes on everyone that I'd scammed, but it's a major pain to find them anymore after the address book changes (tbh that's why I don't play much anymore). I know there was someone else who said they found some Russian guy that wanted to buy plex. The scammer said he had loads and got the russian to start accepting freeforms as fast as he could create them (RIP freeform nerf ). Didn't have any rigging skills so he used to trade people the ships and rigs and pay them to rig the ship. Got 3 megas and a bunch or trimarks and nanobot accelerators out of him..
