I'm looking to sart making some passive isk for my master.
I am a fully focused Tengu Pilot with the appropriate R+D skills. Plus my two sisters on seperate accounts are ready to start collecting some datacores.
I currently have no affiliation to any corporation/faction so standings will be strating from scratch. I know which corporation I would like to run with and have worked out which agents I will eventually use for research.
My question is "How long will it take me to get the standings required to run LvL4 R+D agents?"
I understand that different agents and corps will affect this but a ball park figure would be great.
Thankyou in advance.

Edited by: Prophanitis Decadence on 06/10/2010 01:46:08 It can probably be done in less then a week assuming you can fly an Assault Ship (great for breezing thru lvl 1-2 missions)and time on your hands as for actual game play figures id guesstimate 72 hrs with good ships, though good social skills reduce that dramatically.Connections helps the most to reduce the lvl 1-3 trash farming.
Yeah, I know. I'm guilty. I understand that. I knew it was a crime, and I did it anyways. ****, why argue? I'm a ****ing criminal, look at me.

I'd say about a week if the corp you are looking to run for has storyline agents and isn't spread out all over the galaxy.
A good example of quick standings gain would be Core Complexion. CC has loads of offices all over empire, and once you can use a L3 agent, Elgoi has 2 L3's (-13 and +16 if I remember), with a L4 next door in Eram (but not a pure combat L4), and all of your storylines come from Aldagolf which is also next door to Elgoi and has an L3 agent as well.
I hit 7.0 corp standing within about 5 days of grinding a few hours each night. Once I hit those level 3's though, only took a day to get there from where I was (3-ish, minimum required to use L3 -13).
Only problem with CC isn't lack of L4 R&D agents to use, but the L4 R&D's in highsec are actually quite decent but round trip from Haatamo to Itamo to Rainelles to Iderion is something like 70 jumps (starting from my HQ which is in Minmatar space). Total drag so I only do it maybe once per month.

My suggestion,
level Social V and Connections IV (or higher), then run all the Caldari COSMOS missions and you'll have the standings required for level 4 research agents (in Caldari space). I know this works with Caldari and it should also work the same with Amar etc. Cosmos missions.

No, the other Cosmos missions don't give that possibility.
For example a lot of the "Gallente" cosmos missions are given out by non-Gallente agents.
From what I recall the only standing you get with a R&D corp is through a 3 or 4 episodes storyline with Roden Shipyards.
With the Intaki storyline (from the old flying license set of missions, no idea if it is still working) you would instead get some standing with Creodron from Avrez Arue (spelling?), but again the missions will bring you halfway to level 3 with Creodron, nothing that you can't get running regular missions with the right agents.

The idea is that you get your faction standing up, so then you only need a 4.65 corp standing iirc.

If you want to make serious amount of cores you need good quality agents and those are quite rare to be in the same corp. So you might want to check how many good lvl4 agents the corp has, otherwise you need to get standing for another corp too. I'm currently having five agents (i think) and four of them are good lvl4 agents, but one is a good lvl3 agent because....there weren't any lvl4 agents left! (duvolle labs). They are also quite spread out.
Basically the time it takes to grind is similar to normal agents. Just use a assault frigate for lvl 1-2, then something bigger.
Also check what type of cores you want (check market), because some have a better price than others (but also need more rp-points).

I recently did this - according to my journal it took me 82 missions to get from almost no standing to the requirements for the highest R&D agent for Roden. Time-wise it was about three weeks of VERY casual mission running.
In the beginning I fleeted up with my main who was running L3 combat missions while I did a few low level courier jobs, sharing the rewards of course. Once I got access to those L3 missions I accepted the mission and completed them with my main, then NOT sharing the rewards.
For other corporations it might take longer as the combat missions yield a higher standing gain than courier or industry missions - and they are often faster, especially if you use an oversized ship (T3 in this case). Roden also has the advantage of having their own storyline agent in the same station as the L3 agent, thus you get storylines for Roden as well.

This is exactly what i did, in a faction cruiser or T3 you can blitz L3's very very fast often having enough tank to just tank the whole room while completing the mission specific goal.
Note: if you want to grind for boundless creation there is a cosmos agent who gives 25% standing increase.

Duvolle Labs agents are mostly Production, which means a large number of courier missions in a hauler. Many of them can be done in a Blockade runner - fit agility rigs and cargo expanders, you'll get through at-keyboard hauling missions faster. It took me about a month per character to grind the respective standings, given that my main started off with 6+ standings with Gallente so I already had access to the better L4 mission agents.
Core Complexion has a couple of combat agents, so you'll be able to blast through to level 4 R&D agents in a couple of weeks.
Carthum Conglomerate have Manufacturing agents, so you'll have a variety of hauling, mining and combat missions. Grinding standings with Carthum will take about three weeks if you apply yourself. Asrios + Shemah is a great place to start - Asrios has the mission agents, Shemah has the storyline agent (and a good quality L3 agent in the same station).
Ishukone has a great mission hub in Penirgman. Again, allow a couple of weeks.

A buddy of mine and I are setting up for R&D agents now, hell, it's taking longer to train the science kills than it is to get the standings. The 1st thing we did was work on faction standings (epic arc missions 1st, we already had high minmatar and gallente standings), then minmatar/gallente cosmos (avoiding the non-gallente/minnie cosmos agents in their space of course) and finally some minor lvl 3 or 4 blitz grinding with several R&D corps.
That has taken a week or so, the only reasons we are still doing this stuff is because we gotta wait to get the research project management skill up as well as repeating the process for alts.

I'd consider working for Carthum Conglomerate in Amarr space instead. I've got all the top caldari R&D agents on another char. And they are mostly all in lo sec. Whereas, all the top 5 Amarr agents this guy is using are all in hi sec.

Thank you for all the great replies.
One more question, the two alts will be solely trained for RnD they will be in fleet with me while I run missions to gain standing. Would make any difference if I set up a corp only for the three toons? would this help or hinder in anyway the speed of standings gain?

It's your personal standing what matters. Corp standings do not count.
Another tip. as soon you're alt's can get the missions with l3 agents themselves. Get the mission with them and don't share rewards so you get the full standing increase with your alt. Social 5 helps.
