[Warning: Whine followed by a question, followed by more whine]
My carebear lost 2 tengus in a row to suicide gank recently. Being tengus, they got volleyed. Sounds unremarkable, except they're t2 fitted. Ganker sat offstation not at undock but along route from gate, catching ppl warping into station, that end up idling for a second before disappearing into the station. Apparently they jumped the gun without looking through contents, not that they had much time to.
Question regarding current state of suicide gank: Do gankers those days usually check contents or gank blind?
If the new norm is blind gank this could be a major annoyance. The ship itself cost quite a bit even if the fit doesn't, and subsystem sp loss from the first gank haven't even finished training back up before the 2nd happened. More expensive ships becoming off limits?
As a side note, it doesn't appear to be some kind of targeted griefing. My carebear blends into the crowd, no one knows its relations other than maybe gms checking ip. Quick check reveals both gankers are genuine carebears in apparently unrelated carebear corps, with a single gank loss followed by a series of gank kills on kb at regular intervals and nothing else. They're all api verified, so they apparently uploaded mails themselves? I've heard of ppl smartening up after getting ganked and start doing it themselves after realizing how lucrative it is. Since sec boost comes easy for them, and insured t1 bs incur no real cost, maybe they can afford the sec loss of casual gank without checking contents? I've been thinking of highsec ganking as natural part of game mechanics, but this one is really coming apart here. In the olden days you're not a target if you're not carrying valuables.
There have been more smack in local recently, not between ganker and ganked, but between different group of gankers fighting over spots. Maybe they're breeding while I'm not looking or something...

Smartbombs have never discriminated: they kill everything in range. Where's someone who has the links to those old Concord-tanking videos when I need them? -- This signature is red. |

Not too bad of a sec loss, not too hard to pop, a nice kill mail with a high amount of isk destroyed in any case and a good chance on phat lootz! Confirming that suiciding Tengii is fotm. Pro gankers would have scouted you beforehand though, to see if your fit is up to their "isk/sec loss" ratio.

Haven't noticed any disco gank recently, artillery seems to be preferred for obvious reasons. I'm more interested in answer to the question. Figured ppl in c&p would be "in the know" when it comes to those things.
Edit: just saw 2nd reply. So I guess blind gank is up?

Can't tell you what is "standard" but it seems logical. Ganking Tengus is the popular rage after some high profile, well publicized hits. More gankers, more competition for targets, more incentive to pull the trigger quickly before someone else can.

happened to me too.
now i make sure to turn on my hardeners at every gate, no matter if the mission is in that system or not.
i'm also trying to fit the adaptive shielding sub or the supplemental screening sub instead of amplification node wherever possible in order to further discourage the ganking. For me, i really don't see a much more satisfying activity (disclaimer: while carebearing) than watching a failed suicide gank against me.

Seems like an easy way to raise one's killboard effectiveness (aka killmail whoring).
Especially since Concord doesn't post their killmails.
So the Killboard shows them killing a tengu, but even though they lose whatever they were flying, it was insured, and the loss never shows on a killboard.
They have to hope that you (and your drones) don't get a shot off, though.

Well, i was actually interested in this topic as I was thinking about doing some suicide ganking myself with my main.
But unless you are really loaded with isk and want to pop **** for fun, you usually scan with an alt and pop with your dps on another account.
But since tengus dont need 10 bs's to gank like some officer fit marauders, the total value of mods that would be worth ganking for would be considerably lower than the value for mods on marauders.

No Frageman, you lose a level of one of your T3 skills when you get destroyed in the ship. It's a separate mechanic from the clone and can't be avoided other than by ejecting.

Not true. Mostu and Dodi are just the 2 biggest cesspools. Irjune, Hent, Peni, Osh, Lustre, Emo, and basically all of the dozen systems with used lvl4 agents are camped. Crosscheck dotlan/kb for those systems, and you'll see. "Used" as in used by people, due to being positive quality lvl4 combat agents that don't regularly send carebears to lowsec. There are only a dozen of them in existence in all of eve.

Bolded the bits that you missed.. Yes there are quite a few lvl4 agents, but many of them will send you off in to lowsec for ****s and giggles. Try doing a lvl4 in lowsec boarder system and see how that turned out for you.
