spaceship sci-fi covers alot of thing. for example, star trek and gundam are very different shows, but they are both sci-fi that involve spaceships. you should watch a few clips and see what type you would like. star trek TOS- which is the wild west in space. they use floppy disks and bulky communicators, but that was the **** and top level sci-fi tech back when it was created. star trek TNG- the huge city-ship like flagship of the federation, has lots of science, politics, danger, and pew pew. star trek voyager- interesting story, a small, but fast and advanced starship gets lost in the delta quadrant and has 70 year journey back home, one ship all alone in a strange part of space. star gate- humans find a technology that allows them to explore the galaxy though they are still not advanced. gundam- which is anime, but it has giant fighting robots on spaceships blowing up space colonies with mega-lasers. battlestar galactica- which is about a rag-tag fleet of humans who are trying to find their way home after a genocide on the humans homeworld by a race of evil robots.
those are all the ones i can think of.

Edited by: Master Rook on 06/10/2010 23:08:30 Cowboy Bebop! It's anime, but it is *great* (and I'm not a fan of anime). Cowboy Bebop is the best science fiction to hit TV since the original Star Trek, IMHO.
It breaks my heart to learn that the live action movie of CB is apparently dead. Hollywood has money for junk like the Transformers, but when it comes to solid noir sci-fi, suddenly price becomes an issue. -----------------------------------------------

Sorry, wha? The cancellation of the Cowboy Bebop Live action, if true, is the best thing that could have happened to it. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Edited by: Master Rook on 07/10/2010 00:11:58 Edited by: Master Rook on 07/10/2010 00:11:05 I understand your cynicism. I was optimistic. The original anime team was closely involved with the project and the initial script clocked in at an astounding $500 mil. I think you could get a good movie out of that. But then the cost-cutting re-writes started happening and, apparently, this script vs. budget disagreement is what has stopped the process...seemingly for good. Apparently the anime team stuck to their guns over the need for a good script and didn't just sell out. Good for them! No more Starship Bloopers! -----------------------------------------------

Edited by: Culmen on 07/10/2010 00:45:35 Anime wise
The show Planetes is perhaps the hardest sci-fi I've seen in any medium. It's about cleaning up space debris, and it's alot more interesting then it sounds.
Also Battlestar Galactica was awesome up until they finished the whole underground resistance arc, then it got emo and annoying, then briefly awesome again, before they ran out of ideas, started pulling stuff out of their asses in a vain attempt to resolve anything, then ended, the ending wasnt too bad, maybe some might say it was a good finale, but not awesome. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

I don't know if it is any good, but it was on late nights on local CBS affiliate: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starhunter
Doctor Who had quiet a bit happening on and in star ships.
As far as anime, there is Outlaw Star, Glass Fleet, Last Exile.

Calling Last Exile a "space ship" anime is kinda stretching it.
Since 99% of the show is atmosphere, heck the fighter thingy is open ****pit and they open the windows on the flying ships. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Babylon 5 Still has my "love 4-ever" card and will most likely never have to turn it in again. I remember a show that aired on BBC, of which i only saw 1 or 2 episodes, last year. It's about people finding a "singing" fractal (i think it was called) on earth and dicover that there are more signals like it throughout the galaxy. They set out on a course to find them all. There was one person on board who pretended to be sensitive to the signal of the fractal (you apparantly had to be a chosen one to be able to see it) and see it while she could not. Anyone with the name will be thanked many times. I'd like to see more than i did ___________

@ Freyya are you thinking of 'Defying Gravity' by any chance? What you're talking about reminds me of that show.
@ OP, I recommend Andromeda

I tried to watch Andromeda a few times. It's still the worst scifi I've ever seen.

It's certainly one of those shows that gets better as it goes a long. May be worth trying the 4th and 5th season. They were the best in my opinion :-)

Hmm nope, no mention of the "fractal" found on earth. Seems comparitive but very different none the less. Anyone else has an idea perhaps?
Andromeda is mehh mehh. Terrible at start, mediocre at best during the last seasons. The only real reason i watched it was because of falc...errr Alexandra Doig. ___________

More anime if you don't mind it.
Crest of the stars (season 1) & Banner of the stars (s 2-3). Basically space elves go to fight with the rest of the humanity. Sweet space fights concentrating on frigates and cruisers in eve terms, especially in season 2.
Spaceship operators. A high-tech ship's student crew hijacks the ship to liberate their homeworld, then sells the rights to the battles to a TV station to fund the war. The most realistic spaceship combat I've seen with emphasis on strategizing in 1v1 battles.
Macross (and it's sequels). Fighter-to-mech transforming space combat. Quality varies throughout the series. Do not watch Macross 7. The first one is a classic. Also the source for some of the mechwarrior battlemechs.

I know a lot of people don't like Starship troopers, but if you've never checked out the CGI series,it's worth a watch imho. Roughnecks: Starship troopers Chronicles
Starts on pluto, makes it's way to the bug homeworld, and ends on Earth. It stays truer to the book than the movie did, though it's nowhere near a true adaption.
