Ive visited a number of ice ore fields and there is only ever 1 type of ice ore in the entire field. A suggestion might be to mix up the different types of ice ore and distribute it in a similar way to standard ore - have several varieties of ice ore in each field.

I've seen some weird ice formations in deep 0.0 space while hunting, and I mean GIANT BLACK SLABS of ice.... like 2 or 3 times the size of an Apoc...
oh and they were mixed ice fields, come to think of it, the stuff I was looking at was the rarest in the EvE galaxy

in 0.2 space, many ice fields have two types of ores... i forget the two types. clear and something else.
I roleplay... there is this computer game called "Earth - The First Genesis" where i play a character in the early 21st century. |

Ice fields differ depending on where you find them.
In high sec space there only seem to be one type of ice in each field, oddly enough it is closely related to the control tower that is favored by the government in the area.
Once you get to lower sec space there will be 2 types of ice, still related to the controltowers.
I havent bothered checking ice fields far out into 0.0 but I suspect you will find more types out there.
As for large black slabs of Ice... you can fint that in minmatar low sec space I think... and I have seen slabs alot larger than BS's.

It's like this to give a "regional" feel to the ore distribution, in the same way that not all ores are available everywhere. I'd pod my own grandmother to have omber or _any_ isogen bearing roids in the area which i operate. --- "Due to the European lard shortage, we are currently unable to supply this product." |

Well, the "regional feel" is not good. Since CPU is always the limiting factor when setting up a starbase, the regional distribution of ice makes it a lot harder to set up a Starbase in certain regions of space. The areas with caldari or gallente ice are much more suitable for industrial starbases. Time to change the CPU and grid requirements on the starbase structures so amarr and minmatar towers can compete.
Have a look at the main starbase structures and their requirements, with the exception of the guns CPU is the limiting factor. It makes no RP sense to have a refinery, which melts ore down to minerals, use mainly CPU. This needs a serious look at by CCP and a balancing.
